For the last three years I have published the East Sussex edition of Wellbeing Magazine, and always strived to publish local articles from therapists and clinics in East Sussex to inspire people to take an active interest in their wellbeing. It’s been a fantastic journey and I’ve met some really inspiration people accross Sussex, however, after much careful consideration, I have decided to hand over to a new publisher, Lesley Hallows, so I can dedicate all my time to my familly. During my time with the magazine, I have seen it grow from just a few contributors to over sixty active members, most of whom regularly send in news and listings. I’d like to thank everyone who has been involved with the magazine, for keeping it such a lively and inspiring place. I hope you will continue to be part of it. Lesley brings with her a keen interest in alternative therapies and a wealth of experience having previously run her own business. I wish her every success with her new venture. Throw away your plastic! ...keep your drinks in glass. Did you know that the ubiquitous plastic bottles in which we keep our water are actually causing us harm? Dog listening is a not just another training method. It is a revolutionary, gentle, and effective way of giving our dogs the happy and stress free life they deserve. Where it has been used in shelters, one study showed the return rate drop from 35% to just 3%. All dog behavioural problems (other than medical problems) are rooted in the dog’s mistaken belief that it is leader of its pack in a world it does not understand. Once the dog is freed from its job as pack leader all sorts of problem behaviours begin to resolve. Dog listening allows the owner or family to communicate to the dog (with absolutely no need for shouting, gadgets or force) that it is at the bottom of the pack hierarchy, enabling it to lead a happy, relaxed and stress free existence, without the burden of having to worry constantly about its family or owner. This can be accomplished by using the language that all canines use with each other, translated into a simple system anyone (including children) can use in their day to day life with their dog, called Amichien Bonding. This method was developed by internationally recognised Dog Listener Jan Fennell, after watching the horse whisperer Monty Roberts transform a friend’s very troubled horse. Monty had come up with his method by studying the behaviour of wild mustangs. She then followed the same principle Monty had by studying the dog’s wild ancestor, the wolf, and developed the system that today is known as Amichien bonding. Every year, The Salvation Army launches its annual Christmas Present Appeal that asks people to donate a new, unwrapped gift for a child, teenager or older person. The Salvation Army then distributes the gifts to people who would otherwise have little or nothing at Christmas. Last year, The Salvation Army distributed over 150,000 gifts. s p i t s ’ e t a K Vitamin D - the powerhouse vitamin

As the cold and flu season approaches, Vitamin D’s benefits on immune system function are more important than ever. Medical research shows that maintaining high levels of Vitamin D is one of the best things people can do to help fight off colds and flu. It plays a major role in supporting immune function and is known to be an effective agent against inflammation, which is typically caused by flu and other respiratory viruses. By helping modulate the body’s response to respiratory viruses, it helps prevent dangerous and even fatal build up of fluid in the lungs. Though as yet there is no clinical evidence that supplemental Vitamin D can be considered a flu preventative or treatment, there is ample evidence that low levels of the vitamin are associated with higher incidence of a wide range of serious illnesses, including respiratory infections. In addition, numerous studies have shown that people with high levels of the vitamin appear to be less likely to contract flu and other respiratory viruses.

Long recognised as important to bone health and strength, Vitamin D has recently been identified as crucial to almost all aspects of health. Deficiency has been recognised as a global health problem, and has been implicated as a factor in a host of illnesses and disorders including cancer, heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. In addition, low levels of the vitamin have been associated with depression, chronic pain, birth defects, and periodontal disease. Because sun exposure is necessary to stimulate the body’s production of the vitamin, some researchers speculate that the indoor lifestyle and weaker UV rays of winter weather make the traditional cold and flu season even more of a challenge. There are relatively few dietary sources of the vitamin, so without adequate sun exposure deficiency is very common. The Food and Nutrition Board at the Institute of Medicine of The National Academies, responsible for establishing Recommended Dietary Allowances of various nutrients, set an RDA

of 200 mgs of Vitamin D per day. That recommendation has been questioned as being insufficient, and in 2008 the American Association of Paediatrics announced a new recommendation that literally doubled the existing RDA to 400 IU per day. The AAP recommends that supplementation begin in the first two days after birth. Our bodies make natural antibiotics called anti microbial peptides and it is thought that vitamin D increases the production of these. Is it then just coincidence that there are fewer bugs around in the summer than in the winter? Children with rickets (lack of vitamin D) often have more infections. It was first thought that this was due to weakened bones but its more probably down to a lack of vitamin D. Vitamin D is found in fish liver oils, butter, cod liver oil, egg yolks, halibut, liver, milk, oats, salmon, sardines, sweet


