n estas fechas decembrinas, observarás a los niños en las calles de la ciudad con su cajita con vela cantando las ramadas, cánticos para alegrar a los vecinos a cambio de unas monedas. “Me paro en la puerta, me quito el sombrero”, son las primeras líneas de la canción, y dependiendo del entusiasmo de los pequeños al cantar, la persona sale de su casa a darle su “aguinaldo, seguido se escucha “Ya se va la rama muy agradecida” como agradecimiento. En el caso de que no haya ninguna respuesta, entonan tristes “Ya se va la rama muy desconsolada.” Lo recaudado es para organizar la posada con las muy tradicionales piñatas de 7 picos, que representan los pecados capitales y los dulces la gracia. Los juegos pirotécnicos como las luces de bengala iluminan cada rincón junto con las caras sonrientes de los niños, sin olvidar los típicos villancicos para crear un ambiente agradable. Para finalizar con broche de oro, se quema el viejo para despedir al año viejo.

a Ciudad de Mérida se ilumina con un hermoso espectáculo de lucecitas en los lugares más emblemáticos. La Plaza Grande es el sitio más visitado por los turistas en todo el año, pero más en diciembre por la iluminación en los árboles y el nacimiento a gran escala. A un lado de la Catedral, se encuentra el Pasaje Revolución con la decoración de luces en el techo con sucesión rítmica en todo el pasillo. La muy conocida Avenida de Paseo de Montejo se engalana a partir del Remate con un pino, esferas iluminadas y un espectacular juego de luces que resaltan la belleza de Mérida en la noche.

The Plaza Grande, or Main Square, is the site most visited by tourists throughout the year, but more in December because of the lighting in the trees and oversized Nativity Scene. uring December, visitors observe children in the streets of the city with their little boxes with candle singing the “ramadas,” or small branches carried when caroling, chants to cheer neighbors and to solicit a few coins. “I stand at the door, I take my hat off,” are the first lines of the song, depending on the enthusiasm of the little ones when they sing, the person being sung to walks over to hand over an “aguinaldo,” or contribution. This is followed by the kids singing that “the branch very grateful” to say “Thank you.” In the event that there is no answer, they sing regretfully, “The branch is very saddened.” The proceeds are used to purchase the most traditional piñatas of all: a seven-pointed star, which represents the Seven Deadly Sins and the candy inside the piñata represent Grace. It’s common to see neighborhoods filled with pyrotechnic games and sparklers illuminate every corner of the city, bringing smiles to the faces of the children, ever mindful of how traditional carols to create a pleasant atmosphere. To end with a flourish, the Old Man, or the current year that’s about to end, is burned as a way of being done, bidding the old adieu.

1. PASEO DE MONTEJO: -calle 47 con 58- Su construcción se inició en 1897 y concluyó a principios del Siglo XX. Es la más amplia y bella avenida de Mérida y una de las más hermosas de México. / (Calle 58 and Calle 47): Its construction began in 1897 and concluded in the early years of the twentieth century. It is the largest and most beautiful boulevard in Mérida and one of the most beautiful in Mexico. 2. PALACIO CANTÓN: (año 1911) –Paseo Montejo y calle 43- Museo Regional de Antropología. Este palacio construido por el arquitecto italiano Enrico Deserti, también constructor del teatro “Peón Contreras”, es de los más admirables de Mérida. Es sede actual de este Museo, con interesantes piezas mayas. / (Built in 1911) -Paseo de Montejo and Calle 43-, Palacio Cantón today is the Regional Museum of Anthropology. The palace was designed by Italian architect Enrico Deserti, who was also responsible for the Peón Contreras Theater downtown, it was considered the most luxurious building in Merida of

On December 21st and 22nd, this being the shortest day of the year, the sun shines, between 3 PM and 5 PM with precise symmetry between two sides of the Castillo pyramid at Chichén Itza, as the shadows darken the staircase. It has become a tradition for thousands of people to wait with bated breath and witness this natural phenomenon, a requisite for an auspicious beginning of the New Year. There are solstices at other Maya ceremonial centers throughout the Yucatán, as well, including Dzibilchaltún, Uxmal, San Antonio Chel, Mayapán, and Oxkintok. These other venues are ideal for those who want to avoid crowds or want to enjoy a more intimate experience. The reason for this phenomenon at various archaeological zones is because the Maya understood how the earth shifts on its axis during changes in the seasons.

The respectful and wise relationship of the structures with nature is one reason Maya astronomers continue to use these buildings, particularly the structure known as ‘THE TEMPLE OF THE SEVEN DOLLS,” so named because seven dolls were found inside its chamber. The building, perfectly aligned with the cardinal points. 7 RUTA SUR | SOUTH ROUTE REGIÓN “PUUC”. (cerro o serranía): Sus habitantes asentados en tierra roja y fértil, desarrollaron cultura muy propia. Su arquitectura destaca por su forma simple, planos alargados, columnas sólo ornamentales, rica y elaborada decoración de piedras formando mosaicos; casi excluye la figura humana, sobresale casi con obsesión Chaac (dios de la lluvia) con visión Estético-Religiosa del que dependían sus cosechas y su agua potable, almacenada en Chultunes (cisternas) creados por ellos. Entre en íntimo contacto con ellos y la naturaleza. LOLTÚN. (Flor de piedra): Grutas. En el acceso Nahcab (colmena) lo recibirá bajorrelieve de “El Guerrero de Loltún”, dios que emerge del inframundo. En visita guiada asómbrese con formaciones abovedadas, estalactitas y estalagmitas; bóvedas como “La Catedral”, impresionante, “La Mazorca”, “El Cañón” de gigantescas rocas. “Las Columnas

XLAPAK. (old walls). A true Puuc gem, the PALACE has a very geometric facade with stone mosaics. Chaac masks at the corners seem to want to jump off the facade. Each structure has a different façade each decorated with latticework, images of Mayan huts with feather roofs, birds, monkeys, intertwined serpents and the omnipresent Chaac. These mosaics were stuccoed and painted with brilliant colors. One of the great monuments of ancient America is the harmoniously proportioned Governor’s Palace.
