Safety Safety is our first concern when girls are participating in the QSP Program. The most current Safety Activity Checkpoints can be found on the Resource tab of the Volunteer Toolkit (look for the Girl Scout Cookie/Council-Sponsored Product Sales checkpoint). Please review and share this information with your Girl Scouts and their families. General Information • All girls must be registered and have a signed Annual Consent Form on file with the troop leader before they participate in the QSP Program. • A parent, guardian, or other adult must know each girl’s whereabouts when she is participating in the QSP Program, including if and when she is utilizing tools found on the Internet. • Girls should be involved in goal setting, planning, and execution of the QSP Program for the troop. • Girls should always wear a Girl Scout Membership pin, Girl Scout vest or sash, or Girl Scout clothing to identify them as Girl Scouts when taking QSP orders and/or delivering QSP nut and candy products to customers. • Girls should not share their full name, phone number, address, or personal email address with customers who are not trusted family or friends. A group contact number or email address overseen by an adult should be used for customers to request information or place an additional order. • When using the Spread the Word business cards, they should be distributed ONLY to customers known to the girl and her family as the girl’s first and last name will be visible. Using the Internet Safely • Before using the Internet, girls must read, agree to, and sign the Girl Scout Internet Safety Pledge. A parent or guardian must also sign the pledge • Please refer to the Computer/Online Activities Safety Activity Checkpoint under the Safety Activity Checkpoints on the Resource tab of the Volunteer Toolkit. • A parent, guardian, or other adult must supervise girls when they are participating in any online activity relating to the QSP Program. • For girls younger than 13, parents are responsible for managing the girl’s QSP webpage and for all content. • Girls 13 and older may use social networking sites to market their product, but should sign with first names only, their troop number, or council name.     2

Safety first!

• Only social media sites that allow the user to restrict access to family and friends should be used to promote the QSP Program. Staying Safe in Your Neighborhood • Adults must accompany Girl Scout Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors when they are taking orders or delivering nut and candy product. • Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors who participate in door-to-door sales must inform an adult about where they will be when participating in the QSP Program. An adult should always be aware of where and when the girls are selling products, be able to contact girls in a timely manner, or be present with girls. • Girls should always use the buddy system. • Girls and adults should be familiar with the neighborhoods where they sell and should only participate in door-to-door sales during daylight hours. Girls should never enter the home of a stranger or approach an unknown vehicle. • Use safe pedestrian practices. • A plan to safeguard money during order taking should be made in advance. Girl Scout Daisies should not handle money. Girls should not carry large sums of money when taking orders. • Payment is collected at the time the order is placed.

New for 2017 EXTENDED selling period for online sales

The dates for the online store have been extended for Online Store cutomers to make purchases! The online store, which open until customers can access via a link in a QSP Program marketing email from a Girl Scout OR via a link posted by a girl/family on social media, will be operational until Sunday, November 12. This additional time will give girls the extra opportunity to reach their goals AND for customers to make last-minute purchases for holiday gifts and treats.

Nov 12

The online store will close ahead of the electronic payment withdrawal date (November 16), so all sales will be taken into account when calculating the amount the troop owes to council. NOTE: Paper order forms and nut and candy order cards must be turned in to the Troop QSP Manager no later than November 4 in order to ensure the items are ordered in time for delivery in late November/early December. REMEMBER: All sales—online AND in person—will help girls earn rewards AND troops earn proceeds to help fund their activities.

NEW Products for 2017

In addition to the large variety of nut and candy products, more than 600 magazine titles, and dozens of photo keepsake items offered through the QSP Program, this year’s program offers an expanded product line. The new products are: Organic vegetables: • Easy and fun-to-grow plants (eight varieties, including cucumbers and peppers) • Great troop activity tie-in to Girl Scout Journeys Tumblers • BPA-free plastic and stainless steel styles • 199+ college and designer options for customizing Scented Candles • Eight top-selling fragrances, including Homemade Gingerbread and Balsamic Fir • Candle labels unique for Girl Scouts

The new items are available exclusively in the online store. As with the other items purchased through the online store (magazines, nut and candy items, and photo keepsakes), these new items will ship directly to the customer for delivery within seven to 10 days.

NEW tie-in between the QSP and Cookie programs!

Girls and troops that participate and achieve in both product sale programs will be eligible to earn a one-of-a-kind patch PLUS additional proceeds in the cookie program! See page 11 for full information on the connection between these programs.

UNIFIED ordering system

nut-E and the QSP online store have been combined into one website. Say hello to Unify! This unified ordering system is where all QSP Program orders are entered and recorded. Instructions, which will include login and password information, and tutorials will be available on the QSP Volunteer Resources page at gsofct.org after September 15.