Wellbeing nutrition potatoes, tuna and vegetable oils. Vitamin D is also made by the body in response to the action of sunlight on the skin. Any intestinal disorders and liver and gallbladder malfunctions can interfere with the absorption of vitamin D and also some cholesterol lowering drugs, antacids, mineral oils and steroid hormones can also interfere with the absorption. The message here is get out in the sunlight, particularly in winter, as much as possible. Get your levels checked. For every ten people I check with a blood test four are deficient and need some sort of additional supplementation. What is concerning is these people are eating foods with vitamin D, so particularly this year, barring any other underlying conditions, it seems to be a sunlight issue.

Garlic - the giant of bulbs I could write a thesis on garlic - it’s my favourite natural food supplement. To me garlic is one of the most valuable foods on the planet. It has been used since biblical times and has a mention in the literature of the ancient Hebrews and Egyptians. The builders of the pyramids supposedly ate garlic daily for endurance and strength. It is a potent immune system stimulant and a natural antibiotic. Garlic

contains an amino acid derivative called alliin. When converted to allicin, garlic has an antibiotic effect that exerts an antibacterial effect estimated to equivalent 1 percent of penicillin. Because of its antibiotic properties garlic was used to treat wounds and infection and to prevent gangrene during the first world war. There is also some evidence that it can destroy certain viruses. If you can’t cope with it raw, roasted and stir fried you can take Aged Kyolic Garlic from Quest. The versatility of garlic is amazing: it has antioxidant properties; the sulphur and hydrogen compounds in garlic are effective protectors against oxidation and free radical damage. Garlic aids in the detoxification of peroxides such as hydrogen peroxide and helps to prevent fats from being oxidised and deposited in the tissues and arteries. Studies on aged garlic extract (AGE) have shown that the aging process boosts the antioxidant potential. AGE protects against DNA damage, keeps blood vessels healthy, and guards against radiation and sunlight damage. If you’re worried about garlic smells choose an odourless form, like AGE or try chewing parsley.

Essential Vitamin C Vitamin C is an antioxidant that is required for at least three metabolic functions in the body including; tissue growth, repair of adrenal gland function and healthy gums. It also aids in the production of anti stress hormones and interferon. Studies have shown that taking vitamin C can recede symptoms of asthma and it protects against the harmful effects of pollution, helps to prevent cancer, protects against infection and enhances immunity. Vitamin C

increases the absorption of iron, so they are often taken together. As we are unable to make it ourselves, it must be obtained through the diet or in the form of a supplement. Alcohol, analgesics, antidepressants, oral contraceptives and steroids may reduce the levels of vitamin C in the body but smoking causes a serious depletion of this vitamin, more so than anything else. Be careful taking large amounts of ascorbic acid as this can lead to stomach irritation trying taking non ascorbate acid e.g. magnesium or calcium ascorbate. I’ve never found personally or professionally that vitamin C stops a cold or flu but certainly it’s worth taking 1g daily in the flu and cold season to ‘boost’ the immune system.

Don’t forget basic Hygiene rules! One of the most important factors in preventing flu and colds is hygiene. The two main ways they spread are: firstly, if someone who is infected sneezes or coughs and you come in contact with the virus in the air; and secondly, if you touch an object which may have the virus and you then touch your eyes, mouth or nose. I don’t want you all becoming OCD about hand washing (!) but washing your hands thoroughly can reduce your likelihood of catching viruses by a whopping 35%. It’s common for people to touch their nose, eyes and mouth. Most of these actions are sub-conscious, like licking your

Wellbeing nutrition tongue for flipping pages of a book or a magazine. As soon as you feel an itch you immediately rub or scratch your eyes. Remember the virus can be anywhere - a door knob, a remote control, phones, computer keyboards, etc. All you need to do is keep washing your hands with soap and water frequently. And most importantly, stop touching your face. Try and wash your hands before handling food and eating, putting on contact lenses, going to the loo, blowing your nose, or coughing and sneezing, touching animals, handling rubbish, smoking, changing nappies and door handles, going into hospital or visiting sick or injured people.

