odos los viernes a partir de las 20:30 hrs se realiza el video mapping de “Piedras Sagradas” con juego de luces, imágenes y sonido, en la fachada de la Catedral ubicada frente a la Plaza Grande. Con los efectos 2D y 3D, las piedras parecieran cobrar vida, convirtiendo la proyección en un espectáculo audiovisual. very Friday, at 8:30 PM, one can enjoy “Piedras Sagradas,” or “Sacred Stones,” a video mapping performance of lights, images, and sound projected on the facade of the Main Cathedral located in front of the Plaza Grande. With the 2D and 3D effects, the stones seem to come alive, turning the projection into an audiovisual show.

esde el 21 de marzo del 2013, se celebra el día de la guayabera, prenda típica y representativa de Yucatán. A finales del siglo XIX se volvió popular en el Estado, y se consolidó en el siglo XX como símbolo del Caribe. La guayabera goza de fama mundial, y con el paso del tiempo se ha ido adaptando con nuevos diseños y colores. En ese mismo día se celebra el “Día del Trovador” desde 1977, celebración iniciada por el compositor Juan Magaña y Alonzo. Con estas dos fechas Mérida recibe a la primavera.

ince March 21, 2013, the “Day of the Guayabera” is celebrated, this man’s garment being the typical and representative garment of Yucatán. At the end of the 19th century, it became popular throughout the State, and it became the quintessential in the 20th century as a symbol of the Tropical Caribbean. Today, the Guayabera is famous worldwide, and with the passage of time has been adapted with new designs and colors. On that same day the “Day of the Troubadour,” since 1977, is also celebrated.

This was an initiative of composer Juan Magaña and Alonzo. With these two splendid events, Mérida welcomes spring.

One of the most prestigious opera houses in Mexico, it was the first constructed in the city. It gets its name from the writer and playwright José Peón Contreras who was born in Mérida.

MONUMENTO A LA PATRIA

Hasta el final del Paseo de Montejo está el Monumento a la Patria, obra del escultor colombiano Rómulo Rozo tallada en piedra. La construcción narra parte de la historia de la época prehispánica, la década del siglo XX y del estado de Yucatán, y en la parte trasera se encuentra un águila devorando una serpiente, aludiendo al lago de Texcoco que dio nacimiento del escudo nacional de la bandera de México. Te recomendamos visitarlo en la noche para que fotografíes desde diferentes ángulos con la iluminación instalada de la edificación a través de tu cámara.

At the end of the Paseo de Montejo you’ll find the Monument to the Fatherland, a work of the Colombian sculptor Rómulo Rozo, carved in stone. The construction narrates part of the history of the pre-Hispanic era, Mexican history throughout the twentieth century, and the history of Yucatán State. In the rear of the sculpture is an eagle devouring a snake, alluding to the Texcoco Lake in Mexico City that gave birth to the national emblem of the flag from Mexico. We recommend you visit it at night so that you can photograph the sculpture from different angles, made exceptional by dramatic lighting.

1. PASEO DE MONTEJO: -calle 47 con 58- Su construcción se inició en 1897 y concluyó a principios del Siglo XX. Es la más amplia y bella avenida de Mérida y una de las más hermosas de México. / (Calle 58 and Calle 47): Its construction began in 1897 and concluded in the early years of the twentieth century. CHICHÉN ITZÁ

Es una de las zonas arqueológicas perteneciente a las 7 maravillas del mundo. El observatorio (caracol), es una edificación redonda cuya función era para las observaciones astronómicas. El muro de las calaveras es un sitio donde se aprecian cráneos tallados en piedra. El cenote sagrado (Xtoloc), según dice la historia, se realizaban sacrificios humanos como tributo a los dioses. El Templo de Los Guerreros está rodeado de mil columnas, dedicada al dios Chac Mool donde podrás ver su estatua. Hasta el final de la cancha del juego de pelota, se sitúa el Templo del Hombre Barbado, recibe este nombre por el personaje con barba en la fachada. El templo de Kukulkán (la pirámide) es el principal atractivo, en ella desciende “La Serpiente Emplumada” durante el equinoccio que ocurre el 21 de Marzo a las 16:15 hrs.

Wonders of the World. The Observatory, also known as the “Caracol,” is a round building designed for astronomical observations. The Wall of the Skulls is a site where skulls carved in stone can be seen. The sacred cenote, a natural sinkhole in the limestone bed, known as “Xtoloc,” is the site that, according to legend, the Maya made human sacrifices as a tribute to the gods. The Temple of the Warriors, surrounded by a thousand columns, is dedicated to the god Chac Mool; his statue sits atop the staircase. At the end of the Ball Game Court, one finds the Temple of the Bearded Man, named after the character with a beard on the facade.

The Temple of Kukulkán, the central pyramid, is the main attraction. During the solstices, “The Plumed Serpent” ascends or descends, which happens on March 21 at 16:15 hrs. In the evenings, you can enjoy the Light and Sound Show, known as the “Nights of Kukulkán,” which is free of charge for everyone on Sundays.

A 14 kilómetros de la carretera Progreso, su nombre sig-

nifica “donde hay estructuras sobre las piedras planas”. El Museo del Pueblo Maya está conformado por 4 salas de exhibición abarcando la época prehispánica del siglo XX de los mayas, desde la cultura, religión, costumbres, etc.

