Open sewerage has been unresolved for weeks Rivier Street in Lydenburg has been a river of sewerage for a long time and residents have to access their homes from a side street. One of the complaints is that the municipality left it open - the stench and health risk are severe and it remains unresolved.

Maar volgens hul direkteur, me.

Arrogance of leadership Pompie Joel Ledwaba from Lydenburg writes: We are today living in a complex country in which anarchy is the order of the day. The dangerous narrative that public representatives are in position of power to serve and enrich the ANC political leadership is evil and we must fight this dangerous narrative to the bitter end. Of paramount importance to this level of mediocrity is the electorate themselves voting with their stomach and not with their God given senses. Yes, of course, the corrupt and arrogant leadership of modern day South Africa has viciously instilled an element of fear and the fear of the unknown in the mind set of our people. A fear to be unemployed for the rest of your lives, a fear to be kidnapped and killed and the fear to be completely locked out of the main stream economy. The current minister of South African police infamously dubbed the killings of whistle blowers and corruption busters as "January killings" and killings that are largely unresolved. That is a spirit instilled in our people to paralyze them to the core while corruption,

Hulle brand my. Betrokke by alles. Sulke mense is

fraud and wrong administration without shame are the order of the day. A practical example is your ever champion of Mecca of fraud and corruption: Thaba Chweu Municipality. Our municipality is notoriously known for being a cash-cow (ATM) for ANC criminals. My brothers and sisters, Eecclesiasts chapter 3 verse 1. There is time for everything and seasons for every activity under the sun. It is within this very light that the Mashishing Civic Coalition undertook a trip to Park Town (JHB) for the community. We visited the head office of the esteemed Zondo Commission, which is investigating the state capture. We are excitingly happy and confident that the commission has written to answer 182 questions of the dirty demon of fraud, corruption and hidden forensic report since 2008, this article has made "Headlines" in news papers called City Press and Sowetan. The Mashishing Civic Coalition, under my leadership, and hugely supported by our caring white community will continue to fight for social justice for all. Mashishing Civic Coalition, which is a non violent but a parliament of the people of Thaba-Chweu, will continue to expose the brutality of DD Mabuza the current evil deputy president of South Africa, and on a serious note this man is extremely evil. Look up the article “Al Capones of Mpumalanga by Hon, Dr David Dube” on the internet. In closing, we shall redeem our province and our municipality from evil and corrupt politicians and administrators. Remember, the word impossible is only found in the dictionary of fools.

Dit hou my kop besig. My stokperdjie hou my doenig as ek bietjie meer tyd het. So, ons beur voort.

Beautiful photos THE Longtom Photographic Club members entered beautiful photos for the November 19 meeting. In the Set Subject section Des Jacobs was the winner with his photo. In the open section Des Jacobs was again the winner with his beautiful photo ‘fly me to the moon’. In the monochrome (Black & White) section the winner was Marthinus du Plessis. The next meeting will be held on 9 December at the Hervormde Church at 18:00. People who would like to learn more about photography or their cameras can contact Des Jacobs (chairman) 076 858 6317 or Lize Maritz (secretary) 083 279 7997.

Are you a victim? If you need help, the Gender-Based Violence Command Centre (GBVCC) is the toll free number to call to speak to a social worker for assistance and counselling. Contact 0800 428 428 (0800 GBV GBV). Callers can also request a social worker from the Command Centre to contact them by dialling *120*7867# (free) from any cell phone. As we mark the start of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence on 25 November, under the theme Generation Equality Stands Against Rape, it's clear that we need a new approach. One that moves us forward and gains momentum every day.The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day. It was started by activists at the inaugural Women's Global Leadership Institute in 1991 and continues to be coordinated each year by the Center for Women's Global Leadership. It is used as an organizing strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls. In support of this civil society initiative, under the leadership of the UN SecretaryGeneral, António Guterres, the United Nations Secretary-General's UNiTE by 2030 to End Violence against Women campaign (UNiTE campaign) calls for global actions to increase awareness, galvanize advocacy efforts, and share knowledge and innovations. In 2019, the UNiTE campaign will mark the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, from 25 November to 10 December, under the theme, “Orange the World: Generation Equality Stands against Rape!” While the names, times and contexts may differ, women and girls universally experience rape, sexual violence, and abuse, in times of peace or war. In recent years, the voices of survivors and activists, through campaigns such as #MeToo, #TimesUp, #Niunamenos, #NotOneMore, #BalanceTonPorc, and others, have put the spotlight on the issue of sexual violence and have reached a crescendo that cannot be silenced or ignored anymore. That is why, under the umbrella of UN Women's Generation Equality campaign that marks the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the UNiTE Campaign is calling on people from all walks of life to learn more and take a stand against the pervasive rape culture that surrounds us.

