Thank you for joining us to see the newest collection of work from Washington, DC artist Matt Allen. We are proud to showcase these abstract pieces at our Downtown office this fall. Matt Allen’s large-scale series of paintings is focused on the idea of water and movement. The gestural creation is evident in each painting, but there is also a great deal of structure and balance of both shape and color. While they appear completely abstract, Matt’s paintings are in fact real representations of the world. Each painting is in fact based on an underlying photographic impression, primarily of landscapes. The meanings of the paintings thus take on as many layers as the physical layers of paint that were built up in their creation. We hope that you will enjoy Matt’s work as much as we have.
