X This is probably the hardest mission you will ever be asked to perform since you joined Round Table, and will certainly sort out the men from the boys!

However if this mission is beyond you then visit the website and sponsor one or more of the willing volunteers in the 41 Club Team. Every donation will count towards our total and if you donate it as gift aid the chancellor will generously donate an additional 25%. I know that alcohol has always been one of the foundation stones of most people's Tabling career and for some this will be just a step too far. It will make growing a moustache seem like child's play, but think of the benefits: 1)

Your body will feel healthier.

2)

Your wallet will be fatter.

3)

You will not snore and annoy the wife for a whole month.

Editorial How can we help you?

'black holes' for 41 Club.

What is that what you say, 'help us'?

So may we ask you to let us know where we can help and how we can help your club in particular. Some clubs will invariably disappear, but new younger clubs are being formed every month. Help us to identify where new clubs could be started. Produce a list of people who may be interested, let us provide you with suitable materials or arrange for a 41er to appear on local radio. There is a lot we can be proud of in our history and we should be just as proud of our future.

Yes gentlemen we at National want to help you to ensure that your club has a future and not just a past. We are aware of the problems many of you face, often due to the closure of your local Round Table, but we are acutely aware that there are many ex-Round Tablers out there who never joined 41 Club but who now may be interested. We are planning a marketing campaign to find those potential members and will be providing materials to support you. This will include posters, advertisements, newspaper and radio interviews and anything else that can be provided at a reasonable cost. We can no longer rely on the automatic supply of Tablers leaving each year and we aim to become much more pro-active in finding those members. Believe me gentlemen other organisations are actively seeking out and recruiting your potential members.

So now, how can we help you? Please send your ideas to the Newsletter in order that we can publish them in the next edition. Remember that the National organisation is here to promote our great fellowship movement and not just to organise the AGM and publish communications. Let us work together to create a brighter future for 41 Club!

But before we can help you we need your help. I am sure that every Ray Hill one of you could name at least ten members of your Table that have comms@41club.org never joined 41 Club. There are whole towns and even cities that are

Derek's Flame Of Hope Weston Super Mare 41 Club is very proud to report that after 60 years service our member Derek Chapman has been awarded the prestigious ' Flame of Hope' Fellowship by Cancer Research U.K. Back in 1953 Derek, a member of Weston Super Mare Round Table 110, was at a meeting where a talk was given by the then British Empire Cancer Campaign. When Round Table were asked if they would consider supporting the charity, Derek volunteered to help set up a fund raising committee; which has now reached its 60th anniversary. He and his lovely wife Yvonne put their hearts and souls into raising money creating monthly special dinners, knit- ins. picnics etc: the list goes on and on. Now in his 87th year, Derek has been instrumental in raising well over a million pounds. He is clearly a credit to both Round Table and 41 Club.

Advertise Your Event Here If you are organising a special event for your club or region then why not advertise it here. There is no cost, and all you have to do is supply a suitable advertisement in A6 format. Please send all copy to comms@41club.org at least two months before the event.

Where Are All The Morgan Owners? It was announced in the Summer Magazine that the November edition will feature Morgans owned by 41ers. From past communications I know that there several proud Morganeers out there but so far the response has been very poor. So if you have a Morgan please send a photograph and some brief details to comms@41club.org. Come on lads we cannot be outnumbered by the MG owners.

On the 18th October a special dinner is being organised to honour him and the 60th Anniversary. Anyone wishing to attend please contact the organisers on 01278 769078. Martin Booth Chairman Weston 41 Club

You won’t have heard of us because we’ve managed to keep a low profile for 50 years. But you will gather from the interesting use of consonants that we are from Wales {South East – just above Newport and beneath Pontypool (if that’s possible)}. Anyway, tired of hiding our light under a bushel, we are going to have one hell of a party pretty much on the actual 50th anniversary of our charter. The date: Tuesday March 25th 2014. National President, Martin will honour us with his presence and we hope to honour him by contributing to his Macmillan appeal with proceeds from a sponsored walk - an arduous, mountainous, possibly calamitous perambulation across the Black Mountains on St David’s Day. Apart from bread throwing and beer spilling competitions, entertainment will be provided by comedian Bob Webb a local favourite with an international reputation (known to Interpol). At £25 per head, there will undoubtedly be pressure on tickets and early application to roger.bryant2012@gmail.com is advisable. If you are otherwise engaged on that day you might, nevertheless, wish to take part in the proceedings by sponsoring the said walk. Sponsorship forms or donation details will be supplied on application to Roger. This is a great opportunity to celebrate 41 Club and Tabling generally, acknowledging all it has meant to so many down the years and the occasion will be greatly enhanced by support and good wishes from brethren near and far. It’ll be nice to hear from you. Mervyn France, Chairman

