Fritz Meyer opens a workshop in Solothurn with half a dozen employees, producing cylinder escapements for the watch industry. The company, now called Meyer & Stüdeli, becomes a high quality watch movement manufacturer. Highly precise and reliable «MST» movements soon acquire international recognition also beyond Switzerland.

Watch production soars to one million units a year. The company begins to produce its own cases to control the overall quality and to reduce dependency on outside suppliers.
Employing already more than 1,200 people, ROAMER starts its own dial production line. An astute case providing excellent water-resistance and simplifying servicing procedures is designed, developed and patented.
Repeatedly improved over the years, ROAMER patents watertight watch case which leads the company to launch its Antifibio line. Antifibio acquires a world-wide reputation for exceptional endurance and reliability.
Roamer becomes a high quality watch movement manufacturer.

Glossary
Water-resistance Each and every Roamer watch has been tested individually for water-resistant according to the Roamer quality specifications.
Steel case The steel case and metal bracelets are made entirely of 316 L high-grade steel.This stainless steel features extremley high resistance to corrosion and heat. 316 L is a steel alloy of the finest quality.
Leather Strap Leather is a natural product. It has been a prized commodity throughout history. Today, this material has lost none of its fascination. Only the finest grades and top quality leather is used by Roamer to produce the watch straps. Even the best quality leather has flaws and natural markings. These subtle markings on the top grain layer are analogous to fingerprints. They distinguish genuine leather from man-made materials.
Swiss Made All Roamer models are manufactured in Switzerland and therefore bear the «Swiss Made» quality label. «Swiss Made» is a certificate of origin for the Swiss watch industry and has become a global byword for the finest manufacturing and product quality. Stringent quality controls are performed at every stage of manufacturing by Roamer in Switzerland.

Sapphire glass The scratch resistant sapphire glass is manufactured on an aluminium oxide base. The sapphire crystals have a hardness of 9 on the Mohs – hardness definition scale. For comparison: genuine diamonds = 10 on the Mohs scale. All Roamer models are fitted with sapphire crystals unless specified with mineral crystals.
PVD coating Surface treatment is a key step in watch-making. To coat or cover surfaces, especially by gold-plating, watchmakers were for a long time entirely dependent on the electrolysis method. Today an almost unlimited range of techniques are available. The leading technology for this purpose is PVD – Physical Vapour Deposition. PVD coating guarantees extremely hard surfaces and therefore protects all the components of the watch case, crown, bracelet or clasp. The surface of a PVD coating is many times harder than steel and therefore greatly superior to traditional methods, especially in therms of durabillity.
Balance Wheel/Hairspring/Frequency Balance Wheel: a metal ring which froms the timekeeping element of a watch together with the hairspring. With the help of its oscillations it divides the time together with the escapement into exactly defined sections. Hairspring: a coiled metal band attached to the blance wheel. Its elasticity ensures that the balance wheel oscillates evenly back and forth. Frequency: number of balance oscillations per second measured in «Hertz» 1 Hertz = 1 full oscillation pers second = 72000 semi – oscillations per hour have most modern movements today an oscillation of 28,800 or 4 Hertz.
