TEAMS

Whether you’re managing a $10,000 project or a billion dollar program, it means coordinating, communicating, scheduling, and maintaining focus. You need to have the unique ability to do both: get into the nuts and bolts as well as step back to take a macro view. The Master of Science in Project Management program at the George Washington University School of Business blends the study of advanced project management techniques with general management principles. The innovative, ethics-infused curriculum balances real-world practice and academic theory, developing the skills managers need to integrate complex projects, motivate people, and achieve cost-effective results.

Learn on campus in Washington, D.C., or wherever it’s convenient for you. We recognized early on that most MSPM students are in the workforce and often unable to attend classes at our Washington, D.C., campus. We offer courses in the evenings to help students who live and work nearby. But for more than 15 years we’ve also been bringing the MSPM program to students through our distance learning option. This means you can pursue this degree from virtually any location in the country or around the world. You can also do it on a full or part-time basis.

Our students reflect the universal need for skilled project management—they represent a wide variety of professions and educational backgrounds, and come to GWSB from all over the world. MSPM Capstone Projects The Capstone experience prepares you to step into your particular field armed with pragmatic skills and applied experience. Whether you’re an on-campus or distance learner, the Capstone course—Project Management Applications—immerses you in realistic situations where your entire course of study will be brought to bear. Students complete three major team and individual Capstone requirements: • C reation of an actual project management handbook • Case study analysis of a “failed” project • Best practices comparison

Since enrolling in the MSPM program, my career has benefited greatly. Since that time, I was promoted to a Sr. Project Manager and now to the Manager of our Project Management Office. GWU’s MSPM program, and its focus on the quantitative aspects of project management, has truly positioned me for the requirements of my new position. KATHI PHILLIPS, PMP® IT PMO Branch Chief, Information Technology Army & Air Force Exchange Service MSPM Student, Class of 2013

Previous students have produced handbooks for managing U.N.-assisted elections, launching renewable energy ventures, and establishing a School of Project Management. Distance learning students present their final work during an intensive, one-week residency at the end of the semester before graduation.

The defense of the Capstone course work proved to be the best application of project management principles I have experienced in my career. HOMAYOUN (NOMI) NOURI, PMP® MSPM Student, Class of 2013

of study that combines both distance and on-campus learning. Our online and on-campus courses share the same professors, lectures, projects and assignments, and university resources.

The distance mode includes: COURSE CAPTURE: Campus lectures are recorded through advanced course capture technology and made available within three hours to all students via Blackboard or iTunesU. Students can conveniently watch course lectures on their own time. VIRTUAL CLASSROOMS: Professors hold an optional but highly recommended live virtual class session each week, where students have the opportunity to interact with peers and professors. BLACKBOARD: Tests, assignments, and communications are managed virtually through Blackboard for campus and distance courses. CAMPUS VISITS: All students attend a mandatory orientation on campus at the beginning of the program, where they have a chance to meet their new peers. Students who complete the Capstone course in the distance mode return to campus for a residency at the end of the program.
