100 black woman ball raised $100k The National Coalition of 100 Black Women of Long Island recently raised $100,000 at its annual Black & White Candlelight Ball in Garden City honoring outstanding individuals. Julie Dade Howard, President, says, “We provide African American women with the necessary tools to achieve their dreams of a college education through our Biennial Scholarship awards and are appreciative of the support from the community at-large.”

The CDA Celebrates Holiday Cheer with Music, Cocktail The Hempstead Community Development Agency (CDA) celebrated its 6th Annual Holiday Concert and cocktail reception at the Circulo De La Hispanidad on Peninsula Boulevard. The event was free of charge and hosted by Carolyn Harding (Harding Music Group), performances by the Hempstead Select Chorale/Voices of Virtue featuring, Arthur Lai (Operatic Tenor), Melanie Galeano, Isaiah Liriano and Ekele Ukegbu.

The event also recognized unsung local leader, Joyce M. Shackley, from Nassau County with the “Shero Award” for her path breaking achievements. The NCBW’s 100 LI members remain committed to investing our time and energy to “Inform, Engage and Act” as advocates on behalf of women and the Long Island community. Each year the Incorporated Village of Hempstead Community Development Agency (CDA) recognizes dynamic members of the community who display outstanding leadership, achievement and commitment to the village in sectors such as business, economic development, aesthetics and more. Awards were also given in honor of the Safe Routes To School Poetry Contest, recognizing students affiliated with the grant issued National Safe Routes To School program.