A 4x4 bus anyone? KEEN on a new Toyota Quantum but need off-road ability, too? Well, an Australian company has a possible solution, handing the van a full 4x4 conversion.

Bus 4x4 says its conversion kit can be adapted across much of the Quantum range, from longwheelbase Crew Cab variants to the commuter derivatives (including the flagship VX model, which is badged as the Granvia in that country). carmag.co.za ED: Come on South Africa. Can our local specialists not do this? This vehicle will sell like hotcakes in Africa, to safari operators and to adventure tourists. It will be a huge success. Personally I must say it is perhaps the ugliest vehicle I have laid my eyes on, but there is no question - it will work and it will be popular. A bit of customisation might even make it look pretty! Hot Supra created locally SA Tuner Creates 310 kW Toyota Supra. With the hype of the Toyota Supra launch subsiding, attention now turns to the tuners who will be rubbing their hands in anticipation. The previous-gen Supra was very tunable and hopes are high that the new one is just as responsive. A South African tuning outfit is claiming 310 kW from its Supra project. Gauteng-based RG Motorsport are well-known for their bakkie and Mustang projects, but have started working on the all-new Toyota Supra. Powered by the B58 3.0-litre straight-6 engine, the Supra develops 250 kW and 500 Nm from the factory. However, RG Motorsport have developed a Stage One upgrade comprising a dual Techniflow 76 mm stainless steel exhaust, decatted exhaust downpipe, performance air filter and a software remap. RG Motorsport claims 310 kW for the Supra on the dyno, putting that

Yes, the folks over at Queensland-based Bus 4x4 have detailed their conversion kit for Toyota’s new Quantum (which is badged as the HiAce in Australia). Featuring full-time high and low range 4x4, the package includes a 180 mm lift as well as modified independent front and rear suspension. Billed as being “ideal for harsh environments”, the kit furthermore adds a rear diff lock, while front protection rails and rock sliders are optional. The firm also offers a choice of upgraded wheels (up to 17 inches in diameter) and tyres. Other interesting accessories include a bull bar, an A-pillar-mounted roof snorkel, underbody protection plates and even a retractable step to make entering and exiting the raised cabin a little easier. The company doesn’t say, but we’re guessing the Quantum 4x4 is powered by the standard 2,8-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel unit.

power figure somewhere around the 350 kW mark. That's not all though as there's more to come. RG Motorsport is working on even more power with a revised intercooler arrangement as well a larger turbocharger. cars.co.za

Will we ever see this Sentra?

Lydenburg,CNR Voortrekker & Viljoen Str, 013 235 2381

www.longtomnissan.co.za

Remember the Nissan Sentra? Well, an all-new version was recently revealed in the United States, where the nameplate remains the Japanese firm’s all-time best seller. The eighth-generation Sentra (previewed by the Sylphy) runs on a new platform that Nissan claims provides “greatly improved proportions and stance” (it’s about 50 mm lower and 50 mm wider than the outgoing model). The styling incorporates Nissan's latest design language, including the signature V-motion grille, slim LED headlamps and so-called "floating roof". The latest version of the sedan furthermore features new wheel designs and a range of fresh colours, including three new two-tone options. Inside, Nissan claims the new Sentra is “more refined and luxurious” than its forebear, featuring heated front seats trimmed in leather and the firm’s latest 360-degree camera system. You’ll also notice the eight-inch touchscreen display, which boasts Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. Power comes from a new naturally aspirated 2,0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine offering peak outputs 111 kW and 198 N.m. The a u t o m a k e r furthermore claims the Sentra’s handling abilities have been “greatly improved” thanks to the adoption of a new independent rear suspension and revised steering. In May 2017, the Sentra nameplate quietly left South Africa's new vehicle market. carmag.co.za ED: This is a beautifull car and we would love to see it here.

