14th International Congress of the International Radiation Protection Association


Introduction

Registration

The 14th International Congress of the International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA14) will be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, South Africa between the 9th and13th of May 2016. As part of the programme the organising committee has arranged a side event specifically aimed at students. This University Day will be hosted by the Physics Department of the University of Cape Town.

There are no registration fees; however students and lecturers are required to register online at: www.irpa14capetown.org.za/universityday

The organisers are currently investigating the possibility of providing transportation to the workshop from various tertiary institutions in and around Cape Town. Please indicate during the registration process if you require transportation. You will be notified in due course if it will be provided.

Objective of the University Day To provide students from tertiary institutions, with an updated understanding of radiation protection, through presentations by renowned world experts in the field. At the end of the course, students will have an overview of the philosophy of radiation protection and the principles that guide decision making in radiation protection. The application of radiation protection in various industries will be discussed with a special session on the impact of Fukushima on emergency planning. This is a once in a life time opportunity to attend lectures given by world-renowned experts and to interact with them. Students will also learn about career opportunities in this unique and interesting field.

Target Audience Graduate and post-graduate students in natural sciences, engineering and medicine and their lecturers should attend.

Venue The majestic Jameson Hall at the University of Cape Town.

Limited seating is available and students are urged to register as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. A light lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Closing date for registration is 31 March 2016.

Programme The programme for the day will feature lectures by prominent professionals in the field of radiation protection, addressing the current status of radiation protection, evolution of radiation protection philosophy and experience feedback.
