She was also honored with the "Tracy Hughes and Troop 387 Day" proclamations from North Charleston Mayor Summey and Charleston Mayor Tecklenberg. Tracy’s Troop 387 has 100 plus Girls at any one time. She has had a profound impact on the lives of Girls in the Charleston area. The troop is sponsored by Royal Missionary Baptist Church in North Charleston. She was completely caught off guard with the celebration and honor, arranged by her husband, Reggie. Lillian Brunson is an active member of her community. Not only was she a Girl Scout herself, but was a Leader for her daughter and granddaughter’s Troops. Ms. Brunson was a teacher in the Darlington County School District for over thirty years. Over these years, she worked hard to help her students and her dedication can be seen in her accolades, including several Teacher of the Year awards. As well as teaching school, Mrs. Brunson has been a swimming instructor for over forty-five years. As a mother, a leader, and a mentor, Lillian Brunson has dedicated her love and life to her community. She says her legacy will be all the hundreds or maybe thousands of people that she has taught to swim… How many lives she might have saved.

City Council Presentation Two older Girl Scouts spoke on homelessness to North Charleston City Council. The presenting Girl Scouts were: Samaria Clark, 12th Grade, Santi Gilliard, 11th Grade. Each girl presented a 2-minute speech on the following topic: “If you received a $1 million grant to use for the City of North Charleston any way you wanted, what would you do with it and why?” The Girls spoke on their plan to uplift the homeless population.
