Yo Wiksas everyone Happy New Year! All the best to you in 2017. The Elder's Program is back up and running. I was away sick for a week at the beginning. I would like to thank Elizabeth for filling in for me while I was away from the office. The Elders enjoyed the lunch and Monday Blues breakfast you hosted for them. So again, thank you very much for doing that. The Elders are catering today for Chief & Council. There will be a number of info workshops with Leslie, our Chairman of the Hi'li'gam. Tomorrow there will be one held at the Elder's Centre starting at 1pm. There will be a Cultural Workshop hosted by Wade Charlie here at the Elder's Centre on Wednesday. Lunch will be served as per usual. The beginning of that 3 day workshop starts today at the Wakas hall. Please feel free to go and check it out. Movie nights will be on Fridays at 1pm. If you have a request for an old film to watch, please call me at the office and I will do my very best to see that we can get a copy of it.

Have a good day folks, Gilakasla Silena George Elder's Program Administrator (250) 949 7406 silena1314@gmail.com

Owning a pet is a privilege, but the benefits of pet ownership come with responsibilities. Be a Responsible Pet Owner:

1. Commit  Avoid impulsive decisions when selecting a pet.  Select a pet that’s suited to your home and lifestyle.  Keep only the type and number of pets for which you can provide appropriate food, water, shelter, health care and companionship.  Commit to the relationship for the life of your pet(s).  Provide appropriate exercise and mental stimulation.  Properly socialize and train your pet. 2. Invest  Recognize that pet ownership requires an investment of time and money.  Make sure your pet receives preventive health care (vaccinations, parasite control, etc.), as well as care for any illnesses or injuries.  Budget for potential emergencies. 3. Obey  Clean up after your pet.  Obey all local ordinances, including licensing, leash requirements and noise control.  Don't allow your pet to stray or become feral. 4. Identify  Make sure your pet is properly identified (i.e., tags, microchips, or tattoos) and keep its registration upto-date. 5. Limit  Don't contribute to our nation's pet over-population problem: limit your pet's reproduction through spay/neuter, containment or managed breeding. 6. Prepare  Prepare for an emergency or disaster, including assembling an evacuation kit.  Make alternate arrangements if you can no longer provide care for your pet.  Recognize any decline in your pet's quality of life and make timely decisions in consultation with a veterinarian. For more information on how to care for your animals, ask for help or report a problem please contact Elizabeth Greenberg @ 250-230-2675
