Come share sh in a true farm-to-table experie experience, only ours is forestto-tabl to-table! Every year the sugar maple trees at McCloud Nature Park p produce sap with a high sugar conte content. We tap these trees by borin holes in their trunks and boring whe when daytime temperatures incr increase, sap runs into the attached bu buckets. Staff and volunteers co collect the sap daily, which is then pla placed in an evaporator and reduced int in into the delicious maple sirup. It’s an amazing process that visitors can wit witness and participate in first-hand!

Things to do! • Tap a tree yourself. • Explore the “Sugar Bush” area. • Find ways to identify trees in the winter. • Learn how Native Americans first made maple sirup and how colonial Americans advanced the process. • Visit the “Sugar Shack”, to see how a modern-day evaporator will condense hundreds of gallons of sugary sap into sweet, rich maple sirup. • Sample some 100% pure McCloud Maple Sirup and purchase some to take home, with all proceeds benefitting the parks!

Demonstration areas will be ongoing: March 5th & March 12th 9am – 4pm

“What Does That Mean?” Here are a few terms you may hear at McCloud Maple Sirup Days: Sugar Bush - a group of maple trees tapped for their sap Sirup - the old-time way of spelling syrup. This used to be Webster’s preferred spelling and designated the stuff as pure with no sugar added Sirup Shack - our picnic shelter which houses a modern-day evaporator that makes sirup Maple Sugaring – the process during which tree sap is collected and boiled into maple sirup Want to learn more? Group Volunteer Spotlight: HENDRICKS REGIONAL HEALTH YMCA Did you know that Hendricks County Parks & Recreation has great Group Volunteer Opportunities for your corporation, organization or club? Group volunteer projects enable people to work together with a common goal, while helping Hendricks County Parks make lifelong memories for thousands of families in our community, and keeping our parks a place of natural beauty for generations! The Hendricks County Parks Department and Park Board would like to thank the Hendricks Regional Health YMCA, whose group of volunteers braved unexpected rain on September 18th at McCloud Nature Park. They utilized their Association-wide Day of Service to help us update the landscaping in front of the Nature Center. We have partnered with the HRH YMCA for the Hendricks County Parks’ Summer Fun Run Series and Hendricks Regional Health YMCA’s Thanksgiving Gobble Gallop 5K. In the words of Stacy Wilson, Member Involvement Director, “This was another way great opportunity to partner together and spend the day giving back to Hendricks County Parks.” We can’t wait to see the results of their labors as our new native garden emerges in the Spring! Park visitors will appreciate the new landscape that will be used for Native Plant Education. Thank you Hendricks Regional Health YMCA!