Will the Isuzu / Mazda partnership work? Bloodhound reaches 800 kph

AN Isuzu official has suggested Mazda had no input into the development of the new D-Max bakkie, which will also form the base for the as-yet-unrevealed next-generation Mazda BT-50. Isuzu global spokesperson Eiji Mitsuhashi told CarsGuide the new D-Max was "developed solely by Isuzu", suggesting Mazda was responsible only for styling its own version of the bakkie. "This was developed solely by Isuzu, and we have decided to supply or provide this vehicle to Mazda as an OEM [original equipment manufacturer]. But it was developed purely by us," Mitsuhashi emphasised, according to the publication. "We independently developed this D-Max. We tried to strike a balance between passenger use and more off-road demand. We understand the increasing demand on the D-Max as a passenger car," he added. Revealed in October 2019, the new D-Max – which will be built both in Thailand and here in South Africa (the latter recently being confirmed as part of a R1,2-billion investment) – will provide a base for the next-generation BT50 thanks to an agreement signed by the two companies back in 2016. Expect the next BT-50 to share the D-Max’s 3,0-litre turbodiesel engine, which boasts peak outputs of 140 kW (at 3 600 r/min) and 450 N.m (between 1 600 and 2 600 r/min) in its latest form. In July 2019, the managing director of Mazda Southern Africa told CARmag.co.za the next-gen BT-50 would feature “more robust” exterior styling and a cabin "probably comparable to the current CX-5". carmag.co.za ED: The Mazda BT 50 has always been a Ford Ranger under the skin and has built up an excellent reputation amongst Mazda fans. Pairing up with Isuzu could be an interesting move. Although Isuzu engines are regarded by some as “old school”, Isuzu builds more diesels than any other company. They have written the handbook on reliable no-nonsense diesel engines. And they are bullet proof - no question. If you combine this with Mazda styling and Mazda’s very nice interiors, you are probably looking at a very special bakkie for the future. Andre Coetzee

DE GRAAF UNDER-CAR 8 Breytenbach Street, Lydenburg

“AT 200mph (320kph) it’s like driving from snow on to ice, Bloodhound moves around and I’m throwing stabs of 90 degrees lock into it.” The words of driver Andy Green, fresh from sending Bloodhound LSR across South Africa’s Hakskeen Pan at 790kph. The latest run was the fastest yet. Bloodhound just hit 806kph. But these tests aren’t about beating the 1228kph record. Not yet. This is more about slowing down. For the previous run they deployed one parachute. “With one it’s quite challenging. It was jumping around in the airflow, pulling the back of the car around, so I was busy with the steering to keep it pointing straight. They are now aiming to put two out, which should stabilise things. But we want to see what the differences actually are.” Plain sailing? Not really. During the 790kph run Andy had to contend with his central data screen going blank at 627kph and ropey comms at the 16km mark, while inspection afterwards revealed minor bodywork damage to Bloodhound, cancelling the planned second run. “The CFD [computational fluid dynamics] done by Swansea University showed the streamlines of air coming off the front wheels, so we knew there might be an issue with the underside bodywork further back.” Dust and particles are hammering the bodywork and buckling a small steel plate metal. “We’ll be able to redesign the part back in the UK, but at the moment we’re patching it up for each run and seeing how well the modifications protect that area.” As far as driving goes? “It seems to be a bit of handful in crosswinds,” says Green, “hence the steering inputs.” Opposite lock in a seven tonne car at 320kph? Different breed. Although Green does at least have previous experience – Thrust SSC famously oversteered at transonic speeds. God speed, Andy Green. Topgear.co.za

While the holidays are supposed to be a happy and carefree time, there are tips you need to keep in mind before you leave your home in order to ensure that it is secure and that you don't find any unpleasant surprises upon your return. 1. Whenever possible find someone to live in your house while you are away. If this is not possible, create the illusion that someone is home. Ask a neighbour to open some curtains and windows during the day and to close them again at night. 2. Two giveaways that you are not home include outside lights that remain switched on during the day and an accumulation of post or newspapers on your lawn or in your post-box. When criminals see these tell-tale signs it is clear that no one is home and your house

becomes a soft target. Ask a neighbour to pick up the post and newspapers while you are away and set a timer to switch the outside lights on at night time and to switch them off again in the morning. 3. If you are away for more than two weeks try to arrange someone to mow your lawn. 4. Close your water stopcock in case a pipe bursts. 5. When you are about to leave your home to go on holiday, make a point of not loading your car where other people can see. Pull your car into the garage and load suitcases in your car boot behind closed doors rather than allowing people to see that you are about to leave for an extended period of time. 6. If you are a member of a security r a while

company, let them know that you are leaving for a while so that they may patrol your home more often. If you do not belong to a security company, create the perception that you do by putting up security boards outside your home. You can even 'install' fake cameras. 7. Ask your neighbours to keep a close eye on things and to report any strange activity around your home immediately. 8. Be careful of who you tell that you are going on holiday, also don't mention it on social media and if you do, make sure that your security settings don't allow for members from the public to see your status updates. 9. Lock away valuables in a safe or leave them with someone who you trust.

10. Do not leave any spare keys lying around, but if you absolutely have to leave a key, leave it with a neighbour.
