PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT

Combining chemical ambition with care for the environment is one of our most important objectives Today, construction processes have environmental impacts on all levels: energy consumption, waste production, etc. Moreover, many products being used for building, maintenance or cleaning remain aggressive and sometimes harmful to people and the environment. From the very start Guard Industry has adopted an approach of sustainable development.

An eco-design approach Guard Industry supplies products that respect the environment:

• Formulated in aqueous phase • Over 90% biodegradable (according to OECD norms) • Low in VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) • Solvent-free / Silicone-free • Non-toxic / Non-hazardous • Non-flammable

Energy-saving products Our products are exceptionally long-lasting: they last approximately three times longer than competitor products For instance, our unique expertise enables us to offer a 10 year warranty for water repellency to our main ProtectGuard range. That means structures protected with Guard products have an enhanced life cycle, and remain as new and clean for significantly longer period. As a consequence Guard products reduce water usage and the need for chemical products during renovation and maintenance operations.

A strong social commitment In order to raise the collective awareness among the players within industry regarding challenges and sustainable development, Guard Industry has consistently valued the development, marketing and distribution of green technology.

Guard Industry is a member of the Club ADEME International. ProtectGuard® received the 2008 "eco-friendly award". ProtectGuard® causes less negative impact on the environment throughout its life cycle than other products, while retaining a high level of performance. Guard Remover® Eco Efflorescence & Cement was awarded the "2012 idea award". Guard Remover® Eco Efflorescence & Cement was selected for its high efficiency and its low impact on the environment.

PROTECTION

The ProtectGuard® range offers the best preventive solution to major causes of degradation associated with porous building materials Water Seepage • Porosity causes materials to be subject to water ingress that causes degradation, erosion and staining… The ProtectGuard® range is formulated with penetrating products that make the surface being treated impermeable to all water penetration, specifically driving rain. • The treatment of a material requires product saturation within the complete surface fabric. ProtectGuard® penetrates all pores thus eliminating negative effects caused by humidity. In turn this prevents degradation due to continuous ‘freezethaw’ cycles. In addition the re-appearance of efflorescence and saltpetre is prevented. It also retards continuous erosion. The protection offered by ProtectGuard® significantly enhances a material’s lifecycle.

Pollution • Industrial air-carrying pollutants, exhaust gas and acid rain are continually aggressive towards building materials, and will reduce surface resistance over time. • ProtectGuard®, with its water-repellent and oil-repellent properties, delivers resistance and protection to these threats. Protectguard makes a materials surface more resistant to atmospheric pollution and thus reducing the need for remedial work whilst ongoing cleaning processes becomes easier. • A façade or roof treated with ProtectGuard® becomes virtually self-washable; rain alone will remove most soiling.

Greasy Soiling • Greasy stains (oil, cooking fats…) both penetrate and settle on floors, thus affecting their appearance. With its anti-stain and anti-adhesion properties, ProtectGuard® prevents the penetration of greasy stains, delays clogging, and greatly facilitates maintenance. ProtectGuard® is recommended for the protection of pedestrian zones, pavements and terraces, plus also for roofs subject to pollution.

Graffiti • Nowadays, the proliferation of graffiti can be a leading cause in the deterioration of facade surfaces. • Often targeted, new or recently renovated building structures should be protected as soon as possible. • The ProtectGuard® range offers anti-graffiti protection. ProtectGuard® creates a barrier that prevents deep penetration of ink and paint pigments into porous materials. Once a material is treated, graffiti can be more easily removed with antigraffiti products from the GraffiGuard® range.

Chewing Gum • The ProtectGuard® range, and especially ProtectGuard® HD, is ideal for protection against chewing gums. Its anti-adhesion properties prevent chewing gum from penetrating the substrate, therefore making removal and cleaning easier.

Moss, Lichens, Fungi… • ProtectGuard® restricts the formation of micro-organisms such as moss, lichens and fungi. It is the best solution for the protection of building materials in damp and humid environments (roofs, terraces, alleys, junctures, etc.).

