Jeff Field School Trustee

I am writing today at the suggestion of a community member to connect with the community in my role as a school trustee. Many people may know me as a former teacher at PHSS or as the “ wood guy’’, but not as a school trustee. I am one of seven trustees for School District # 85, Vancouver Island North. As well I am one of three trustees who represent zone one which includes Port Hardy, the Tri-Bands, Coal Harbour and other small communities such as Holberg. We have four schools in this zone; namely, Eagleview, Eke Mi-Li, Fort Rupert, and PHSS. You can access information about the school district on our website at www.sd85.bc.ca. The website also contains links to all the schools. Last year the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that the former provincial government’s action in stripping the teachers’ collective agreement was unconstitutional, and the stripped language regarding class size and composition has been restored. This means that we have hired fourteen additional teachers. If you have a child in one of our schools I hope that this will help to improve the quality of education they will be receiving this school year.