Electronic Payment (ACH) for the QSP Program Payment to council for the troop’s QSP Program will be through an electronic payment from the troop’s bank account. Troops must complete and submit an Electronic Payment (ACH) Authorization Form no later than October 27, 2017. The link to the form can be accessed from the QSP Volunteer Resources page at gsofct.org after September 15, 2017.

ACH withdrawal date:

Nov 16

NOTE: The authorization form needs to be submitted online. Submission via a computer or tablet (instead of a phone) is STRONGLY recommended. See page 13 for additional information about the electronic payment procedure.

New products and extended selling online = more opportunities for girls and troops!

Check out how girls AND troops benefit from the QSP Program!

Program Benefits The QSP Program—Quick, Simple, and Profitable—is an integral part of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience with financial literacy at its core. Girls who participate in the QSP Program not only earn money for their troop treasuries, but also learn skills that will help them be leaders in their own lives, in business, and in the world. How do troops benefit when girls participate in the QSP Program? Troops benefit by getting a head start on funding their treasuries so girls can enjoy great program activities they help choose. Members of the community know that purchasing items through the QSP Program helps support their local Girl Scout troops. Troop proceeds from the QSP Program are as follows: • 15 percent of total sales (magazine, nut and candy items, photo keepsakes, organic vegetable seed cups, customizable tumblers, and scented candles). • Junior, Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador troops may elect to take an additional 2 percent in troop proceeds (for a total of 17 percent) in place of individual girl rewards. Girls still receive all patches they have earned AND the troop is still eligible to earn the Troop Reward. • All troops earn $2 for each correctly completed address booklet. NOTE: Troops will NOT receive additional proceeds from sales by customers whose contact information was provided on an address booklet coupon.

How do girls benefit from participating in the QSP Program? This year’s program theme, Be Fearless: Unleash the Hero Inside, encourages girls to discover what their own super powers are when they practice the five essential skills of the QSP Program.

Skill

Real Life Application

Goal Setting

Setting personal goals teaches Girl Scouts the steps needed to achieve the goal AND the planning each step requires. Being able to set, achieve, and measure a goal’s outcome are important professional skills. Participating in a group decisionmaking process allows girls to learn what types of tasks they are good at and how their skills can contribute to successful outcomes. Beyond learning the basics of making change, Girl Scouts learn budgeting skills when they participate in decisions about how to use troop money to fund activities and projects. When girls participate in product sales programs, they learn to ask people they know AND don’t know for their support. These experiences translate into girls being able to advocate for themselves as they get older. Girl Scouts learn the importance of safeguarding money and delivering product in a timely manner. Understanding how to gain and keep the trust of others is a key life skill.

Decision Making

Money Management

The QSP Program also provides revenue to Girl Scouts of Connecticut, which is used to fund programming, leadership development opportunities, and trainings for girls and adults throughout the state. All Girl Scout members and their communities benefit from this important program.

People Skills

In addition, through the Share program, girls and their communities can help the American Red Cross, CT Chapter. For a fifth year, Girl Scouts of Connecticut is proud to offer customers an opportunity to purchase nut product to be donated to the American Red Cross, CT Chapter. See page 7 for more information on the Share program.

QSP Training for Girls Girls/families and troops are most successful in the QSP Program when the program is included as part of a troop meeting, and the what, how, and why of QSP are presented as fun and engaging for the girls. Help your girls/families get the most out of the QSP Program by covering the topics below. 1) Program Overview • Distribute girl packets. • Introduce the Be Fearless: Unleash the Hero Inside theme. • Discuss how the girls/families can help earn money for troop activities by participating. • Discuss the five skills of the QSP Program (page 4). • Discuss ways (in person or online) girls/families can reach out to customers. • Review the safety guidelines on page 2. • Review the program dates (order taking begins on October 1; nut and candy order cards and paper forms to be turned in no later than November 4, and online sales end on November 12). • More information about how girls can participate in the QSP Program can be found on pages 8–9 of this guide.

2) Learn about the products • Discuss the expanded product line for this year’s program — organic vegetable seed cups, customizable tumblers, and scented candles. • Show the nut and candy order card. Discuss how girls can offer and record purchases for the Share program on the order card. Let girls know additional varieties of nuts and candies are available online via the girl’s QSP webpage. • Show the magazine/photo keepsake catalog and paper order forms. Let girls know that magazines and photo keepsakes can also be ordered online via the girl’s QSP webpage. • Nut and candy items ordered on the order card will be available to pick up the first week in December. • Items ordered online will be shipped directly to the customer. • Magazines will be mailed to the customer directly from the publisher. • Customers will receive a redemption code via email (if email address is provided) for photo keepsake items. • More information about the nut and candy products can be found on page 12 of this guide.