06

ProtectGuard® DTOX is an innovative product which combine water-repellent, oil-repellent, anti-graffiti and pollutionremoving properties. ProtectGuard® DTOX offers long-lasting protection against water, atmospheric pollution, grease-type staining, penetration of liquids and graffiti. A material treated with ProtectGuard® DTOX becomes virtually self-cleaning and will be easier to maintain. ProtectGuard® DTOX uses photocatalytic action to remove pollutants present in outdoor air. Under the action of UV light, ProtectGuard® DTOX breaks down most pollutants (VOCs, bacteria, exhaust fumes, etc.). Air is therefore purified. ProtectGuard® DTOX is a non film-forming impregnation product that leaves the treated surface permeable to air and water vapour. ProtectGuard® DTOX is completely colourless after application and does not change the appearance or the composition of the treated surface. It is also UV-resistant and does not discolor with age.

Ideal for treating: • Facades, walls, roofs… • New and renovated buildings. • Outdoors porous materials (stone, concrete, brick, render…).

ProtectGuard® DTOX offers long-lasting protection against water, dirt, grease, graffiti and pollution. It limits the harmful effects of moisture (erosion, efflorescence or surface salts, growth of micro-organisms, frost damage etc.) and slows the build-up of grime on materials.

DEPOLLUTION ®

ProtectGuard DTOX uses photocatalytic action to remove pollutants present in outdoor air and break down organic pollution. It contains titanium dioxide (TiO2) which acts as a catalyst. Under the action of UV light, titanium dioxide is activated. It breaks down most pollutants and organic contamination which causes grime on buildings: industrial pollution, exhaust fumes, moss, algae, mould, oils and greases, etc. These organic pollutants are then converted into water vapour and carbon dioxide. From the properties of TiO2, and from internationally conducted laboratory tests, the evidence suggests that the following breakdown percentages can be achieved: 95% of NOX, 85% of VOC s, 90% of traditional pollutants (acetone, acetaldehyde, toluene, heptane).

SELF-CLEANING SURFACES Thanks to the product’s water- and oil-repellent properties, dirt cannot cling to the surface and is washed off by the rain. Surfaces thus become self-cleaning.

APPLICATION EQUIPMENT • Brush, roller, low pressure spray unit.

APPLICATION Substrate preparation: • Substrates must always be clean, dust free and dry. In case of soiling or pollution stains use Guard Cleaner® Eco Polluted Facades. In case of efflorescence or cement residues use Guard Remover® Eco Efflorescence & Cement.

ImperGuard® CP is a ready-to-use product developed specifically to reduce the corrosion of concrete frameworks. • Curative: it remedies and stops existing corrosion on concrete structures (max corrosion rate of 5 microns/cm²).The corrosion rate can change with humidity, quantity of chloride. • Preventative: Metal reinforcement in contact with humidity and chlorides (de-icing salts, etc.) oxidise, resulting in expansion which cracks the concrete and weakens the mechanical strength of the material components. Unlike other corrosion inhibitors, ProtectGuard® CP penetrates deeply into concrete (up to 6 centimetres) and thus blocks humidity and chlorides. It is also effective with micro-cracks (up to 0.3 mm). It provides strength and durability which reduces repairs to structures. ProtectGuard® CP’s exceptional water-repellent properties makes it effective in preventing water penetration and therefore eradicates the harmful effects caused by humidity (ingress, acid rain, erosion, freeze/thaw cycles, moss and lichen growing, efflorescence, carbonation…).

of inside floors.

36

Besides clear water and oil repellent protection, some projects need colour. Colour is used either to make uniform and correct the aesthetic appearance of materials or decorate whilst at the same time retaining the mineral look of the treated surface. To meet the needs and requirements of applicators and architects, Guard Industry has developed a specific formulation of its ProtectGuard® range of products. This new technology combines ProtectGuard®’s excellent protection properties and mineral pigments and therefore provides long-lasting protection and decoration. These products are not coatings. They are impregnation, non film-forming products: the substrate remains permeable to air and water vapour. Contrary to a paint that covers materials, they are semitransparent products that respect the materials’ mineral properties. These products comprise 42 standard colours and 8 ‘special effects’ colours including metallic or iridescent effects. According to the client’s needs and for specific projects, Guard Industry can create personalized shades.

