Welcome Feeling the Winds of Change It has been well documented that change, whether for good or bad, is most frequently a cause for stress. Even the most welcome and celebrated wedding can cause difficulty in adjusting to new life styles, schedules, and the like. Like it Marc Kane, Center Director or not the Senior Center is now going through many changes in order to survive into the future and continue to be a resource for our community. Our most significant change this year comes in the form of a mandate from the State to separate into two new agencies our two primary functions, one being the Area Agency on Aging and the other being a senior services center. The Senior Center has recently filed with the Secretary of State to form a new corporation for the Center, while the present corporation will be retained as the Area Agency on Aging for Klamath and Lake Counties. A new board will be created and the manner in which we relate between the two functions will no longer be internally but as separate entities. In fact it is a voluntary divorce bringing much change and much stress. We are doing our best to be informative and transparent about all the change but, to manage the stress, patrons and members will need to exercise some responsibility in staying informed. We passed new bylaws recently and put a great deal of effort into providing information prior to their approval by a unanimous vote of the membership. Yet some center members are disgruntled. All I can ask is for your patience and trust in our governing board, and that everyone exercise their responsibility to stay informed and provide us feedback in a timely manner. We all need to move forward together in order to manage the mandates of change that have been placed upon us. So what’s new at the Senior Center? Shirley Chapman has started a new oil painting class. The County Library District has opened a

new branch library here at the Center. An Eagle Scout will be bringing us a new computer class for seniors. Additional vendors are signing up to bring us information through the vendor table that has been made available each day. Our newest vendor will be Elizabeth Dare, Au.D. from Audiology Hear Again providing audiology services on September 14th. Kathy Lynn Jones will be making her first appearance at the Senior Center as a country singer on Friday, September 7th and on the evening of September 11th Dr. Joel Wallach will be delivering a free presentation on nutrition, a program sponsored by Youngevity 90 For Life. We are always looking for new events or services of interest to our seniors. Finally please notice the section in this issue titled We Would Like To Hear From You. Here you will find a survey about services and a request for your comments in general. We are always striving to keep the Center a vibrant and active place where Seniors can remain connected with each other and the community. Join Us! We Celebrate Life! Marc Kane Executive Director

Visitors can browse the beautiful new modular shelves containing print and audio books, and DVD’s, view the online catalog station and visit with library staff at the service desk. Cake and beverages will also be served. “We are very pleased to celebrate the partnership with KBSC and be able to expand our resources, materials and convenient service to the Senior Center,” said Andy Swanson, Library Director. Please submit something for us to consider printing in our next issue. Submittals should be sent to the attention of Marc Kane, Executive Director, Klamath Basin Senior Citizens Center.

Remembering... Nine one one, two thousand one By Audrey E. Davis

I woke up Tuesday morning, early as I usually do Got my cup of coffee, and sat down to watch TV. When the news came on, I stared in disbelief... I couldn’t believe what was showing in front of me! Two of our greatest buildings in our nation were on fire! Smoke, debris and people were everywhere. I watched in horror as another plane hit the building and tears filled my eyes, as I saw how scared everyone was As they fled from the scene Where once stood tall buildings, now like a dream! We heard and saw our Pentagon hit, More terror, and people shocked. “What is happening?” we were asking and wondering... It was as if our lives were all locked, rivited to telelvision, We couldn’t comprehend this was our country! Being blasted to bits, in front of our vision!

Lord, bless the president and our government, who has such a tremendous job ahead. Help all of them, who must look and search for the dead! How very heartbreaking that job must be! To find one that belongs to a family! Hearts break today, Lord. What can we say? Help them to know our prayers are with them, though we are far away! “God Bless America”, I cried aloud! “What is happening to us?” Why is there so much hate? What can we do, to help them know... That by loving all people, we can grow, Into the Nation you want us to be... So that 911-2001 we will never again see! We know you are there, a comforting hand, For them to hold as best they can. With all our love and support, they’ll make it through, Because they know... they can depend on YOU! And Lord, with your love and guidance we can be The Nation You intended it to be, so... So, God Please Bless America!

Remembering Dad

At Long Last

By K.L. Kay

By Dotte Shaffer

A sparkle of dew on a red velvet rose The burst of a moonflower As the moon starts to glow a daffodil dancing in the soft morning breeze as the bright golden sun shimmers rays through the trees Knowing how you loved nature dad, brings comfort somehow it’s the treasured reminder of you and your smile you’re missed so much more than words could describe we’re so lucky, so honored to have had you in our lives we love you always...

My love, like a river has flowed fast and free splashing over those who cared or did not care... My love, like a river has come to rest in a quiet pool of acceptance and contentment...
