Head Coach Warren Russ The 2011 season will be Head Coach Warren Russ’s fifth season at the helm of the Georgia Southwestern men’s soccer program. He is the second head coach in the history of the program, which began NCAA Division II play in 2006. Building a program from the ground up is part of Russ’s pedigree. He was an assistant at the University of Georgia (1995-2000) when the Bulldogs started their women’s soccer program beginning in 1995. In three short years, the Bulldogs made their first NCAA Tournament debut. The program followed up that milestone by advancing to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament the following season. Prior to his coaching stint in Athens, Russ spent four seasons as an assistant coach at his alma matter the University of Central Florida (1990-1994). Russ was also a four-year letter winner at UCF. Russ also has coaching experience outside of college soccer as well. His coaching career includes stints with the Florida Olympic Development program, Gwinnett Soccer Association and several high schools in Florida. In addition to his work on the sidelines, Russ spent ten years playing professionally with the Orlando Lions Soccer Club, South Carolina Shamrocks Professional Soccer Club and Wrexham Football Club in Wales. He has earned two League All-Star awards and played for clubs in a semifinal and two championship matches. Coach Warren Russ is a native of Coral Springs, Florida and earned his bachelor’s in Business AdministrationMarketing from UCF.