A Message From Ladies Circle National President Over the Easter 2014 break, together with a number of Circlers (and Tablers), I will be undertaking my ultimate challenge as National President on behalf of my national charity: Whizz-Kidz. We will be departing from Southport, cycling through Liverpool, Widnes, Warrington, Lymm, Stockport, Penistone, Sheffield, Worksop, Lincoln and ultimately into Skegness. We will have then cycled 222 miles in four days! The inspiration for the route has been taken from the ‘Way of the Roses’ and adapted to pass through, or as close to, as many of the clubs in that part of the UK. Much thanks goes to Simon Roberts for taking on the role of managing this ride and for his hard work so far including mapping out the route and stops. It would be great to have as many Circlers and friends support us both by cycling all or part of the route. Alternatively we will need help at the many planned stops to provide much needed drinks, food and moral support to keep the team going .

The Winter Magazine The final date to submit items for the Winter Magazine is the 30th of this month. If you have anything you would like to submit please send it to comms@41club.org. Photographs are always welcome but please ensure that they are large, high resolution ones, sent separately and not embedded into the article. This is a magazine for our members and not just about the club. If you have any subject that you think would entertain or inform other members then please submit it for possible inclusion. Articles in the next edition will include 40 years of partnership with the Anthony Nolan Register, the final part of the Brooklands story and the first 75 years of LOTS. Your copy should be arriving on your doormat in early November.

If you fancy joining in with the Ladies Circle Whizz-Kidz Pedal for Pounds 2014, please email me at ruthsride2014@gmail.com. Further details and regular updates about the ride and route are also available on the Facebook page at ‘Ladies Circle 2014 Pedal for Pounds’, and a Just Giving page is available at: https://www.justgiving.com/LadiesCircle to receive donations. Please support us in any way you can, this will be a tough challenge for all those taking part but hopefully we will raise a lot of money for my chosen presidential charity: Whizz-Kidz! Yours in friendship Ruth Curry National President 2013-2014 National Association of Ladies’ Circle

41 Club calendar For 2014 41 Club calendars for 2104 will be available in the next few weeks. The photographs are a selection of those entered into this year's photographic competition. The quality of entries this year was very high and I hope that you will enjoy the selection that has been made. Cost of the calendar will be £5 with all of the profits being donated to the President's charity for this year, Macmillan Cancer Support. Full details on how to obtain a copy will be included in the Winter magazine and the October Newsletter. A great Christmas present and an opportunity to help financially with this very important task. A calendar is not just for Christmas - it is for the whole year!

Last month I invited your comments on how we handle obituaries in the future, in the light that very few organisations now carry obituary columns in their club magazines and the growth of the use of the internet. I was expecting a flood of objections but instead have received some very well argued responses which I include here in full. Consequently we are investigating ways of implementing some of the suggestions made in the correspondence. We will confirm this as soon as it has been finalised. Having read your article on Obituaries I would like to put forward an opinion and suggestion. If clubs do not record the fact that a member has died, it is possible that their name will be forgotten forever. I have overcome this possibility in Pinner by creating a booklet with every members name, recording when they joined and died and the offices they held. This includes all members of our Table (now closed), Ladies Circle (also closed) and Tangent. Whilst this is only available in a printed version, I do keep it up to date and it is available to anyone requesting it.

·Providing obituaries for past colleagues imbues the organisation In my connection with Scouting however, in the County of Greater with respect and affection, qualities which most members might feel London Middlesex West, I have created and online ‘Book of entirely appropriate. Reference your editorial in the current newsletter, I believe 41 clubs Firstly, congratulations on resuming your role as editor of our should have the facility of paying tribute to members who have newsletter. I’m certain the combination of editorial experience, passed away - I always search the obituary column to check if my enthusiasm for the organisation and your listening approach to the name appears - and I would vote for option 2) so that a full obituary readership will continue to serve the publication well. can be viewed on the website by anyone who recognises the name of I pick up your thread on the publication of obituaries and your a past colleague. interest in what the readership thinks about this aspect of content. I Peter Bishop, Chesham 41 Club would make the following observations. ·As a friendship organisation, especially old friends, close friends and often far flung friends, access to this news is important for old contacts and is an opportunity to publicly remember and acknowledge the contribution and value of long serving Table members to their friends and to the organisations. Although sad for the loss of a friend, the memories invoked are frequently warm, happy and sometimes inspiring.

I am a fan of continuing as we are and I am not sure of any reason to change. Cannot speak for anyone other than Table (I am a recent transferee), but Tabler is not what it was and one of the criticisms of the magazine in recent years has been that there really is so little in it. I hadn't realised the obituaries had stopped (being a younger club, there were never that many anyway), but if they have, then they are ·Space is, of course, an important consideration and inclusion of just one of a raft of regular features that are no more. occasional obituaries seems practical along with, perhaps, a list of Brian Steele, Chairman, Worthing Round Table 41 Club names submitted by clubs.
