Hanover College is a challenging and supportive community whose members take responsibility for lifelong inquiry, transformative learning and meaningful service.

From the President

Dear alumni and friends,

Every year at our all-campus meeting, we take time to celebrate the accomplishments of our colleagues, as well as our community’s shared, collective success. Despite the many challenges of the past few years, I am proud to report that Hanover College continues to stand above, thanks to our resilient students, our committed and innovative employees, and you, our loyal and ever-generous donors, volunteers, and advocates.

With your help, we continued to invest in the people, programming, and places that contribute to every student’s undergraduate journey of transformative learning. As a result, we completed several enhancements to student dorms and academic buildings, finalized a new $250,000 multimedia studio in the Center for Fine Arts, secured accreditation for our growing engineering program, developed the Templeton Social Justice Leadership Program, and much, much more.

We are also broadening our impact and reach as we onboard high demand graduate programs. Over 170 students are now enrolled in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program, the Doctor of Occupational Therapy program will launch in 2024, and READI grant funding from the State of Indiana has allowed us to move forward with preparations for the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program.

We continued to make strides toward becoming an even more welcoming place to belong for all students, employees, alumni, and friends. Some of these changes are visible, including enhanced physical spaces for the Haq Multicultural Center and the LGBTQ Center. Others are woven into our day-to-day work, such as our partnership with the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville to provide programming for our first year students and training in diversity, equity, and inclusion for our employees. Finally, our alumni and donors continued to be significant partners in carrying out our mission. In 2022 we launched the Nichols Lifetime Inquiry Series, a new program aimed at connecting faculty and alumni through opportunities for lifelong inquiry. Hundreds of alumni served as mentors, guest speakers, and department advisors over the past year.

And perhaps most gratifying, the percentage of alumni who financially supported HANOVER REACHED 20%!

Your support of and engagement with our mission allowed our students to experience a year of supportive community and personal growth. As always, I am humbled, honored, and deeply grateful for your ongoing generosity.

Fellow Hanoverians,

As we move beyond the epidemic and look forward to the future, I am excited about Hanover College and its next century. In four years, we will celebrate our Bicentennial. Please take a moment to let that register. For almost two centuries, this beacon of knowledge that stands above the Ohio River has attracted thousands to its campus for its renowned educational opportunities. There is much to celebrate. Our next century rests on the pillars of the College’s strategic plan. The six goals associated with it are measurable and impactful. They create the foundation for another hundred years of developing young people into leaders in their fields and in their communities. There is much to do to get us ready for the next century.

Your contributions facilitate our ability to prepare for the next one hundred years. Through your generosity, you directly impact our students—today and tomorrow. You are the bridge between the past, present, and future. We value your support, and we praise you as partners in our mission. There is much for which to be grateful.

I am optimistic about Hanover’s future. This optimism is borne out of the quality of our students and listening to their aspirations; from the Trustees’ unwavering commitment to the College’s mission; and, because of President Lambert and his team’s vision for the College.

Before I close, I want to share that I am honored to be elected Chair of the Board. While I may be the first female to hold this position, I am sure I won’t be the last. It is a mantle that I accept with the conviction that we, together, will see Hanover thrive well into its next century. I thank you for your commitment and for your generosity.

Giving and Engagement AT A GLANCE

Annual gifts and volunteer involvement from alumni and friends continue to be invaluable to our students’ success. Private support allows the College to provide scholarships and financial assistance to students, attract and retain high quality faculty, and create experiences in and out of the classroom that contribute to holistic development and a robust campus environment.

“As an incoming first year, I was terrified of college. But I wanted it to be a new start. I wanted to get to know as many people as I could and find an active, fun and supportive campus community. And by the end of Hanover’s August Experience week, I knew that I had found the perfect college for me.”

A biochemistry major with an art minor, Katie can just as easily be found in the lab as the art studio. If not there, try the lacrosse field, the Hanover College drumline, or perhaps the stage, where she engages with improvisational comedy with fellow students in Evil Petting Zoo.

Manny Otchere-Danso ’25

Originally from Ghana, Manny is a first-generation student who is committed to making the most out of his Hanover College experience while serving others: “My passion is people. I enjoy helping, talking … really anything that has to do with people.”

As a Benjamin Templeton Scholar, Manny has numerous opportunities to engage with other service-oriented students and he is rounding out his journey as a member of the football team, Student Senate, Black Student Union, and Phi Gamma Delta. He is also the founder of Brothers2Brothers, which aims to promote diversity and focus on supporting positive growth and development.

Cara Stanback ’22

As a self-proclaimed shy kid from Indianapolis, Cara Stanback found a place to become involved, lead, and express herself at Hanover. From mentoring and advising first year students to performing with the choir in Bulgaria, Cara has discovered several ways to serve and make her mark on campus and beyond. As a member of Alpha Delta Pi and President of the Hanover College Dance Team, she has contributed to and benefited from community. Now, with a double major in music and psychology, she continues her journey as a participant in the Disney World College Program and an aspiring event planner.

Keegan Marx ’23

Keegan came to Hanover in the fall of 2019 to play soccer and swim. In the years since, he has discovered a passion for geology and explored the Grand Canyon during spring term, joined Lambda Chi Alpha and served as its President during the 30th Anniversary of Wiffle Ball, and helped the Men’s Soccer team reach the NCAA Sweet Sixteen for the first time in school history. Known for his love of the outdoors, Keegan serves as a member of the Grounds Crew at Hanover, where he can frequently be found mowing the Quad or tending to a garden. He secured and completed an internship in Mining Geology at APAC Shears last summer.

Wilda Knecht ’17

In her role as Assistant Director of International Student Services, Wilda has the opportunity to walk alongside students from the moment they express interest in Hanover College to the moment they graduate … and everything in between! “My role here is to make sure our campus is truly a home away from home for our international students, DACA students, and refugee students.”

In addition to traveling abroad to recruit the best and brightest students from around the globe, Wilda ensures that once students arrive, they are fully supported in acclimating to a new culture and provided the skills needed to thrive.

Morgan Rumple Whiting ’13

Equipped with a major in international studies and a minor in gender studies, Morgan stepped off campus and out into the world ready to live the Hanover College mission of meaningful service. In 2020, she received the Distinguished Young Alumni Award in recognition of her work with communities impacted by HIV/AIDS, survivors of sexual and domestic violence, and victims of human trafficking.

Today, she serves on the Hanover College Young Alumni Committee to ensure recent graduates have opportunities to engage with the College, and she leads diversity, equity, and inclusion training for current employees, to ensure campus remains a safe place for all student populations.

Edwin Nartey ’15

“The small campus community coupled with faculty who were not only interested in my academic success but also my personal growth played a huge role in where I currently find myself professionally.”

As Data Strategy Lead in Marquee Sales for Goldman Sachs, Edwin has put his computer science major and experience in the Business Scholars Program to full and good use. And he ensures that current students have the same opportunities, both as an annual donor and as a young alumni member of the Hanover College Board of Trustees.

Dustin Bailey, Ph.D.

As the inaugural member of the “Highlighting Hanover” series, Professor Bailey is known among students and colleagues as one of the community’s most committed and supportive members. “My work is a passion. I gain a lot of personal satisfaction in the preparation of new teachers, but also in guiding Hanover faculty . . . This is a special place.”

Whether he’s engaging with education majors in the classroom or leading faculty in assessing and enhancing the liberal arts curriculum, he is ensuring Hanover College remains a place where students can prepare today and tomorrow.