Echinacea Otherwise known as purple coneflower, this herb has amazing properties. Cells are glued together with the help of hyaluronic acid. Bad bacteria like staphylococci and streptococci produce hyaluronidase which dissolves the “glue” allowing the bacteria to get in to the cell membrane. Echinacea has an active constituent with neutralises the hyaluronidase and stops the bacteria from spreading, leaving the white blood cells to deal with the infection locally. Cell membranes have receptor sites to which viruses attach themselves and each have molecules which block the receptor sites so that viruses cannot become attached. It will also increase the activity of the immune system by

activating the coding of T cells. Generally it fights inflammation and bacterial and viral infection and stimulates certain white blood cells. Echinacea is good for the immune system, colic, colds, flu and infectious illnesses. It should not be taken for long periods of time with people with autoimmune disorders, and it’s best not to take it all year round, but now is an excellent time of year to start. Some of my patients swear by it and say they never get ill during the winter. You can buy it in a tincture in drops or in tablets. I prefer the tincture as it’s more potent. Before you get the flu, general symptoms of an impaired immune system include fatigue, repeated infections, inflammation, allergic reactions, oral thrush and slow wound healing. It is estimated that a healthy adult will catch on average two colds per year - people who have more colds and infections are likely to have some problem with their immune function.

Powerful Probiotics When we think about immunity we often forget about our gut. Seventy per cent of the body’s immune system is in the gut, so keeping it healthy is crucial. Let’s look firstly at probiotics. Probiotics are beneficial bacteria normally present in the digestive tract. They are vital for proper digestion and also perform a number of other useful functions such as preventing the overgrowth of yeast and other pathogens, and synthesizing vitamin K. The probiotics most often used as supplements are acidophilus and bifidobacteria. Cultured fermented foods also contain various types and amounts of beneficial bacterias.

These foods include buttermilk, cheese, kefir, miso, sauerkraut, tempe and yoghurt. The digestive tract is known as the gut associated immune system. Incomplete digested foods can result in immune reactions like allergies. Whether you succumb to infections is also linked by your balance of gut flora. Probiotics produce substances which stop harmful bacteria growing. They are nature’s antibiotics. They keep E coli, enterobacteria, staphylococci, salmonella and campylobacter at bay and help prevent food poisoning. But they don’t just stop there - probiotics give pathogenic bacteria a hard time and boost your immune system so are useful in all types of disease from cancer to allergies. The two main types of good bacteria are acidophilus and bifidobacteria. Acidophilus has antifungal properties that help to reduce blood cholesterol levels, aid digestion and enhance the absorption of nutrients. The flora in a healthy gut should consist of at least 85 per cent lactobacilli and 15 percent coli form bacteria. However, the typical colon bacteria count is usually the reverse. This can result in gas, bloating intestinal and systemic toxicity, constipation and malabsorption of nutrients.Taking supplements help to combat all of these problems by reintroducing the intestinal flora for a healthier balance. There are many good acidophilus supplements available. Acidophilus products come in tablet, capsule and powered forms. Non dairy formulas are best for those who have dairy intolerance. Acidophilus can die at high temperatures. Keep it in a cool, dry place, refrigerate it but don’t freeze it.


Bifidobacteria aid in the synthesis of the B vitamins by creating healthy intestinal flora. These are the predominant organisms in the intestinal flora and establish a healthy environment for the manufacture of the B complex vitamins. When you take antibiotics, the friendly bacteria in your digestive tract are destroyed along with the harmful bacteria. Supplementing your diet can help you maintain a healthy intestinal flora. Unhealthy flora can result in the liberation of abnormally high levels of ammonia as protein containing foods are digested. This irritates the intestinal membranes and in addition the ammonia is absorbed in the blood stream and must be detoxified by the liver or it can cause nausea, a decrease in appetite, vomiting and other toxic reactions. By promoting the proper digestion

of foods the friendly bacteria also aid in preventing digestive disorders such as constipation and gas as well as food allergies. If digestion is poor, the activity of intestinal bacteria on undigested food may lead to excessive production of the body chemical histamine which triggers allergic symptoms. So in the coming months if you feel your immunity is low, it is worth taking a daily probiotic supplement. As some of you know I’m not a fan of the probiotic drinks, as they are expensive and the levels of good bacteria in them are low. For those sensitive to dairy foods, they are not suitable and they contain sugar. Eating a diet high in probiotic foods will serve you just as well and these include: leeks, onions, garlic, shallots, asparagus, artichokes, fruit and vegetables and a high soluble fibre diet encourages the right

bacteria. Please do not buy cheap probiotics, they are a total waste of money. If you want some expert advice - ask someone qualified to talk you through the various probiotic supplements on the market.

