Pet Tip

The type of feeding bowl matters! * The type of feeding bowl or dish matters. Choose a durable, nonporous material that’s easy to clean, won’t hold bacteria and can’t be chewed by your pet.

* Use the right size dish for your pet to feed comfortably. For example, if your dog has a short snout, use a bowl with a sloped side, so it’s easier for them to get the food. * Avoid using the pet’s feeding bowl as a scooping utensil. Use a clean, scoop or spoon that’s only used for this purpose.

Pet Tip

When traveling with your pet...

The American Kennel Club recommends a veterinary visit prior to taking pets on extended trips. Make sure all vaccinations are current and ask for a copy of health certificates/records.

Invest in a carrier or crate large enough for your pet. The crate should be large enough for the pet to stand, turn and lie down. A crate or carrier can keep pets secure in the car and may be recommended in pet-friendly hotels.

Pet Tip

Looking for a way to decrease pet odor in your home?

Increase the number of plants. Plants can brighten interior spaces, and they’re also remarkable at cleaning indoor air. The Clean Air Study conducted by NASA set out to find out the best way to clean the air in space stations. The association found that the Boston fern, spider plant, Chinese evergreen, weeping fig, variegated snake plant, and English ivy, among many other plants, were ideal for filtering air and removing harmful contaminants.

Pet Tip

It’s always good to get your dog professionally groomed. Not only for nail trimming and appearance - but for their long term health. Even the most attentive dog owner may not notice certain signs that suggest a dog may be sick or developing a condition that can threaten its longterm health. Dog groomers deal with dogs every day and are in a great position to recognize any abnormalities that may be indicative of a larger problem. Owners may not notice rashes, lesions, skin discoloration or lumps right away, but dog groomers, especially those who have groomed particular dogs in the past, may be more likely to notice such irregularities. This can provide an important safety net between grooming sessions and vet visits.

Pet Tip

When traveling with your pet in the car

Pack some travel items. Human beings tend to bring snacks and beverages along on road trips, and such items are necessary for pets, too. Pack water, food and some snacks for pets, but never feed them in a moving car. Take some time to feed pets at rest stops. The ASPCA advises feeding pets a light meal three to four hours before beginning the trip and serving pets only bottled water to reduce the risk of stomach problems. In addition to food and water, pack some toys to keep pets occupied during the trip. Such toys can also calm animals’ anxiety by providing them with something familiar.
