My first impression of Nottingham:

When students arrive to a new place there are many things that capture their attention, some positive, negative or just different to the ones they are used to. These may end up having an influence in their experience for the whole length of it, becoming an active element of their memory, but sometimes there are so many things in our minds that we miss the opportunity to get hold of them and most importantly: to use them!!
We invited Master students to graphically capture one of them, the first, the most relevant and record and process it in order to “retain� it, through the production of a postcard, becoming a STATEMENT of their arrival to Nottingham.
The approach to identify this first impression could have been based on a place, an object or a feeling, using their observation capacity and all the senses. These impressions always generate various types of recordings (images, picked up elements, different points of view, time of the day, etc) that will require a degree of organisation, hierarchy and synthesis, in order to produce a single representative image. This was the main objective of the exercise: to learn, train and improve the use of analogue and digital means of recording, compilation and presentation.