3) Goals and Decision Making • Discuss the importance of each girl setting a goal and sharing the goal with family and friends. • Decide on a troop goal for the QSP Program. Examples of troop goals include number of products sold, a dollar amount for the total sale, or setting a number of people to ask to make a purchase. • Review the rewards displayed on the order card. If the troop is Junior level or older, decide if the troop is going to take the additional proceeds instead of individual girl rewards. • Girls should vote as to whether or not to take additional proceeds — majority rules. • Brownie and Daisy troops are required to select individual girl rewards.

4) Tips for a successful sale • Encourage the girls to share ideas about how to reach customers. • Encourage the girls to set up and personalize their QSP webpage. • Suggest girls use the Spread the Word business cards to encourage customers to visit the online store. • Discuss how girls/families can use social media to let friends and family know about the terrific QSP products. • Encourage girls to let customers know about the Share program (see page 7 in this guide). • IMPORTANT: Payment for in-person orders MUST be collected when the order is placed.

Tips for girls to get the most out of the QSP Program

Action Steps for Troop QSP Managers Preparing for the QSP Program

• All volunteers and girls must register for the 20172018 membership year. Troop QSP volunteers MUST be approved volunteers. If you are a new volunteer, complete the volunteer application process by visiting gsofct.org. • Complete Troop QSP Manager training. Check with your Service Unit QSP Manager regarding the in-person training and to arrange to pick up program material. A Troop QSP Manager training will be posted on the QSP Volunteer Resources page at gsofct.org by September 8, 2017. Review all girl and troop materials. • Distribute materials, set troop deadlines, and train girls/parents/guardians on the QSP Program. A training guide is on page 5. • Assist the girls in setting individual/troop goals. • Review Unify instructions. The instructions will be available on the QSP Volunteer Resources page at gsofct.org after September 15, 2017.

During the QSP Program

• Communicate regularly with girls and parents. Consider offering a new tip or suggestion for reaching customers or for talking with customers about products in each communication. • Let girls and families know you are available to answer questions and provide additional materials or assistance, if needed. • Use your Service Unit QSP Manager as a resource for questions or additional information. • IMPORTANT: An authorized signer on the troop bank account must submit an ACH authorization form NO LATER than Friday, October 27. This link can be accessed from the QSP Volunteer Resources page at gsofct.org after September 15, 2017. NOTE: Use of a computer or tablet (instead of a phone) to submit the form is STRONGLY recommended.

Collecting and Reviewing Girls’ Orders

For paper order forms: Check each order form for completeness, including: • Code number, title, price, and name of recipient for each magazine or photo keepsake. • Complete mailing address, city/town, state, and zip code (check usps.com for zip codes). • Council name (GSOFCT), girl’s name, and troop number. For nut and candy order cards: Check each nut and candy order form to ensure: • Girls have selected choices for rewards. • Calculations are complete and accurate.     6

• Check the Share column for orders of donated nuts. These should be included in the total number of items and in the payment. • IMPORTANT: Ensure correct payment has been submitted for each girl’s orders. For online orders: Online magazine, nut and candy, photo keepsakes, organic vegetable seed cups, customized tumblers, and scented candles will be recorded automatically in a girls’ record in Unify. If a family believes there are online orders that are NOT reflected in Unify, please contact a Product Sales team member at (800) 922-2770. For address booklets: • At least eight completed coupons with full name, mailing address, city/town, state, and zip code. • Girl’s name, council (GSOFCT), troop number, and number of completed forms written on the cover. • Cross out duplicate or non-U.S. addresses and coupons with negative messages. All Unify entries need to be completed no later than 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2017.

Nut and candy product delivery

• Nut and candy product will be delivered to the Service Unit QSP Manager between November 29 and December 2, 2017. • Please pick up your troop’s order promptly and distribute to troop families so they can deliver customer orders as soon as possible. • Make sure that you and the adult picking up the girl/family’s order count to ensure the order is accurate and sign for the nut and candy items.

Material to be submitted to Service Unit QSP Manager NO LATER than November 4, 2017: 1. White AND yellow copies of magazine order forms, clipped or banded together. 2. Completed address booklets, if applicable. NO material needs to be submitted for online sales, since these sales will be automatically recorded in girl records in Unify. The ACH withdrawal from the troop’s bank account for payment to council will take place on Thursday, November 16, 2017. See page 13 in this guide for more information about the electronic payment procedure OR visit the QSP Volunteer Resources page at gsofct.org after September 15, 2017.

