The Application Process While all students admitted to High Point University are considered for merit scholarships based on academic credentials, there are specific steps that must be taken to be considered for need-based assistance. Steps include: ■ Receive admission to High Point University. ■ Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa as soon as possible beginning December 2023. Please remember that you must include our school code (002933) in the release section in order for the Student Financial Planning Office to receive your results. Due to limitations on funding, please file your FAFSA as soon as possible each year before February 1st. ■ The filing of the FAFSA is an electronic process and requires a FSA ID to both log in and sign the official document. Both the student and the parent will need to obtain FSA IDs by going to studentaid.gov/fsa-id/sign-in/landing. ■ HPU must have your Social Security number on file to be able to receive your FAFSA for processing. If you did not include this number in your admissions application, please reach out to your Admissions Counselor to add your SSN to your account.
How Financial Aid Packages Are Calculated If you apply for financial aid consideration and qualify, your aid package at High Point University will be calculated on the basis of eligibility and academic credentials. Eligibility is the difference between the cost to attend and level of financial need based on calculated Student Aid Index (SAI) from the FAFSA. Your family’s contribution is based on factors such as family size, parental income and assets, and student income and assets. The results of your FAFSA should be received by the Student Financial Planning Office within ten business days from the date of filing. If there are any outstanding requirements, students will be notified via mail and email. Once any issues are resolved and all merit decisions have been made by the Office of Admissions, then your Student Financial Planning Counselor will proceed with assembling your financial aid package. Financial aid offers will be emailed directly to the student and will include any merit scholarships, need-based grants, federal loans, work study awards and state programs for North Carolina students. Availability of funds at the time the completed file is reviewed will impact the total aid offered. It is important to file early to avoid funds being depleted.

Types of Financial Assistance Available Below are brief descriptions of aid programs that may be available to attend High Point University. These programs are divided into two general categories: gift aid and self-help. Gift aid comes in the form of scholarships or grants for which no repayment is required. Self-help programs come in the form of loans or work programs. Loans enter their grace period or repayment as applicable after graduation or the termination of your studies. Work programs provide students with the opportunity to obtain an on-campus job to assist with educational costs.
Academic Scholarships Every student who applies and is accepted for admission will be considered for academic or merit-based scholarships. These scholarships are generally renewable annually provided the student maintains a designated minimum cumulative grade point average. Incoming students with extraordinary aptitude and academic achievement may also be invited to attend a Presidential Scholarship Weekend or an Innovation Summit where they may increase their academic scholarship. Students will receive an invitation to attend only one of these scholar events and must RSVP to confirm their attendance. Academic scholarships are intended for the use of students attending High Point University. Financial aid eligibility, gender, race and religion are not factors in the selection process for academic scholarships; however, to be considered for a Presidential Level scholarship, you must submit your application for admission to High Point University and your high school transcript by the early application deadline, November 15, 2023, for priority consideration and by February 1, 2024, for general consideration. For the 2024 year, High Point University will not require standardized test scores for Presidential Scholarship consideration. If students choose to share them, we will consider them as a part of scholarship packaging. Additional scholarship details can be found on page 13 of this brochure.
Institutional Need-Based Grants High Point University offers need-based grants based on eligibility produced from filing the FAFSA, the student’s academic profile and the amount of other institutional, federal, state or outside scholarships and grants awarded to students. Funds are limited, so it is important to file as early as possible.
Federal Grants Federal grants include the Pell Grant, ’23-’24 figures ranged from $1,045 to $7,395 per year for full time students and the Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG), which ranges from $500 to $1,000 per year. Both of these federal grant programs are based on need and the results from filing the FAFSA.
State Grants North Carolina students who file the FAFSA will be considered for the NC Need Based Scholarship (NCNBS). For ’23-’24, figures ranged from $3,000 to $8,240 per year for full time students. For this year, students were required to have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) produced from filing the FAFSA of $16,000 or less and an annual family income below $155,000 to be eligible. To receive state funding, students are required to verify North Carolina residency with the state online at www.ncresidency.org within 45 days of the start of the academic term.

