The Work of Girl Scouts In Our Communities – Making The World A Better Place Jayila Hughes' Silver Award project was called "Covid SOS." It targeted the elderly who were socially and physically "cut off" from their support network and loved ones due to Covid-19 restrictions. She chose the residents of Mount Pleasant Manor. Through this project she was able to engage residents with the people around them and connect them with the families they had been unable to see. It was her hope to safely bring people together to brighten their spirits during the pandemic. Jayila was able to raise enough money to purchase and donate three new iPads. Jayila (pictured left)

Girl Scout Week is celebrated each March, starting with Girl Scout Sunday and ending with Girl Scout Sabbath on a Saturday. It always includes Girl Scouts’ birthday, March 12th. “Girl Scouts Celebrate Faith” events give Girl Scouts an opportunity to be recognized at their places of worship during Girl Scout Week. The Girls share their legacy of service to others and deepen their connection to their faith and Girl Scouting.

Angela T. Clark
Angela T. Clark was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina, and has a dual degree in theater and business from South Carolina State University. Angela is a former Corporate Communications Specialist in the automotive industry. She is the Founder and CEO of Frabjous (Frab-juss) Enterprises, Inc. managing thirteen subsidiaries including three Miss America 2.0 franchises. Angela holds active memberships in the Greenville Chapters of the NAACP, SCSUNAA and is a charter member and first Treasurer of the Greenville SC Section of the National Council of Negro Women. The current 1st Vice President of the Greenville (SC) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Stacy Pearsall
Stacy Pearsall is a Nikon Ambassador and has had her photography displayed in many major galleries. She was an Air Force photographer and served three tours. She is one of three women who have won the National Press Photographer Association Military Photographer of the Year Honor. Pearsall’s series "Veterans Portrait Project" has documented over 7,500 veterans across all fifty states. Stacy Pearsall has used her passions of photography and helping others to help improve the lives of others. You might know Stacy's sidekick and partner, Charlie, who was the 2nd Today Show Puppy With a Purpose.

OUR GOLD AWARD GIRL SCOUT Madison’s Gold Award Project: “We Can Save The Bees Together.” Madison Reagin’s Gold Award project addressed the risk of bees becoming extinct. She partnered with Cypress Gardens, Bee City, Charleston County Parks and the Lowcountry Beekeeper Association to educate the next generation on the value of bees. Her project partners have put up bee homes and will maintain them as well as teaching the public about the importance of bees and how to save them. She developed an online curriculum in Saving Bees and any troop or classroom can access the curriculum. Pictured left: Madison with Nick Yoder of Cypress Gardens.

The Girls have done well with virtual but so excited to get back to IN-PERSON. As one Girl Scout said, “FaceTime will never replace FACE time.”

Throughout the month of April, GSESC staff took to the road to host Volunteer Appreciation Drive -Thru events in Beaufort, Charleston, Florence, Myrtle Beach and Orangeburg. There is no better time than time spent honoring and celebrating our volunteers. Beaufort Drive Thru- pictured right.
In the picture above, the Girls From the Page Program participated in a zoom meeting with Governor Henry McMaster and First Lady Peggy McMaster. The SC Honorary Legislative Page Program had a different look and feel than in past years. It was virtual and had a surprising benefit. Onsite, in-person interaction is very brief and limited. This year with virtual the Girls got a lot of one-on-one time with the Governor, Lt. Governor, Senator Shealy and SC representatives.
