IT was an honour to represent Dronfield at a recent gathering of civic leaders and mayors at the Brailsford home of the High Sheriff of Derbyshire, Fiona Cannon. I spoke to representatives from around the county and several of them had questions to ask about Dronfield, how I became Town Mayor and my Chain of Office. Closer to home, I was delighted to visit Northfield School and learn about the children’s efforts at growing their own produce. Just down the road, it was a thrill to open exciting new children’s play equipment in the playground alongside Stonelow School. I remember using this playground when I was a child! Across the valley at Dronfield Woodhouse there was an impressive turnout for the blessing of the well dressings, this year celebrating the work of the Guides and Edale Mountain Rescue. I met many more local young people at Chatsworth where I was invited to join local campers at Peak 2010. This spectacular event provided an opportunity for members of Scouting and Guiding in Derbyshire, together with their invited friends from Scouting and Guiding in other parts of the UK and overseas, to experience an international camp. The camp theme was ‘One World – Our World’ and I was delighted to see the young people from Dronfield and their leaders enjoying the event and making new friends from far and wide. Thank you to everyone who is playing a part in helping my Mayor’s Appeal. The Civic Service raised £500 and coffee mornings in the Civic Hall have been well supported. Thanks to my mum Denise, mother-in-law Susan and friend Joyce Emmens for their help. The next coffee morning is on Thursday, August 19th, so please come along! Coun Philip Blackburn, Dronfield Town Mayor