DECORATE & PROTECT

PATENTED TECHNOLOGY #04011391 on 12-02-2004

Beading effect

Water-repellent, oil-repellent, anti-soiling

A treatment that protects, decorates and embellishes porous building materials

• PROTECTION AGAINST WATER, CHLORIDES AND OIL • ANTI-STAINING & SOILING • HOMEGENISES AND COLOURS SURFACES • 50 STANDARD SHADES + 3 OPAQUENESS RATINGS • AVAILABLE IN FLAT OR GLOSSY FINISH • RESPECTS A MATERIAL’S MINERALITY • DELAYS CLOGGING AND AGING • NON-FILM FORMING, ALLOWS THE SUBSTRATE TO BREATHE • UV RESISTANCE • WALLS & FACADES • INTERIOR & EXTERIOR • NEW WORKS OR REFURBISHMENT

38

With its water-repellent, oil-repellent and anti-soiling properties, ProtectGuard® Color offers total protection of porous construction substrates. It prevents most common causes of degradation such as water, oil, atmospheric pollution and all types of soiling. It gives the treated surface a uniform shaded colouring. This thus ensures the longevity of the treated surfaces. ProtectGuard® Color is not a coating. It is a protective treatment in aqueous phase specifically suited for concrete (even fresh concrete with a high pH) and mineral render. The treatment’s semi-transparency respects the material’s mineral properties. The finished colour is dependent on both the colour of ProtectGuard® Color and the background colour of the surface. ProtectGuard® Color can be used to either modify the surface colour or to homogenise a surface’s appearance. ProtectGuard® Color is non-film forming. The substrate remains permeable to air and water vapour. ProtectGuard® Color provides excellent resistance to aging and UV.

ProtectGuard® Color: The aesthetic solution for all surfaces. ProtectGuard® Color is used to make uniform and correct the aesthetic appearance of porous substrates: concrete, single-layer coating, porous natural stone, and composite stones. ProtectGuard® Color can be applied to newly laid concrete, or older works (it is very resistant to alkaline environments), on vertical and horizontal (ceilings) substrates, both indoors and outdoors.

DECORATE & PROTECT

Homogenises the appearance of a material’s surface

Gives a new aesthetic dimension to projects ProtectGuard® Color: The ideal solution to embellish material surfaces. ProtectGuard® Color is a decorative product that adds value to architectural creation without changing the mineral properties. ProtectGuard® Color enables designers to give an aesthetic dimension to art work with the possibility to ‘play’ with matt or gloss colour finishing, and even special effects (metal, pearlescence, iridescent). Guard Industry helps those specifying or using ProtectGuard® Color to be specific with colour which is affected by the condition of the substrate and the desired finish (colorimetric colouration, decorative creation, refurbishment).

39

DECORATE & PROTECT

ProtectGuard® Color system: bespoke colouring The ProtectGuard® Color colour chart includes 42 standard colours and 8 ‘special’ colours. A standard colour has an opacity index of 100. Guard Industry can alter those colours and offer a higher or lower level of opacity (50% or 10%), while yet keeping the same protection properties. The final colour of a treated substrate will always be the combination of the treatment colour and the colour of the

A 3-stage system: colouration + protection + maintenance.

An attractive and protective finish for concrete floors

• DECORATES FLOORS • PROTECTION AGAINST WATER AND OIL • ANTI-STAINING/ ANTI-SOILING • IMPREGNATION SYSTEM; DOES NOT CREATE A COATING • ALLOWS THE SUBSTRATE TO BREATHE • DELAYS DECAYING AND AGING • INTERIOR FLOORS • NEW WORKS OR REFURBISHMENT

46

Guard Industry, a leader in the field of material care, has developed Decorative Concrete Guard®, a unique system combining aesthetics, reliability and ease of application.

The floor surfaces to be treated need to be subject to light traffic only (i.e. no intensive traffic such as vehicles…). Decorative Concrete Guard® is therefore ideal for colouring and protecting with a waxed look the floors of offices, entrance halls and the floors of homes.

Product code: 9920

DECORATE & PROTECT

STAGE 1 COLOURATION

IMPREGNATION TINTING PRODUCT. Decorative Concrete Guard® Color is a semi-transparent decorative product which is uniformly absorbed into the fabric of the concrete surface without modifying the texture or the mineral effect of the substrate. Its unique acrylic and silicate based formulation facilitates the excellent penetration and setting of the colours. Available in a wide range of colours, Decorative Concrete Guard® Color allows you to give concrete floors and screeds an attractive facelift, enabling you to "experiment" with traditional shades as well as modernistic aluminium finishes. With Decorative Concrete Guard® Color, you can let your imagination run wild as you create patina, shaded and watered effects… or more uniform finishes. Decorative Concrete Guard® Color enables the color to be modified but does not correct defects of the subtrate (roughness, unevennesss…).