Share Program The Share program is a great way for customers to support the girls, troops, AND the American Red Cross, CT Chapter.

The Share program is a partnership between Girl Scouts of Connecticut and the American Red Cross, CT Chapter. For every $5 donation, the American Red Cross, CT Chapter receives one can of Honey Roasted Peanuts to be used in programs in our state, including disaster relief and support for active duty military and their families. This is the fifth year our council has participated in the Share program, and we hope to continue to grow this program! Girl order taking for the Share program Girls can collect orders in support of the Share program on their paper nut and candy order cards. There is a column at the end of the nut and candy offerings where customers can record the number of cans they would like to donate. Payment is collected from the customer at the time of the purchase. Customers may make a purchase simply to support the Share program, or they can add the donation to any other nut and candy, magazine, or photo keepsakes order. Purchases for the Share program are only available via the paper nut and candy order card, and we encourage girls to ask ALL in person customers to support this program.

Share program information for Troop QSP Managers Share program purchases should be entered in Unify with the rest of the girls’ in-person nut, candy, magazine, and photo keepsake orders. Troop QSP Managers will not receive the Share items with the rest of the girls’ nut and candy items in December. Girl Scouts of Connecticut will arrange delivery directly with the American Red Cross, CT Chapter for these purchases. Special rewards for Share program purchases In addition to earning the Share program patch for two or more Share program sales, girls who sell five or more items in support of the program will earn the Rainbow Headband Set! NOTE: Even if a Junior or older girl troop elects to take additional proceeds in lieu of girl rewards, girls WILL be awarded the Share patch AND the Rainbow Headband Set, if earned.

NOTE: Share program purchases cannot be made online. Share program purchases count toward all girl rewards and troop proceeds! Encouraging girls to talk to customers about the Share program will help girls and troops reach their goals.

Earn the Share patch for two or more Share purchases.

Earn the Rainbow Headband Set for five or more Share purchases.

Ways for Girls to Participate The theme for this year’s QSP program, Be Fearless: Unleash the Hero Inside, encourages girls and troops to pursue bold activities and projects that will not only make a difference in their communities, but also reveal the talents and skills the girls possess. In order to have this type of impact, troops will need funds to support their fearless girls. Enter the QSP Program. Quick, Simple, and Profitable, the QSP Program is an easy way to boost the troop’s treasury so the girls can get started. There are three easy and flexible ways for girls to participate in the QSP Program so girls/families can choose the ones that work best for them: • QSP Online • QSP In Person • Address Booklets While much of the QSP Program materials will be available on the For QSP Sellers page at gsofct.org, including a nut and candy order card for taking in-person orders, the paper magazine/photo keepsake paper order forms and address booklets are only available via the girl packets that the Troop QSP Manager receives from the Service Unit QSP Manager.

QSP Online

Girls who are registered for the 2017-2018 membership year by September 15, 2017, AND have a parent/guardian email as part of their Girl Scout membership record will receive an email at the parent/guardian email address with a link to register for this year’s QSP Online Program. Girls/families can also get started with the online program by clicking on the QSP Online Program link on the For QSP Sellers page at gsofct.org. After registering for the online program, girls can set up and customize their personal QSP webpage. Once the webpage is launched, girls can send emails to customers asking for their support; the email will contain a link to the online store. The Girl Scout and troop will receive credit for purchases made through the email link. Online customers will pay for their order, including applicable shipping fees, with a credit card and the item(s) will be shipped/mailed directly to them. Returning this year is the MyPatch Creation! All girls who achieve $150 in online sales will have an opportunity to create and order a free patch featuring their unique cat avatar. See page 11 for more information.     8

The Girl Scout tin will be available online AND on the nut and candy order card. NEW gift offering this year: Boodle Box will be available at a great price in the online store AND the paper magazine catalog. A great holiday gift for the Girl Scout in your family! Text and Share Once a girl has registered for the online program and set up her QSP webpage, she can enter her parent/ guardian’s mobile number or her own mobile number (if older than 13) on the Text and Share tab. A link will be sent to the mobile phone number along with a verification code. Once the verification code has been entered on the Text and Share tab on the girl’s QSP webpage, a second text message will be sent with a mobile-friendly link to the girl’s QSP webpage that can be forwarded to friends and family. NOTE: When sharing the link to a girl’s QSP webpage via text AND social media, the recipients must be personally known by the girl and her family. It is not permitted to post the link on community Facebook pages or other social media outlets where the girl/family do NOT control the audience. QSP In Person

Customers can also purchase magazines, nut, candy, and photo keepsake items in person from a Girl Scout. The nut and candy order card, magazine catalog, photo keepsake catalog, and order forms are included in each girl’s packet. Additional forms are available from the Service Unit QSP Manager or at a GSOFCT Service Center.

