Explore y conozca las anécdotas que reguarda este sitio con las lapidas de músicos, escritores, y personajes ilustres de Yucatán. Entrada gratuita.

Parque Hidalgo | Hidalgo Park

l origen de este espacio público probablemente se remonta a la primera mitad del siglo XVII, en el último tercio del siglo XIX se le llamó “Plazoleta del Jesús” por su cercanía a la Iglesia de la Tercera Orden. Localizado en la calle 59 x 60, el Parque Hidalgo es un sitio de descanso para las personas. Su decoración, escalinatas y el monumento de Manuel Cepeda Peraza (originalmente el parque se llamaba así), la convierten en un rincón a conocer durante tu visita a Mérida. Se dice que el ayuntamiento nombró oficialmente en 1877 a esta zona “Parque Hidalgo”, en homenaje al cura Hidalgo porque ahí se reunían los “indios pacíficos” que ayudaron a los blancos en la guerra contra los de su misma raza sublevados. Por siglos, yucatecos han reportado oír la voz de una mujer joven a lo largo de la calle 60 y en este parque de acuerdo con el libro “The Ghost of Mérida” de Louis E.V. Nevaer.

he origin of this public park is believed to date back to the first half of the 17th century, and it was repurposed inthe last third of the 19th century. At that time it was called “Plazoleta del Jesús” because it is across the street from the Church of the Third Order. Located at the intersection of Calle 60 and 59th Street, Parque Hidalgo is an urban refuge for a comfortable rest. Its decoration, stairways, and the monument of Manuel Cepeda Peraza (at one time the square was named in his honor), are a quintessentail stop during your visit to Merida. It is said that the city council officially named this area “Parque Hidalgo” in 1877, in honor of the priest Hidalgo who met with the “peaceful Maya” aligned with the Spanish during the War of the Castes, which was then ravaging the peninsula. The place is believed to be haunted; for centuries Yucatecans have reported hearing the voice of a young woman along 60th Street and in this park according to the book “The Ghost of Mérida” by Louis E.V. Nevaer.

se presentará la compañía de teatro guiñol de Tito y Tita con el espectáculo tradicional llamado “Misterio en la calle de las ánimas”. El lunes 28 en los bajos del Palacio Municipal se realizará la “Vaquería de las ánimas” y al día siguiente, martes 29 el Patio del Centro Cultural Olimpo albergará la exposición fotográfica Kili'ich pixan (Ánimas sagradas), la inauguración será a las 20 horas. Posteriormente, en el atrio de la Catedral de la ciudad se presentará el espectáculo de teatro regional “Llegaron los pixanes”. El Cementerio General, abrirá sus puertas para presentar la obra teatral Ujaanal Pixano'oob (la comida de las ánimas). La función es el miércoles 30 de octubre. En la misma sede, se llevará a cabo el recorrido histórico y cultural, en el cual se cuenta la historia de los mausoleos y las diferentes anécdotas que han ocurrido en los Cementerios General y Florido. Del parque de Santa Ana partirá la “Rodada de las ánimas con los Cicloturixes” para recorrer en bicicleta las calles del Centro Histórico y culminar en el Cementerio General. El 31 de octubre, se realizará el tradicional “Paseo de las Ánimas”, que partirá del Cementerio General hacia el parque de San Juan. Las actividades del festival concluyen el sábado 1 de noviembre con diversas dinámicas como la Biciruta Nocturna en el Paseo de Montejo, el Pok ta pok (juego de pelota) a las 20 horas frente al atrio de la Catedral y la Noche de catrinas a las 20 horas en el Remate de Paseo de Montejo.

que se muestra un jardín botánico con gran variedad de flores de la región formando figuras creativas e innovadoras alusivas al Día de Muertos y a la ciudad. De manera alterna, en el Centro Municipal de Danza se llevará a cabo el espectáculo “México y sus tradiciones: Día de muertos”; el sábado 26 de octubre en el remate de Paseo de Montejo se ofrecerá el espectáculo de baile y música tradicional mexicana “La muerte baila en Noche Mexicana”. Comida de las ánimas | Food for the Souls Una de las tradiciones mayas más representativas de Yucatán es el Hanal Pixán (comida de ánimas) para recordar a los fieles difuntos quienes tienen “permiso” de visitar a sus seres queridos.

Dedicado a todos los santos, el u hanal conocido NOV pixanoob como “misa pixán” por qué se realiza una misa para todas las animas, generalmente desde el cementerio. / Dedicated to All Saints, the “U Hanal Pixanoob,” known as “Pixan Mass,” to commeorate all the saints and their souls, and usually involves a candlelit procession in the cemetery.

One of the most representative Maya traditions practiced in Yucatán State is the Hanal Pixán, meaning “Food for the Souls.” This is an autumnal celebration to remember the faithfully departed who are granted “permission” to visit their loved ones back on Earth.

ALTARES

Es una mesa de madera, mantel blanco, velas blancas encendidas, incienso, arreglos florales de cempasúchil, una cajetilla de cigarros si es que el difunto le gustaba fumar en vida, una cruz verde que representa el árbol de yaxché, un vaso de agua y una fotografía del familiar. Los altares de los niños son más coloridos, se le agrega juguetes y velas de colores. Se coloca agua y sal en los altares para purificar las almas de los “malos vientos”. It’s traditional to have home altars: any wooden table covered with a white tablecloth will do. They are decked out with burning white candles, incense, cempasúchil (marigold) floral arrangements, a pack of cigarettes if the deceased liked to smoke, a green cross representing the yaxché plant (ceiba, or Ceiba pentandra), a glass of water, and a photograph of the departed. Children’s altars are more colorful, and include toys and brightly colored candles. Water and salt are placed on the altars to purify the souls of “bad winds”.