Product code: 9930

STAGE 2 PROTECTION

PROVIDES LONG-TERM PROTECTION AGAINST WATER AND SOILING. Decorative Concrete Guard® Protect protects floors against water penetration, greasy or oily stains and day-to-day soiling (wine, oil, coffee…). Treatment also delays the onset of further long term soiling of a floor surface and ensures its upkeep is significantly easier. Decorative Concrete Guard® Protect is an impregnation product allowing the substrate to breathe. Decorative Concrete Guard® Protect delivers a semi gloss finish to the treated surface, as well as bringing up the true colour. It is also UV-resistant and does not discolor with time.

Product code: 9940

STAGE 3 MAINTENANCE

PROTECTION AND MAINTENANCE WAX. Decorative Concrete Guard® Finish is a finishing wax designed for floor maintenance. It is an acrylic emulsion modified with metal ions to create a high resistance wearing product. Decorative Concrete Guard® Finish helps regaining that brand-new appearance for the waxed concrete surface and keeping it clean for far longer. When diluted in water, Decorative Concrete Guard® Finish wax also enables small scratches to be filled.

TREATMENT

RISING DAMP

Treats humidity problems: consolidates and dries walls

• PREVENTS RISING DAMP IN THE BASE OF WALLS

Guard Hardener® RD mineralizes, hardens and consolidates materials by stopping humidity, rising damp and crumbling problems.

• REMEDIES DAMP AND SALTPETRE PROBLEMS

Guard Hardener® RD is a product for treating humidity in walls, rising damp, efflorescence and surface salts. It dries and consolidates friable substrates damaged by intrusion of water and damp. It therefore mitigates problems of rising damp.

• CONSOLIDATES AND CRYSTALLISES MATERIALS • TREATMENT BY INJECTION • WALLS AND FACADES • INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR

52

Guard Hardener® RD is applied by injection into walls. Very dense, Guard Hardener® RD uses water as a vehicle and makes use of it to harden and mineralize to create a waterproof barrier that will prevent any rising damp.

Can be used: • Indoors and out of doors wherever once-for-all drying is required. Ideal for treating: • All mineral surfaces such as cement, concrete, natural stone, brick...

1. Hardens/consolidates and crystallises Guard Hardener® WO is a product for consolidating inorganic, porous, poorly cohesive materials. It can also be used for restoring old monuments, fountains, cornices, and statuary in natural stone. Guard Hardener® WO remedies the principal causes of deterioration of materials such as freeze/thaw cycles and acid rain, damage due to salts (crystallisation, hydration and hygroscopy), expansion and contraction of the material, modification of the structure of limestone carbonate under the action of CO2-containing water, colonisation by cryptogamic agents (moss, lichen etc.), use of excessively alkaline cleaners and/or failure to rinse cleaners off... Guard Hardener® WO recreates the mineral crystalline network destroyed by one of the causes mentioned above, so that the treated substrate is reverted to its original mechanical properties, without any change to its appearance or to its gas permeability. 2.Water- and oil-repellent Guard Hardener® WO also has water- and oil-repellent properties that provide lasting protection for all porous materials against penetration by water, oil and stains of all kinds. Guard Hardener® WO slows the aging of substrates, facilitates their maintenance and prevents the main causes of deterioration such as atmospheric pollution, grease soiling, water intrusion, development of moss and lichens, etc.

Can be used on: • Indoors and outdoors, wherever materials need consolidating and protecting. • All porous and low porous materials such as: siliceous and carbonate rocks, concrete, cement, bricks, terracotta, slate etc.

TREATMENT

Product code: 7000

For increased safety! A simple application makes mineral surfaces lower slip when wet

SAY NO TO HIGH SLIP SURFACES! • WATER-BASED PRODUCT • EFFICIENT IN ONE APPLICATION • NON CORROSIVE • NON IRRITATING • LONG LASTING EFFECT • DOES NOT MODIFY SUBSTRATE COMPOSITION

Guard Slip Resistant® is a revolutionary product. Many anti-slip products available in the market generally use hydrofluoric acid (hydrogen fluoride), in differing concentrations. This is an extremely corrosive acid that dissolves silica found in all mineral materials. When a hydrofluoric acid-based product is applied to a substrate, the silica crystals are dissolved, which creates a pitted surface that will produce a suction effect (drawing 2).The inconvenience of this process is the need to handle hazardous materials that significantly alter the substrate’s appearance by encouraging dirt, given that the pitted surface quickly fills with oil and dust.

