On 25 January 2019, the Córrego do Feijão dam located in Brumadinho/MG collapsed, burying under 13 million cubic meters of toxic mud everything that it was in its way: people, animals, forests, houses, memories‌ The tragedy led to over 250 fatal victims including identified and missing people, it eliminated 140 hectares of native forest, it polluted over 300km of the Paraopeba River which affected 17 small towns and 600 thousand people. In just 3 years, the mining industry was responsible for the biggest two socio-environmental tragedies in Brazil: Mariana and Brumadinho. When the profit is worth more than lives and the whole ecosystem, we all are affected.
dismantle | the play The play is inspired on the collapse of the dams located in Minas Gerais cities Brumadinho and Mariana. The project brings to attention the dismount done by the mining predatory industry, proposing a necessary resistance against the forgetfulness of these crimes.
The dramaturgy goes through characters narratives silenced by a scenario made by death and destruction caused by the mining industry, direct and indirect victims of the biggest environmental crime in the country.
Dismantle is the 13th show produced by Girino Group and it involves a process of research and experimentation of Visual Theatre with Live Cinema techniques.
Live Cinema consists of creating live videos which will be projected at real time. The technique proposes a dialogue of the scene on stage and the scene being projected, exposing other layers of meaning and possibilities between what is done and what is shown.
From an investigative dramaturgy seeking visual narratives potentialized by Puppetry techniques, the Company reinvents itself researching creative possibilities in Visual Theatre and Live Cinema.
