Valentine’s Day Recipe
Chocolate Dipped Strawberries
A delicious choccy favourite that is sure to capture the heart of your special someone!
INGREDIENTS 50 (2oz) white chocolate (or milk or plain, if you prefer) 12 strawberries METHOD Melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of gently simmering water (or blast for 20sec bursts in the microwave until melted). Meanwhile wash and thoroughly dry about 12 strawberries, leaving the green hulls on. Holding a strawberry by its hull, dip the fruit into the melted chocolate. Put on to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Repeat with remaining berries, then chill to set. Serve.

Follow these handy tips to get the most from your Heart & Home Candles

Issue: ‘Tunnelling’, whereby the candle is left with a hole down the centre, reducing the amount of light from the flame and increasing the wax lost. Reason: The candle has not been left to burn for long enough. Tip: Allowing the entire top layer of the candle to melt to the sides of the jar on first use creates a ‘burn memory’. Doing this means subsequent uses should follow the same pattern, avoiding the tunnelling effect. Pooling time for our small jars is approximately 45 mins and 90 mins for the large jars. Result: Maximum burn time using all of the wax, cleaner glass container and more light from the flame!
PUT A LID ON IT ‘BLOOM’ BEGONE

Issue: ‘Bloom’ appearance on wick from previous burns. Reason: The candle has been burning for too long, usually over 3 hours. Tip: Always extinguish the flame after 3 hours (dependent on jar size), trim the wick to 5mm and relight. Result: Extended burn times and a cleaner burn overall.

Issue: The candle lid is not secure so may detach from jar on lifting. Reason: The lid has not been put back on correctly. Tip: The lid has been designed to be pushed down and twisted to ensure seal suction. Result: The sealed lid keeps the fragrance fresher for longer.

Issue: Hot jar base. Reason: There is 2cm or less of wax left in the jar. Tip: It may be hard to say goodbye but we recommend that you discontinue use once the flame nears the base of the jar, this usually means there’s only about 2cm of wax left to burn. Result: Avoids any possibility of heat damage to the container or surfaces.

Issue: Slight discolouration. Reason: As soy is a natural material it can be susceptible to extremes in temperature. Although burn should not be affected it still makes sense to take these environmental factors into consideration when using or storing Heart & Home candles. Tip: Store candles away from cold sources such as near windows in winter, and avoid direct sunlight. It is best that the candle is always as near to room temperature as possible (65-75oF/18-24oC). Result: Retains its true natural aesthetic.
KEEP IT CENTRAL

Issue: Candle wick drifts to be off-centre and one side of jar may become too hot. Reason: Natural occurrence that may happen when candle burns. Tip: Use a lollipop stick or similar to nudge wick to the centre. Result: Centralised wick creating an even heat source to burn wax.

Issue: Intensity of fragrance is either not strong enough or too overpowering. Reason: The candle chosen may not be the right size for the room it has been placed in. Tip: As the fragrance throw comes from the wax pool it is always best to choose the appropriate candle size for the area you want to place it in. Our smaller candle is deliberately designed for smaller rooms and likewise with the larger ones. Result: The perfect fragrance throw!

Issue: Votive collapses when melting. Reason: It has not been placed in a votive holder. Tip: Always remove votive from original packaging and place in an appropriate holder before lighting. Result: Votive will melt correctly and fragrance your home beautifully.