Many ways to participate allows the QSP Program to work for all girls and families.

Customers can purchase paper magazines, digital subscriptions, magazine combos, and photo keepsake items through the order forms included with the catalog. Customers renewing subscriptions will have their current subscription extended provided that the name and address match the existing subscription. Photo keepsake orders should also be recorded on the order forms. Payment is due at the time of purchase for all in-person magazine and photo keepsake orders. Customers can choose from 16 nut and candy items on the nut and candy order card. Fashioned after a traditional lunch pail featuring vintage-style artwork, the tin is sure to be a popular item. The Girl Scout tin is filled with Mint Treasures. Girls record customers’ orders and collect payment at the time the order is placed. Cash or checks payable to GSOFCT are acceptable forms of payment. Girls will receive their nut and candy products in early December to deliver to their customers. Magazines will be mailed to customers directly from the publisher. Redemption codes for photo keepsake items will be emailed, if email address is provided, or mailed to customers. Customers who would like to make a purchase for the Share program can do so on the order card. Each donation of $5 will purchase one can of Honey Roasted Peanuts to be donated to the American Red Cross, CT Chapter. See page 7 for more information about the Share program. NOTE: Share program purchases can ONLY be made via the nut and candy order card.

Address Booklets

Each girl’s packet will include one address booklet with postcards. Girls should include only U.S. addresses and make sure that all fields are completed. The completed booklet should be submitted to the Troop QSP Manager. QSP will mail the postcards to the customers to invite them to purchase magazines to support GSOFCT. Each booklet with eight or more valid postcards will earn the troop $2. IMPORTANT: Girls/troops will not receive credit for booklets with less than eight completed coupons, for books with incomplete postcards, OR for booklets that have the same address on multiple coupons (even if the names are different). NOTE: Troops will NOT receive additional proceeds from sales by customers whose contact information was provided on an address booklet coupon.     9

Rewards NEW tie-in between the QSP and Cookie programs! This year we are connecting the QSP and cookie programs to encourage girls and troops to participate in both programs and reap additional rewards and proceeds! For girls... Girls who sell $75 or more in QSP Program products and 85 boxes in the cookie program, including Initial Order, Goal Getter, and/or March cookie booth sales, will earn the Altogether Awesome patch. This one-of-a kind patch features the superhero cat from the QSP Program and the sea turtle from the cookie program. For troops…. Troops that average at least $120 per girl selling in the QSP Program and 125 boxes per girl selling in the cookie program (January-March 2018) will earn an additional $.02 per box of cookies in troop proceeds!

A NEW Troop Reward for this year’s program! Troops that achieve a $150 per girl selling average will earn a fun pom pom hat for each girl who has sales in the QSP Program. In addition, troops that have at least two girls earn the pom pom hat will also receive hats for two troop adults. NOTE about girl/troop participation: In order for a girl in a qualifying troop to earn the pom pom hat, she must have at least one sale. Girls whose only participation is via the address booklet will NOT be awarded a pom pom hat.

Earning Rewards Girls will earn rewards based on their total sale, including all magazine, nut and candy, photo keepsake, organic vegetable seed cups, customizable tumblers, and scented candle sales. All rewards are cumulative. For levels with a choice of rewards, girls should circle the items desired on their nut and candy order cards.

Older Girl Troop Proceeds Girls in Junior, Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador troops may take an additional 2 percent in proceeds (for a total of 17 percent proceeds) instead of receiving girl rewards. All girls in the troop must vote to take the additional proceeds in lieu of rewards—majority rules. NOTE: Girls will still receive all patches, Share program rewards, and the Troop Reward, if earned, even if the troop elects to take additional proceeds.

MyCreation Patch returns! Back by popular demand, all girls who register for the online program can create their own cat avatar that is as unique as they are! Girls will be excited to see their avatar on their QSP webpage AND featured in the marketing emails they send to customers. All girls who achieve $150 in online sales will have an opportunity to create and order a free MyCreation patch featuring their unique cat avatar. Back for a second year, troop adults will have an opportunity to create and order a MyCreation patch! When a troop achieves $300 in online sales, two troop volunteers will be invited to order a complimentary patch featuring their personalized cat avatar.
