PRODUCTION LOGISTICS AT ITS BEST Industry solution: Automotive

INTELLIGENT IN-HOUSE LOGISTICS Many companies outsource logistical processes in order to devote their full attention to their core competencies. At Bosch Mahle Turbo Systems (BMTS), we took the opposite approach: We have integrated our logistics experts directly into BMTS’s factory production, thereby enabling seamless processes for the customer.

AT A GLANCE:

BMTS

Bosch Mahle Turbo Systems (BMTS) was founded in 2008 and is a joint venture of Robert Bosch GmbH and MAHLE GmbH. It develops, produces, and sells exhaust gas turbochargers for cars and commercial vehicles. Nearly 900 people are employed at its locations in Stuttgart, Blaichach, St. Michael (Austria), and Shanghai (China).

THE CHALLENGE

THE CHALLENGE BMTS was looking for a logistics partner to produce its exhaust gas turbochargers efficiently. The development of production logistics played a key role here, in addition to the high technical requirements in the assembly process. The challenge: ● Supporting the start-up of the plant and then handling dayto-day business in a cost-effective way ● Setting up and integrating a completely new production process with the associated IT systems in close consultation with BMTS ● Integrating GW employees in the factory production

THE SOLUTION

THE SOLUTION BMTS focuses on producing the turbochargers. GW ensures that the required quantity of individual components arrive on the production line in time. The services at a glance: ● Inspection of incoming goods in the external main warehouse ● Delivery of goods to the BMTS factory via shuttle express ● Appropriate picking of the components for production as well as, in return, disposal of packaging and empty containers (“milk run concept”) including cleaning ● Transportation of the finished exhaust gas turbochargers to BMTS’s customers

THE BENEFITS

THE BENEFITS Rapid response times – around the clock A total of 90 Gebrüder Weiss employees are integrated in the production process, working in shifts around the clock. This guarantees the highest degree of flexibility and rapid response times.

Reduction in expenses through effective outsourcing BMTS has substantially cut its management expenses by handing its operational logistics to Gebrüder Weiss. The “milk run” concept ensures an uninterrupted supply to the production line with considerably less internal transportation work. BMTS has an overview of all relevant KPIs at all times thanks to the continuous exchange of information.