• INTERIOR & EXTERIOR • NEW WORKS OR REFURBISHMENT

1 - Non-treated substrate

2 - Substrate treated with hydrofluoric acid

3 - Substrate treated with Guard Slip Resistant®

Guard Slip Resistant® uses the silica found in materials, but, unlike other products, it produces a chemical reaction that will schematically graft new molecules on those already existing in the substrate (drawing 3).This results in a better and longer lasting anti-slip effect that only slightly changes the surface appearance.

58

To use on: • All mineral substrates, both indoors and outdoors: ceramic tiles, concrete, terrazzo, granite, tiled floors, and enamel. Ideal to treat: • pedestrian zones, compounds, lobbies, retirement homes, gyms, swimming pools, kitchens, bathrooms, showers, enamel bathtubs, industrial environments… and everywhere with surfaces that become slippery when wet.

ECO-FRIENDLY PRODUCT • • • • • • • • •

water-based petroleum solvent-free no hydrochloric acid no phosphoric acid no citric acid over 90% biodegradable non-toxic non-hazardous non-flammable

• Silicon derivatives in an aquaeous phase. • VOC < 1 g/l

APPLICATION EQUIPMENT • Low pressure spray unit or hand sprayer.

PRECAUTIONS • Do not dilute or mix with another product. • Do not apply on organic, metallic and waterproof materials. • On certain substrates, the treatment can alter the gloss level. If the shine is affected, dilute Guard Slip Resistant® but leave to act for the same amount of time. • On certain types of marble, the treatment can be ineffective. In any event, test before applying. • Do not apply during rain, and when surface or air temperature is < 5°C or > 30°C. • Keep in a dry place (between 5°C and 30°C). • Storage: 24 months following the production date when kept in the original unopened container.

MAINTENANCE • Regularly maintain the anti-slip treatment by using Guard Slip Resistant® diluted (20% Guard Slip Resistant® with 80% water).

TREATMENT

CHEMICAL NATURE

Substrate preparation: • Substrates must always be clean, dustfree and dry. • To remove stains and dirt, use Guard Cleaner® Eco Soiled Floors. For efflorescence or concrete bloom, use Guard Remover® Eco Efflorescence & Cement Application: • Always test on a small hidden portion of the substrate before applying. • Do not dilute or mix with another product. • Shake the container well before use. • Spray the product uniformly onto the substrate. • Leave it to react for 40 < - >60 minutes. • Ensure that the product remains even on the whole surface during the treatment, and add more if necessary. Depending on the substrate and the desired anti-slip effect, repeat the process. • Do not allow any part of the surface, being treated to ‘dry’ because this would cause uneven treatment. • When the reaction time is completed, carefully rinse with water. The treated surface may be immediately returned into use. • Clean equipment with water immediately after use.

AFTER

• NONYLPHENOL-FREE, CHLORINE-FREE AND SOLVENT-FREE PRODUCT • CURATIVE AND PREVENTIVE TREATMENT • LONG LASTING PROTECTION • FLOORS, WALLS AND ROOFS • OUTDOORS

Efficient curative treatment providing, long-lasting protection. 1 Curative: Destroys all parasitic vegetation, which is then washed away by rain or light brushing. Guard Antimoss® destroys and inhibits micro-organisms (moss, lichen, algae, fungi, etc.) on all substrates with no restriction, such as: tile, slate, brick, concrete, stone, wood, composite materials, asphalt, cloth, etc. Guard Antimoss® does not alter the surface’s appearance, and does not turn yellow. It replaces common acid, chloride or alkaline-based detergents, all of which have negative effects on the substrate and the environment. Parasitic vegetation is destroyed by asphyxiation. Once destroyed, and thanks to the tensioactive components, they become easy to remove from the surface.

2 Prevention: The active components fix themselves in the substrate and prevent the germination of parasitic vegetation. Guard Antimoss® has residual effects that vary with location, and can last up to 2 to 3 years after application.