A

yurveda (a holistic system of medicine that originated in India thousands of years ago) works with the energy of the whole plant and integrates this knowledge to treat the whole individual instead of suppressing single symptoms. Using this principal, turmeric can have a profound effect on IBS, a disabling and restricting disease, which often sees sufferers having to live very close to a bathroom. According to Ayurveda, plants that treat digestion are often the most important herbs of all, as digestion is the basis of mental and physical health. The healing properties of turmeric Turmeric has strong digestive regulative properties, and is traditionally used for weak stomachs, dyspepsia, abdominal cramps and to normalise metabolism. It is thought to help digest protein and the breakdown of fats whilst increasing absorption, and the ability of the stomach to withstand digestive acids. Turmeric can also act as an analgesic and have

Its effect on the whole body can be profound including its antispasmodic effect on the digestive system along with the purification of body and mind. As well as helping with digestion, turmeric can also help with gallstones, poor circulation, wounds and anemia. Stress and comfort foods As many IBS sufferers will already know, diet plays an important role in controlling the symptoms. Recovery can be painful and many people prefer to stay in the familiar pain than risk something new, which of course is often something better as well. “I worked with someone who had effectively detatched himself from society. He craved connection but had so little self esteem and regarded himself so poorly that he couldn’t believe anyone would be interested in being with him. He saw no value in himself and couldn’t see why others would do so. To compound matters he had completely given up hope. He actually used his illness as a reason why he couldn’t meet new people. When he did meet people he would present to them a false view of the person he was in an attempt to ensure

they accepted him, believing that being himself would be disastrous. Over the weeks we examined together the origin of these beliefs about himself. I helped him to look at other evidence and options which he had hitherto ignored. Using a combination of discussion and practical activity he began to test some of the alternative ideas that we had explored. He found for the first time in many years that people were enjoying his company and of course this became a self fulfilling prophecy. The more he did it, the more confidence he gained and the more his self esteem began to increase. He had resigned himself to a low value unrewarding life. He had become stuck in a destructive relationship and was becoming increasingly detached from the connection he wanted. In just ten weeks he made a remarkable improvement to the point where he once again believed that life could be good and fulfilling and rewarding.”

ur senses are the bridge between our own inner world and the world outside. Through touching, tasting, sensing our inner wellbeing, through exploring movement and balance, seeing and hearing, we build ourselves a basic understanding of life. We form our own sense of self, our own image of who we are, what life is and what it means to be human. How we are perceived and treated by the people around us, how the atmosphere in our house is, the neighbourhood, our culture, all this we meet through our senses and internalise. As baby, toddler and young child, we are very open to the world around us, more so than in later age. We are fully engaged to learn, to connect, to find love and a home in the world. And out of what we

meet and experience we create a home inside ourselves. We build up our confidence in life (outside) and in ourselves (inside). As adults making sense of our life is something that many of us keep doing for the rest of our existence. Now more out of a conscious response to what we encounter in our daily life. Life can become a path of self development, a path of initiation towards our True self. To look for meaning and an inner strength, a source of motivation to change our life so that we do what really matters to us. We can find new inspiration, courage and above all love and understanding for ourselves and humanity. Next to individual counselling I enjoy working with groups using knowledge out of anthroposophy - meaning knowledge (Sophia) of mankind (Anthropos) - and our own biographical experiences. It

is wonderful to see how people transform through sharing life experiences and meeting each other in such deeply honest ways. By exploring what is around us in daily life and how we experience the world, we can come closer to an understanding of life and our own unique self. One way to deepen this experience is to more consciously use our sense experiences. Anthroposophy speaks of 12 senses, 12 doors we have as human being to connect with the world. 1. In a large bowl mix together the raisins, currants, suet, breadcrumbs and grated carrots. 2. Mix together the Sweet Freedom, Guinness, Brandy and eggs. 3. Pour onto the fruit mixture. Stir well until combined. 4. Cover and leave in a cool place overnight. 5. The next day, grease the basin or mould with butter or oil and place a small circle of non stick baking parchment in the bottom of the basin or in the top and

If you are using a basin, cover with a piece of baking parchment followed by tin foil and tie with string. 7. Steam for 8 hours, keeping the water in the pan topped up with boiling water. Leave to cool and if you’ve use a basin, remove the baking parchment and foil and re-cover with new paper and foil. Store the pudding in a cool place until Christmas day.