Student Loans The U.S. Federal Government offers two versions of the Federal Direct Loan. The Direct Subsidized Loan is need-based with the interest being paid by the government while the principal is deferred as long as the student is enrolled at least part-time. The Direct Unsubsidized Loan is not based on need and while the principal is also deferred, interest starts accruing once the loan disburses to the student’s account. Repayment on these two programs begins six months after graduation or when the student drops below parttime. The student has up to ten years to repay these loans. The current interest rate on both the Direct Subsidized and the Direct Unsubsidized loans is 5.5%. There is also a loan fee that comes off the top of each loan disbursed, the rate was 1.057% for loans disbursed before 10/1/2024. Both interest rates and loan fees are subject to change annually. Parent Loan Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) are loans for credit-worthy parents that do not have a financial need requirement. The amount that parents may borrow is based on the cost of education minus any other aid that a student may be receiving; therefore, parents may use this loan program to fund the full cost of education unmet by other financial aid programs. PLUS loans carry a current interest rate of 8.05%. There is also a loan fee that comes off the top of each loan disbursed, the rate was 4.228% for loans disbursed before 10/1/2024. Work Programs HPU offers thousands of students the opportunity to take part in the Student Employment Program (SEP). The SEP is an experiential learning program designed to develop our students for their future professional endeavors. All job opportunities within the program are strictly on-campus positions. Students can work a maximum of 20 hours per week, and each position held is considered a paid position. Federal Work-Study provides opportunities for students who qualify for financial aid and must earn a portion of their educational expenses. The program is a need-based program and funding is very limited. Priority is given to students who qualify for the Federal Pell Grant program. The Federal Work-Study award is set by the Office of Student Financial Planning. The opportunity to apply to on-campus positions is available for all students regardless of a Federal Work Study award. Student employment is considered part-time/temporary university employment, therefore it is important to note that any student who is considering working on campus must complete required federal and state tax forms prior to working. Students participating in the SEP must complete the Form I-9. The Form I-9 requires all employees regardless of status to present authentic, original, unexpired documents proving identity and employment authorization. Office of Student Accounts The Office of Student Financial Planning works closely with our Office of Student Accounts to ensure all necessary aid our students are packaged with is reflected properly. The following items available through our Student Accounts Office will further assist our students and their families to manage their financial account.
Student Accounts Center Once students are assigned an HPU username and password, they can access the Student Account Center via their my.highpoint.edu page. Once logged in, students are able to view account activity, print statements, enroll in a payment plan, select a refund option and authorize users to also access their account information on the Student Account Center.
Payment Options Statements are available online through the Student Account Center and mailed home to all enrolled students approximately a month before the semester due dates each semester. Payment deadlines for 2024-2025 are: ■ ■
June 30, 2024 for the fall 2024 Semester December 9, 2024 for the spring 2025 Semester
Students have the choice of paying the entire balance by the semester due date in person, by mail or online. Or, students can choose to enroll in a monthly payment plan available through the Student Accounts Center portal. This option requires a $55 enrollment fee each semester and allows for payment in four or five monthly installments for each semester.
The Cost to Attend The cost to attend a college is the amount your family will pay after all financial aid and scholarships have been applied to our overall price. The amount of financial aid you might qualify for depends on many factors. Some factors for aid eligibility include academic achievement and results from the filing of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In addition, the amount you receive from one school could vary significantly from another school based on selectivity, the availability of funds and the applicant pool. Every institution has its own way of calculating aid, which means your bottom line will vary depending on which school you attend. It is also important for you to remember that while financial aid can be a critical factor in deciding which school to attend, it is only one of many factors that should be considered in selecting the right educational environment that will best prepare you for success in a very competitive market place. Student Health Insurance All HPU full-time undergraduate students are required to have health insurance coverage and are charged automatically for the university’s sponsored insurance. Students that have a comparable health coverage plan MUST complete the required insurance waiver online each year in order to remove coverage and charges from their student account by the start of the fall semester. Students that wish to purchase the HPU coverage should log in and ACCEPT the insurance in order to begin enrollment in the policy. A link to opt in to or waive the health insurance will be available on the Student Accounts homepage.
Tuition Protection Plan Tuition Protection can help protect your substantial investment in your education should you be unable to complete the term due to a documented medical reason. The Tuition Protection Plan dramatically enhances the university refund schedule and provides more generous refunds throughout the entire term. All HPU undergraduate students are automatically enrolled and are charged for the plan. Students MUST complete the waiver online if they do not want this insurance in order to remove coverage and charges from their student account by the end of August. Subject to the program terms and conditions, if a student withdraws from classes or takes a leave of absence because of a personal injury, sickness or mental health condition, this Plan will return up to 75% of their insured term tuition and fees.* *Term tuition and fees does not include optional programs or course fees. ■ Due to limitations on funding, please file your FAFSA as soon as possible beginning December 2023, but before February 1st at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa. FAFSAs received after February 1st will be processed and funds will be packaged based on availability.
■ Many financial aid programs are renewable annually based on academic achievement or participation in a scholarship area. Renewal for need-based aid is not automatic, and amounts can vary with each year’s eligibility based on the updated FAFSA filing and available funding.