Si se sigue a los 12 sacbés o caminos blancos, te llevarán al cenote de Xlacah (pueblo viejo), sumérjase en sus refrescantes aguas. Se han rescatado piezas arqueológicas de los mayas, como vasijas y huesos tallados. Tiene una profundidad de 45 metros y 100 metros de longitud.

El Templo de las 7 Muñecas recibe ese nombre cuando arqueólogos excavaron y se encontraron precisamente

con sietes muñecas de barro en la década de los 50´s. En el equinoccio, el cual pasa el 21 de Marzo a las 5:30 hrs., el sol pasa a través del templo, permitiendo a los espectadores presenciar el fenómeno astronómico, comenzando así el cambio de estación con la llegada de la primavera.

The Maya ceremonial center of Dzibilchaltún is located nine miles (14 km) on the highway to the Port of Progreso. Its name means, “Where there are structures on the flat stones.” The Museum of the Maya People is comprised of four exhibition halls covering the culture, religion, customs, and life of the Maya people from preHispanic times to the present day. The Temple of the Seven Dolls is so named because when archaeologists excavated the site in the 1950s, they found seven clay dolls. DZIBILCHALTÚN. Lugar de Escrituras sobre Piedras Planas (500 a.C.) Resplandeció entre 600 y 1000 d.C. La respetuosa y sabia relación con la naturaleza, convirtieron a los mayas en grandes astrónomos que hasta hoy en día observarás en el edificio denominado “EL TEMPLO DE LAS 7 MUÑECAS”, nombre que recibe por que en su interior encontraron 7 ofrendas de muñecas. El edificio está perfectamente alineado con los puntos cardinales, cuyas fachadas anterior y posterior tienen una puerta, 2 ventanas, mediante las cuales se genera un extraordinario fenómeno de luz durante los EQUINOCCIOS DE PRIMAVERA Y DE OTOÑO: “Kin (El Sol) se posesiona del Templo a través del espacio hueco de sus puertas, y marcos que le dan un reverencial abrazo”. Suba las es-

calinatas y disfrute de la belleza del templo, y siente su energía. Contemple “LA CAPILLA ABIERTA” de la época colonial con su santuario de bóveda corrida. Recorra los edificios, admire la Pirámide más larga del Mundo Maya.

El Cenote “XLAKÁH” (Poblado Viejo), proveía de agua a la población, además fue centro de ritos religiosos. ¡Sumérjase en sus Frescas y Milenarias Aguas Sagradas!

Dzibilchaltún tiene un PARADOR TURISTICO, librería, artesanías, y baños para cambiarse de ropa después de nadar en el hermoso cenote. Está abierto todos los días del año de 8:00 am a 5:00 pm. La tarifa para visitantes nacionales es de $107 pesos, y extranjeros en $139 pesos (incluye la visita del museo y cenote Xlakáh). Los domingos el acceso es totalmente gratuito para turistas nacionales presentando

su identificación. De lunes a sábado se aplican descuentos a estudiantes, maestros y personas de la tercera edad con su credencial vigente.

PROGRESO. Fundada el 1 de julio de 1871 en la categoría de pueblo, pero pierde esa etiqueta el 9 de enero de 1875 al convertirse en villa.

Su suelo marino y baja profundidad impedía el arribo de grandes embarcaciones, sin embargo no fue obstáculo para el emprendedor pueblo yucateco al construir el muelle conocido como “PUERTO DE ALTURA”, prodigio de ingeniería marítima siendo el muelle más largo de México. Camine en el MALECÓN, recuéstese en las arenas finas y blancas, nade en las tranquilas y tibias aguas; disfrute del mar y de las refrescantes bebidas que ofrecen los restaurantes, sorpréndase gratamente con el sabor de los maricos, su paladar se lo agradecerá. ¡Déjese consentir!

seventeenth century. Its OPEN CHAPEL, the first in Yucatán, has dimensions similar to the temple. It is here that Fray Diego de Landa, blinded by his evangelizing zeal, ordered to destruction of hundreds wooden Maya idols and burned 17 codices. La arquitectura se destaca por la forma simple, planos alargados, columnas ornamentales, rica y elaborada decoración de piedras formando mosaicos; casi excluyendo la figura humana, sobresaliendo casi con la obsesión de Chaac (dios de la lluvia) con visión Estético-Religiosa de las que dependían las cosechas, su agua potable se almacenaba en Chultunes(cisternas) creados por ellos. SAYIL. The name means, “The Place of the Ants.” Its three areas detail the socioeconomic and religious divisions of Maya society. Of its restored buildings two stand out: THE BALL AND MIRADOR GAME, where beautiful stelae on display at the entrance were rescued, and THE PALACE, which has three staggered floors, the first two are the base and terrace, about 70 upper rooms in which new styles of architecture were constructed.

The entrance to the ceremonial center is up a challenging incline leading to the CHULTÚN (cistern) used to collect rainwater, store food or ferment alcoholic beverages. THE PYRAMID OF THE MAGICIAN, or the Dwarf, has rounded corners, cut stones, and stairways.

The walls of the façade are shaped with lattices of rocks, and Chaac faces which frame the door. In the QUADRANGLE OF THE NUNS there are four imposing buildings in the central courtyard. The entrance is through an arch. The walls are made of stones carved into lattices and panels. Visitors can see figures of carvings of huts with feather roofs, birds, monkeys, intertwined snakes, and the omnipresent figure of Chaac.