PLATILLOS, BEBIDAS Y DULCES

En estas fechas se prepara el tradicional mucbipollo (pib), comida típica del Hanal Pixán, y el coctel de frutas “xek” (ensalada) cuyos ingredientes son jícama, mandarina, china (naranja dulce), jugo de limón y chile en polvo. Se prepara el atole nuevo y el balché que es un licor ancestral maya. During the celebration the traditional mucbipollo (or, colloquially, “el pib”), typical food made of corn dough stuffed wich chicken and tomatoes, baked in banana leaves, is the mainstay meal of Hanal Pixán. In addition the fruit cocktail known as el “xek” (salad), consisting of jicama, tangerines, mandarine oranges, lemon juice, and chili powder is prepared. The new atole, a beverage made from the corn of the first harvest, and the balché, an ancient Maya anise liquor, are prepared.

Cenotes mágicos | Magical Cenotes Una de las maravillas de Yucatán son los cenotes. Para los mayas representaban la entrada al inframundo, y actualmente representan un oasis para el descanso y el relajamiento. Se consideran aptos para visitar aquellos que son accesibles, ofrecen algún tipo de servicio, y donde se pueden realizar distintas actividades. One of the wonders of Yucatan is the cenote. Ik Kil is located 2 miles (3 kilometers) from the archaeological zone of Chichén Itzá. Surround it by exotic plants and trees, and many other species. The main attraction of Ik Kil is its cenote, adorned with vegetation. There are stone stairs by which one can descend to see its depth and admire its beauty from various vantage points.

The cenote of X’kekén, or Dzitnup, is also located 2 miles (3 kilometers) from the “Magical Town” of Valladolid. The name X’Kekén means pork in Yucatec Maya. To reach the cenote you enter through a narrow hole as it is an underground cavern, but when you arrive you can see that the space is not so small in addition to its spectacular view.

Located 20 minutes from Mérida on the road to Campeche in the town of Chocholá. This cenote offers very safe conditions and is ideal for swimming in its clear turquoise waters. It boasts a restaurant, swimming pool, bathrooms, games, lockers, WiFi, etc. Open 365 days a year. Credit cards accepted

Ubicado a 3 kilómetros de la zona arqueológica de Chichén Itzá. Está rodeado de plantas exóticas y muchas otras especies. El principal atractivo de Ik Kil es su cenote adornado de vegetación y para ver su profundidad se baja por unas escaleras de piedra para admirar su belleza desde distintos puntos.

Está localizado a 3 kilómetros del pueblo mágico de Valladolid. Su nombre significa cerdo en maya. Para acceder al cenote se entra por un agujero estrecho ya que es una caverna subterránea, pero al llegar se puede apreciar que el espacio no es tan reducido además de su vista espectacular.

Localizado a 20 minutos de Mérida, en la carretera a Campeche, en el pueblo de Chocholá. Este Cenote presenta condiciones muy seguras y es ideal para nadar en sus aguas transparentes de color azul turquesa. Cuenta con restaurante, alberca, baños, juegos, lockers, wifi, etc. Abierto los 365 días del año.

Recorra los edificios, admire la Pirámide más larga del mundo maya. Progreso Fundada el 1 de julio de 1871 en la categoría de pueblo, pero pierde esa etiqueta el 9 de enero de 1875 al convertirse en villa. Su suelo marino y baja profundidad impedía el arribo de grandes embarcaciones, sin embargo no fue obstáculo para el emprendedor pueblo yucateco al construir el muelle conocido como “Puerto de altura”, prodigio de ingeniería marítima siendo el muelle más largo de México. Camine en el malecón, recuéstese en las arenas finas y blancas, nade en las tranquilas y tibias aguas; disfrute del mar y de las refrescantes bebidas que ofrecen los restaurantes, sorpréndase gratamente con el sabor de los mariscos, su paladar se lo agradecerá. ¡Déjese consentir!

La palabra Dzibilchaltún está formada por cuatro vocablos mayas: "Dzib", escritura; "il", locativo; "chal", plano; y "tun", piedra; lo que puede traducirse como “lugar donde hay escritura en las piedras planas”. De acuerdo con la historia, los primeros asentamientos con este lugar preclásico eran aldeas pequeñas que se abastecían de agua en los depósitos formados en los alrededores las comunidades. Los edificios se construyeron de piedras rojas como resultado de los microorganismos que vivían en las rocas y que se volvían rojos al tener contacto con el agua y aire. ocated 120 km (80 miles) southeast of Mérida, Chacmultún (meaning “Red stone hill”) is an archaeological zone in the municipality of Tekax. According to history, the first settlements with this Pre-Classic era place were small villages that supplied water from natural freshwater deposits found in the surrounding communities. The buildings were constructed of red stones, which get their color from the microorganisms that inhabit the rocks and subsequently turn red when they come into contact with water and air. Centuries before the Spanish arrived, it was the most important city in the east, evidenced by the large concentration of buildings.

¿Cómo llegar? | How to get there? En automóvil, maneja por la carretera federal libre número 180 hasta llegar a Tekax. Luego conduce a dirección a los poblados de Kanek y Kancab. Al llegar al último pueblo mencionado, agarra la calle 36 hacia al sur para llegar a Chacmultún. En transporte público, las combis se toman en la calle 62 x 67 y 69 del centro en el barrio de San Juan o en la terminal de camiones ADO en la calle 70 x 69 y 71. By car, drive on the toll-free Federal Highway 180 until you reach Tekax. Then continue to the towns of Kanek and Kancab. When you reach the last town mentioned, take 36th Street south to reach Chacmultún. By public transport, the combis, or shuttle vans, operate in San Juan, on Calle 62 between 67th and 69th Streets..
