Girl Scouts Can Do Anything!

2015 | 2016 Girl Scout Daisy + Brownie + Junior Activity Guide

We’re Girl Scouts and we believe in the power of every girl. It began over 100 years ago with one woman, Juliette Gordon “Daisy” Low. Today, Girl Scouts continue her vision of building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place by helping them discover their inner strengths, passions, and talents. And with our fabulous programs and events throughout the year, there’s a chance for every girl to do something amazing.

Moving at the Speed of Girls ! At Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines, we know that it takes a lot to keep up with girls today. It takes activities and experiences that allow girls to follow the fun, do what they love, and set off on their next big adventure. With Girl Scouts, you can rest easy while she laughs, explores, and discovers that anything is possible!

Not only will she have fun, but so can you ! Girl Scouts is a great way to spend quality time with your girl having fun, helping her find her passions, and supporting her along her path to success. There are many ways to volunteer from becoming a Troop Co-Leader to a Parent Volunteer to being a Day Camp Director. Become a role model she’ll always remember. Volunteer today!

During the 2015-16 membership year, girls and troops will have the opportunity to participate in two council-sponsored, money-earning activities.

2015 Fall Sale Program The Fall Sale Program gives girls and troops the opportunity to sell magazine subscriptions (new and renewals) and very popular nuts and candy in order to earn quick and easy startup money for their troop. This “friends & family sale” is conducted both face-to-face and via the Internet through a secure program.

Girl Scouts can Do Gr8 Things when they Branch Out and Stand Tall! New this year! Check out our new website where girls can create their Fall Sale avatar and even earn a patch featuring the avatar they designed. Girl Scout Daisy and Brownie troops will earn 10% of all sales, as well as cool patches and cumulative recognitions. Girl Scout Junior troops can choose the 10% proceeds plan with patches and recognitions, or can opt to receive 15% in proceeds and patches, in lieu of recognitions.

2016 Cookie Sale Program The 2016 Cookie Sale Program theme is Dream, Design, Do! Focusing on the 5 Skills, the cookie sale is designed to help girls grow into leaders of courage, confidence, and character while learning five valuable life skills: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics. All Girl Scout troops earn proceeds for participating in the Cookie Sale Program, which can be used to carry out troop plans. Troops that sell an average of 180 boxes or more per girl are also eligible for a bonus on top of the proceeds they earn, provided they meet all other stated criteria. In 2015, the average troop earned more than $1,300 in proceeds.

Dream, Design, Do! Participating girls are also eligible to earn Superstar Destinations. Girls who qualify can earn free admission tickets to places like Carowinds, Busch Gardens, Great Wolf Lodge, movie theaters, skating centers, and bowling centers. Girls can also earn Cookie Dough—which can be used to pay for Girl Scout camp, purchases in the council shops, and council sponsored events, and national and international GSUSA destinations. Summer Resident Camp At resident camp, Girl Scouts have the chance to experience swimming, outdoor cooking, crafts, hiking, campfires, songs, games, and make new friends. Girls may also choose to learn to use a compass, canoe, sleep under the stars, try a new dance, or tie-dye a T-shirt. Depending on the program, girls sleep in cabins or tents. Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines has three beautiful resident camps, which offer a wide variety of programs:

Camp Graham is located on Kerr Lake in Vance County and offers swimming, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, sports, archery, offsite horseback riding, crafts, and treehouses! Group camp is designed for girls and adults to attend camp as a unit, while resident camp offers a more independent camping atmosphere for individual girls. Camp Hardee is just southeast of Washington, N.C., on the south side of the Pamlico River and consists of 95 acres with river frontage, woodlands, and open space. Individual campers enjoy archery, crafts, swimming in the pool, canoeing, sailing, and kayaking, among other favorite camp activities. Camp Mary Atkinson is in the heart of Johnston County and offers outdoor-living skills, the challenge-by choice Alpine Tower, canoeing, swimming in our zero entry pool, horseback riding, archery, sports, drama, and crafts for individual girls. Campers also enjoy the 16,000-square-foot Leadership Center with a state-of-the art technology lab.

Hey Troop Leaders! Want to VENTURE OUT!? Are you new to Girl Scouting? Or do you want to take girls exploring outside, but feel you don’t have the experience? We have a great resource for you! Venture Out! is an online adventure that lets you explore different ways of taking girls outside in Girl Scouts. You’ll encounter the kind of challenges and successes that only the outdoors can bring: bad weather, encounters with wildlife, distracted girls, new discoveries, and life-changing events. Along the way, you’ll find tips for getting girls outdoors, plus real-life stories and advice from other volunteers. It’s interactive, filled with possibility, and learner-led – just like Girl Scouts! Venture Out! is available from Girl Scouts University, and made possible by the Elliott Wildlife Values Project. Visit gsuniversity. girlscouts.org/resource/venture-out.