■ Students who secure private, outside scholarships after the packaging of financial aid from High Point University will be reevaluated to determine if eligibility still exists for any need-based aid previously packaged.

■ The total of grant and scholarship funds from all sources (institutional, state, federal and outside/private) may not exceed the total of direct education costs (i.e., tuition & fees and room & board for residential students; or tuition & fees for off-campus students) plus books and supplies.
■ Financial aid offered by or administered through High Point University will be credited to your account, half in the fall term and half in the spring term. The only exception is the student work programs, for which you receive payment for actual hours worked each pay period.

Honors Scholar Program $3,000 awarded annually Students in the Honors Scholar Program receive a $3,000 scholarship in addition to any High Point University scholarship. The award is automatically renewable for all four years as long as students remain in good standing in the Honors Scholars Program. Students can apply for these opportunities by logging into their PantherPage at www.highpoint.edu/pantherpage.
International Scholarships International students with a 3.0 unweighted or higher GPA (when converted to a 4.0 American scale) will qualify for a minimum of $5,000 per year in merit scholarship (up to $20,000 over four years). Students who submit SAT or ACT scores may be considered for higher awards.
Diversity Scholarships* For seven incoming students each year, High Point University offers our Diversity Opportunity Scholarship. These awards provide full-tuition, fees, and a book allowance to allow students to enroll at the university regardless of background.
Bonner Leader* $10,000 over four years The High Point University Bonner Leader Program seeks to transform the lives of students as well as their campuses, local communities, and nation by providing access to education and opportunities to serve. * HPU applicants are able to apply to both the Diversity Scholarship and the Bonner Leader program through a single application found on their PantherPage at www.highpoint.edu/pantherpage.
Fellows Scholarships $3,000 awarded annually Each student who is accepted and who chooses to enroll into any Fellows program is awarded an additional $3,000 per year merit scholarship. Students can apply for these opportunities by logging into their PantherPage at www.highpoint.edu/ pantherpage.
Business Fellows For students majoring in accounting, business administration, entrepreneurship, finance, international business, marketing or sales.
Communication Fellows For students majoring in event management, game and interactive media design, journalism, media production, sport communication or strategic communication.
Creative Arts Fellowship For students majoring in art, creative writing, dance, fashion merchandising, graphic design, interior design, music or theater.
Education Fellows For students who declare a major or licensure area in the Stout School of Education and have a passion for education.
Health Science Fellowship For students majoring in exercise science or health and wellness seeking an opportunity to participate in a progressive, four-year program within the field of exercise science and human movement that will develop their academic, professional and personal skill sets.
Natural Sciences Fellows For students majoring in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, neuroscience or physics.

Scout Awards
$1,000 awarded annually Awarded to entering students who have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Scouts BSA or earned their Gold Award in the Girl Scouts of the USA. Email documentation of your achievement to finplan@highpoint.edu.
ROTC Scholarships
The U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force award three or four-year ROTC scholarships, which covers up to the cost of tuition and fees.
ROTC Housing Scholarships
ROTC Cadets that receive a full tuition and fees scholarship through the ROTC program may be eligible for this scholarship, which will provide additional funding up to the cost of Tier 1 housing and meal plan minus all other gift aid the student receives for the Fall and/or Spring term(s). To be eligible for this scholarship a student must have a completed FAFSA. Email finplan@highpoint.edu to request the scholarship application.

Strickland Women’s L.I.F.T. Fellowship Leading and Inspiring Female Trailblazers
$20,000 over 4 years These awards require an interview, and students should contact the Marching Band for additional information. High Point Marching Panther Scholars are required to attend Band Camp over the summer.
The L.I.F.T. program provides networking, leadership development, mentorship and coaching for female students interested in becoming CEOs, leaders, entrepreneurs, executives and trailblazers in their chosen careers.