8. On Christmas morning, steam the pudding for at least an hour before serving, turn it out onto a serving plate and decorate with a sprig of holly (wrap the stalk in tin foil first). Serves 8-10

Join a fitness class, the gym, a personal trainer and simply go in at your own level and pace, have breaks if you need to, use the activity to enjoy yourself, learn skills and get fit all at the same time.

Rest and Rasul Mud

A

fter a busy week, the promise of a trip to the beautiful county of Shropshire for a night of rest and relaxation was just what we needed. Setting off on our journey to drop our daughter at my parents for a child free evening, we arrived at the Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel, Golf & Spa in Whitchurch, a relaxed country club ambience with stylish, modern interiors. We drove through the golf course and with 2 challenging and professionally designed courses, a good size swimming pool and their recently renovated Vital Health & Wellbeing Club it’s the perfect venue for couples, families and group nights away. Even though we arrived in torrential rain, the golf course was busy with keen golfers of all ages, however Richard and I were here to sample the delights of the Vital Health & Wellbeing Club.

The Spa Arriving just in time to order our lunch, we slipped into our robes and slippers before sitting down to our light lunch. Our package was to include a 30 minute Rasul treatment followed by a 30 minute back massage. Having tried a number of Rasul treatment in the past I was keen to see how this one compared and was surprised to find that this treatment was a “Do It Yourself” one.

Once in the Rasul treatment room we were shown the salt scrub, which we were to use as an exfoliator, then a quick shower before applying the mud while sitting in the steam room. After about 20 minutes the steam stopped and we pressed a button to release over head shower sprinklers to wash off all the mud. It was quite a fun experience and one that is perfect for couples or groups of friends on a girlie break.

What palmer signs to avoid in a partner ? This has got to be the most asked question in my 50 years of reading palms.

T

raditionally women have always been more intuitive and open in the complementary and alternative arenas, and increasingly now, many will send in palmer photocopies of prospective partners for expert insight, seeking to avoid emotional mistakes, which can be costly financially and emotionally. In these hectic times where everything is rush-rush, I am asked more and more at my lectures, what handy tips I can pass on to help achieve a smooth partnership, from an examination of photocopied palm prints, sent from all over the world by email or post. Here are the items in my quick “handy guide” for the prospective man in your life. l When the fingers and thumb are firm and inflexible, beware, as a stiff hand shows a stiff mind, obstinacy is not a good relationship selling point. l A bulbous thumb tip, with a hard hand, can mean a violent temper and blind rages, not the ideal when there may be children in the house. l When the two lines that cross the palm, are replaced with just one, expect highly complex, unstable intense emotions. Seen by many psychologists as an omen for problems, Charles Manson and Tony Blair are both carriers. l Absent or badly shaped heart line, this must be as unbroken and

as unblemished as possible, and with a nice curve to end between the first two fingers, symbolising good emotional health, and outlook. l The absence of what is known as the “Destiny” line, that is the line that runs up the hand centre to the middle finger area, in some studies, with this missing, can be a criminal marker, this usually show a drifter through life, with no major plans, this means frequent job and home changes, which always go with financial “gluts and famines” These were the men who always got on best in the services, such as the army etc. This was recognised by Carl Jung, in his studies in palmer criminology. l If the basal phalange of the index finger is thicker or fatter than the pattern for the other fingers, can show digestive system over activity, this is one of the signs for a problem drinker, (check this one yourself as it can also show a chocoholic) l The index finger is shorter than the ring finger, an indicator of possible testosterone/oestrogen imbalance, and this shows a lack of confidence, severely short, and we have the “Adlerian inferiority complex” and you would criticise this man at your peril! Football obsessive’s and potential self harmers, such as speed freaks and alcoholics often carry this mark. l Hand tremors, there are many types of palmer tremor, but it could be one sign of a problem drinker,

