Annual dues are $20 for an individual, $30 for a family, or $250 for a lifetime individual membership or $450 for a life- time family membership. Visit the club website at www. wyflycasters.org. To pay dues or contact the club, write to P.O. Box 2881, Casper, WY 82602. The deadline for submission of information for each issue is a week before the end of the month. Make contributions to the next issue by e-mailing material to the Backcast editor at cheryl_ea06@ hotmail.com or call (307) 267-1903. The Backcast is available either in electronic format or through USPS snail mail. To receive each newsletter through a monthly e-mail, you must be able to open .pdf (Adobe Acrobat, a software program available free of charge) documents. Usually, each issue is roughly 1 MB in size, some are larger. Your e-mail provider may have limits on the size of attachments. In order to be added to the e-mail list, send a request to cheryl_ea06@hotmail.com. In addition to receiving each issue of the newsletter earlier than your hard copy peers, e-mail subscribers are able to print each copy in vibrant color -- an added plus if the issue is rich in color photographs. By sub- scribing electronically, you also save the club roughly $17.40 a year in printing and postage expenses.

Mission Statement:
The mission of the Wyoming Fly Casters is to promote and enhance the sport of fly fishing and the conservation of fish and their habitat.
Description:
The Wyoming Fly Casters club was formed in 1974. The membership currently consists of approximately 160 members. The WFC was organized by a group of dedicated fly fishermen and since the club’s inception the Wyoming Fly Casters have strived to further the sport of fly fishing through conservation and education. Conservation of our water resources is one of our primary goals and in cooperation with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department we have and will continue to carry out worthwhile projects for the benefit of Wyoming fisheries. In addition to conserving Wyoming’s water resources we encourage conserving the fish themselves. A fish safely released today will live to give sport to others.

President’s letter

Dear Flycasters, This letter is made with sincere hope that a few people will come to the board and volunteer their time. Our club is need of a few postions and honestly, we can not do what we need without volunteers. We need to have a volunteer for the postion of Committee chair for the Byway Access. If the club wants to do anything with conservation and continuing our founding beliefs of sustaining fishing for years and generations to come, then we need to continue in preserving and building public access to prime fishing areas. The club is also in need of someone willing and capable of the job of treasurer. The board has purchased a laptop and software to help. Matt Stanton has done a fantastic job for the last three years and is willing to help the new treasure figure things out. He has also been hard at work trying to get everything filed and easily accessible for our volunteer. He will be stepping down in March.
Last but not least, I will be unable to do another term as president. Take a leadership role in preserving the blue ribbon trout fishing around Casper and building the Wyoming Flycaters Club to a respected role in our community. If any of these postions interest you, please contact me. I can give you more information or get you in contact with someone. Have a great Thanksgiving holiday. I am thankful for the opportunity to be your president, my health, my loved ones, and the roof over my head. Don’t forget the Saturday after the general meeting is our first Lying and Tying at the Oil and Gas building by Three Crowns. And after that, in place of our December General meeting, will be our Christmas party. Tickets will be sold at the November general meeting. Happy Fishing!

LET’S PARTY!
Tickets for the annual Christmas party are available at the Ugly Bug Fly Shop and at the General meeting on November 13th. Cost is $10.00 per person. Also, Cheryl Alexander has tickets available (call 267-1903, or send an email to cheryl_ea06@hotmail.com). The deadline for picking up tickets is Dec. 4th. Those of you who receive the newsletter electronically will still have time to meet the deadline; for those hard copy recipients, by the time you receive this issue from the postman it will be too late. The meal is being catered by The Herbadashery again this year. Check the December Backcast for the menu we have planned for you! Desserts from club members to share are welcome. A few of the evening’s events: Christmas fly contest: Tie the gaudiest, most imaginative fly on a holiday theme in Christmas colors and assorted materials. It can be as diminutive as size 32, or as jumbo as a 2/0. All creations should have an appropriate name. The only requirement for an entry is that it be tied to a hook or hooks. Gift certificates are to be awarded to the first three places. An impartial jury (the membership) is to select the winners. Check out the winning entry from last year, below- Lee Tschetter.

Unique Opportunities for Casper Anglers CASPER – Casper anglers have a unique opportunity to catch Arctic grayling without having to drive to the mountains. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department stocked a limited number of Arctic grayling in Yesness Pond and Jessica’s Pond (next to Speas Fish Hatchery) in mid-October. Arctic grayling are usually only stocked in high-mountain and alpine “This is a great opportunity to bring these unique species to community ponds where people can lakes within the state. catch them close to home,” said Steve Sharon, fish culture supervisor for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. The Arctic grayling are from Dubois Fish Hatchery. They are 12 inches long and weigh about one-half pound each, although some could be bigger. Arctic grayling are native to Wyoming and have also been stocked into a number of high lakes throughout the state for the benefit of anglers. Grayling are easily caught on small flies and spinners. Winter Storm Atlas On October 4, Wyoming and the surrounding states were slammed by Winter Storm Atlas. Many in Casper were out of power for a good portion of the weekend as heavy snow brought down tree branches and power lines across the state. Here are just a few images of the damage. If this storm is any indication of what is to come this winter season, the snow-pack should be back to normal, or even above average. Although there was a lot of damage brought on by the storm, hopefully this will lead to a great summer in 2014!
Although Casper saw first hand the power of this storm, South Dakota was hit hard by Winter Storm Atlas. Farmers and Ranchers in Wyoming and South Dakota were hit the hardest. Flycasters, I would like to take a minute to say Thank you to all of you who have made this club possible. So many have dedicated their time and hard work into making this club what it is today. I haven’t been a member of the club for very long. Just over a year, in fact. This is an amazing group of people and I’m honored to be a part of this club. So, with Thanksgiving rapidly approaching, I want to give thanks for all of you! Just a few things to remember for this month, to reiterate from the past articles and issues. The Christmas party will be on the second Wednesday of December- December 11th, at 6:30 p.m. at the club house. Last year was a lot of fun and I hope to see you all there again this year! We are planning a great dinner and fun contests, including the Christmas Fly contest (see page 4 for details). Remember to send me your articles, pictures, and ideas for next months issue!
