TO SAFETY SUPERVISOR This heartwarming story illustrates the power of second chances in a world where compassion and love can make all the difference. Maddie, a resilient German Shepherd mix, found solace and hope at The Haven. She wandered through the streets, pregnant and alone. The Haven provided Maddie with food and a safe place to give birth, welcoming her with open arms. She found hope here, surrounded by compassionate souls eager to care for her. Haven caregivers provided Maddie with a cozy, secure space to give birth to her six adorable puppies safely. With access to nutritious food, medical care, and a nurturing environment, Maddie blossomed into an attentive and loving mother, ensuring the well-being of her precious offspring. While Maddie and her puppies were showered with love and care, the shelter staff knew their goal was to find them all loving forever homes. Through tireless efforts, they searched for responsible and committed families to provide Maddie and her puppies with the life they deserved. Months passed, and Maddie’s puppies found their forever homes, bringing joy and happiness to their new families. But Maddie’s journey still needed to be completed. Destiny intervened when a loving family crossed paths with Maddie. Instantly captivated by her gentle spirit and unwavering resilience, they knew Maddie belonged with them. Now, Maddie is spoiled with love, affection, and endless belly rubs. Her new family provides her with comfort and stability.
“Maddie is a super friendly dog,” said Kathy, Maddie’s new human companion. She is so outgoing and loves coming to work with me where she greets the employees and rides on the forklift, making sure all are safe and productive.” Maddie’s story testifies to the incredible impact of compassion and kindness on homeless animals in need.
VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
We would like to recognize one outstanding volunteer. Through her time and efforts, this individual is positively impacting the lives of homeless pets, especially friendly felines. Meet Jill Rosene, a selfless and compassionate volunteer. Jill’s tireless effort and dedication to saving homeless pets demonstrates her commitment to The Haven’s mission. As a volunteer, she contributes to a variety of programs and initiatives. Our Petco pet adoption satellite location in Daphne includes caring for The Haven’s adoptable cats. “I can spend individual time with the animals there. I always leave Petco with a smile,” says Jill. Cats and kittens instantly feel at ease with her warm, caring demeanor, making her a beloved figure among the cats and staff. Jill’s dedication extends beyond her regular volunteer work. Often, she sews custom blankets for our housed animals to keep them warm and cozy at night.

Happy TAILS Allison Meet Allison, an adorable cat who has captured the hearts of many with her heartwarming story. She got a second chance at life when she was adopted from The Haven. Allison’s story reminds us how much shelters can change the lives of animals. Allison was a tiny, weak kitten when she got to the shelter. The Haven’s compassionate staff and volunteers immediately stepped in to help her. Allison gradually regained her strength, becoming a vibrant and playful furball. As the days turned into weeks, Allison’s warm and friendly personality started to shine through. She was eager for affection and human company with everyone she met. Allison’s playful nature and gentle demeanor captivated shelter visitors, but Codi felt an immediate connection to her. Codi, a National Guard member, wanted a loyal and loving pet companion. She knew Allison was the right match after hearing her story and spending time with her.
Radio Meet Radio, an exuberant canine who found his forever home after months of searching. Once a scared puppy, this dog blossomed into an overflowing personality with the dedication and care provided by The Haven. Radio’s journey began when he was brought to The Haven as a small and timid puppy desperately needing love and care. Understanding the challenges abandoned animals face, the Haven team immediately provided Radio with a nurturing environment where he could thrive. Throughout each day, the compassionate team restored his trust in humanity and helped him overcome his fears.
Now living a life of joy and fulfillment, Allison has blossomed into an inseparable companion for Codi. Whether cuddling up after a long day or providing a listening ear during challenging times, Allison’s unwavering love and support make every moment brighter. Together, they explore the world, creating countless memories filled with laughter, adventures, and an unbreakable bond.
One fateful day, Radio’s path crossed with his forever family as they stepped inside The Haven. Their hearts were instantly drawn to his charismatic appeal. It was a match made in heaven as if Radio had been waiting for them all along. Radio and his new owners connected instantly; they knew they had found their right companion. Now settled in his loving home, Radio spends his days basking in the warm rays of the sun alongside his newfound dog pal – a testament to the happiness that radiates from within him. With every wag of his tail and playful bark, Radio reminds us of shelter animals’ incredible resilience and love. Radio’s transformation serves as a powerful reminder of the positive impact animal shelters have on countless lives. His story stands as a testament to the dedication and unwavering compassion of shelter staff and volunteers. Their tireless efforts transform scared puppies like Radio into confident and loving companions.

While volunteering for a rescue group in Illinois, Chris witnessed the efforts of local rescue groups who attended weekend events, trying to raise money to save innocent lives. It didn’t take long for her to realize these one-time, substantial donations weren’t enough. This realization is what inspired her to become a monthly donor.
When Chris relocated to Alabama, she and her husband adopted a dog from The Haven shortly after becoming a volunteer and donor. “It was obvious The Haven had a structure and staff who cared for the dogs and cats they rescued. I knew if they had a monthly donation, it would allow them to save even more homeless pets,” said Chris.
Luke Day, an annual event held by Next Home Gulf Coast Living, is a remarkable display of unity and compassion. This year’s event focuses on raising donations of pet food to support struggling pet owners in our community.
Understanding the importance of regular funding, Chris became a monthly donor. By pledging a consistent contribution, she provided The Haven with security. This freedom allows The Haven to expand its rescue operations even more. Every monthly donation contributes to turning abandoned animals into treasured family members.
The goal is to ensure no pet owner has to face the heartbreaking decision of choosing between their own well-being and their pets. The event also seeks to encourage empathy and understanding within the community by highlighting the importance of pets in our lives.
Chris’s contributions make an immeasurable difference at The Haven. Her consistent support ensures the shelter can save more animals by providing them with medical attention, rehabilitation, and love. A monthly donor like Chris embodies compassion.