check with the back up signals of vertically lined nails and dry lifeless hair, showing vitamin depletion. Press the hand at the thumb base, if this is very soft expect a couch potato, as this means depleted energy levels, you will not get much life in the bedroom or help in the house here.. l If a line runs across the hand base parallel to the watchstrap, and it cuts into the lifeline, depending on other factors this is the “addiction line” which shows food allergies, compulsive behaviour, or various drug difficulties.The past few years have shown major increase in this line formation in the young. And incidentally is new recognised as one marker for A.D.H.D difficulties in children. Alhough this is just a “thumbnail” sketch, it will enable you at a glimpse to know what areas to question your partner, before finally making up your mind. ecent research for the national organisation, British Naturism (www. bn.org.uk), indicating that around 4 million people in the UK describe themselves as Naturists, it’s perhaps time to re-examine this position and consider the immense wellbeing that Naturist living confers. Naturism, the practice of social nudity when circumstances – and weather – permit, has been around for many years and is going through something of a growth period. People are seeking ways of de-stressing and gaining a sense of calm and the Naturist environment ticks all the boxes. Any naturist will tell you that to be truly in touch with nature, to feel the air, the sun and the water on bare skin, is one of the most life affirming and amazing experiences one can have. In fact, once you have swum without a costume, you will never go back – we believe they are pointless. When we shed our clothes, we also shed the constraints of social status that by which we are often judged. Naturists make no such judgements and simply get to know the true person within.

Then of course there are the positive benefits for body image. How many people go through their lives tortured by insecurity about perceived ‘faults’ with their bodies, suffering low self esteem as a result? Our blemishes, scars and ‘imperfections’ are not unique, we all have them. Naturism helps us to understand this and also to realise that the human body is to be celebrated for its rich diversity, not held as an object of shame. Naturism is a non-sexual environment, there is nothing lewd or inappropriate going on (this would be as unacceptable as in a clothed situation), and as such it is great for the whole family. Our children grow up with a greater awareness of the human body and in fact Naturism offers something of an antidote to the unhealthy yet pervasive images

of the ‘perfect body’ with which they are continually confronted and which can cause so many body hang-ups in later life. My family are members of Diogenes Sun Club in Buckinghamshire (www.diogenessunclub.co.uk), a long established naturist club with a 300 strong membership that spans the generations. Our club is one of over one hundred clubs in the UK and is located in six acres of beautiful grounds nestled around a country house. So what exactly do we do there? Quite simply what everyone does in social situations, except that when the circumstances permit we prefer not to wear clothes. At Diogenes we have indoor and outdoor swimming pools so that we can enjoy naturism no matter what the great British weather throws at us. We have

STOP SMOKING Why wait until new year to give up smoking? Never having been a smoker I was completely unaware that these products were on the market so we got some in for our testers to try. Seasonal Tips for a Happy Back This is a busy time of year for Santa, checking his list of good boys and girls, planning his present deliveries and making sure his reindeer are ready for the big night. It’s a good job he has been preparing all year, because Father Christmas is not getting any younger. So with all his lifting of heavy bags of toys and getting stuck in old chimneys he has to take care of his back. We all get caught up in the ever increasing run up to the festive season, but it’s worth looking after ourselves and following good chiropractic advice.

DON’T SHOP TILL YOU DROP Shopping really aggravates back problems. Wandering around the Arndale Centre, carrying all those Christmas goodies can cause joint aches and muscle stiffness. The best thing is to pace yourself, take a break when you need to. WALKS can help gently mobilize the back. Bed rest is a thing of the past. It’s usually best to keep active. GOOD POSTURE helps avoid injury in the first place. Avoid lifting and twisting at the same time (especially if you’re carrying heavy toys). It’s best to bend your knees and brace yourself

by holding your tummy tight. Working in cramped spaces (chimneys) or having bad posture can cause very mild but constant wear and tear. DRINK plenty of water. Dehydration affects the whole body, even the discs in your back! The recommended minimum is at least 4 pints of water per day. ICE helps to ease any immediate sprains and strains. An ice pack (or rooftop snow) should be lightly wrapped so it doesn’t freeze the skin (a tea towel will do). It should then be placed against the injury and must not be left on for more

than 10 minutes at a time. DON’T IGNORE IT! Pain can be a warning sign. If you hurt yourself (e.g. from sudden sleigh stops) it’s always best to seek expert advice and treatment as soon as possible. Pain is an important warning, don’t ignore it! As a treat for Father Christmas (or one of his helpers), leave your WELLBEING out this year.
