41 Club Supporting Round Table be totally insular, just because you didn’t belong to that club doesn’t mean your offer won’t be welcome.

We all know that supporting Round Table and their activities is one of the key purposes of 41 club members. Following a recent discussion with some Tablers here’s something you can do which they know would be really helpful.

If you don’t know if there is a display, collection or other large event needing manpower going on why not find out? Some of the bigger events are publicised on the Round Table web site at www.roundtable.co.uk but you can contact your Regional Councillor (his name and contact number is found from the front page of the web site) to find out about others.

We are into the big season of Fireworks and Santa Christmas collections, most of the beer festivals are finished but you might still find one. First of all if you are a club that has a Round Table running these events I hope you do offer your support but even more importantly turn up! This is a great way of Why not give it a go and if you do it let us know with showing the friendships but also of getting to know a letter to or report to the Newsletter. each other. If you haven’t been asked then go out and ask them if you can help. Have fun in continued friendship But here’s another one. If your 41 Club no longer has Jim Smith a feeder Table or the Table isn’t doing one of these National Vice-President big traditional events why not look for a local Table that is doing one and offer your support. We are all Tablers and the spirit of friendship doesn’t need to

National Conference 2016 Birmingham will be the venue for the 2016 National Conference and AGM. Congratulations to the Birmingham team and we look forward to visiting the Heart of England.

Awarded to Lytham St. Annes 41 Club for the Red Rose Dinner held on the 1st November 2013. Congratulations to the organisers of the 2013 Red Rose Dinner for a superb evening. From the innovative on-line advertisement to the final speaker we were treated to an excellent night of Lancashire hospitality. No-one there will forget the 21st century exploits of Albert and the Lion! The evening was over-subscribed and they managed to squeeze in an extra 20 guests. Next year's organisers are Lancaster and they have a hard act to follow, but I am sure that they will pull out all of the stops.

Philippines Disaster

Communication is a two way exercise, or at least it should be. Every month I put together this newsletter (in addition to the three magazines a year) but I sometimes wonder if anybody is reading it!

There have been a number of enquiries regarding what support 41Club should give as a result of the recent disastrous hurricane in the Philippines. The National Board met and discussed this at length.

Why do I say this? Well it is based upon the responses I get. For the last two months I have requested suggestions from clubs on how to improve our membership drive ... response so far one letter. Two months ago I asked the members for sponsorship in the Go Sober in October campaign, Phillip Ellis and I refrained from alcohol for an entire month to help Macmillan, response from 17,000 members ..... zero.

The Board has decided not to give any direct support to the Philippines or to consider any form of National Appeal, but to suggest to individuals or Clubs that if they wish to offer financial support - this should be done either via the established Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) or through Round Table International - who we understand are coordinating some support.

Gentlemen, we need to know how you, your club and the whole organisation sees the future of our club and what you are doing to ensure that 41 Club has a future.

The Board are obviously shocked and concerned at the scale of this tragedy and we hope that the disaster recovery that has already been put into place, or pledged, is soon available, and those who need help receive the support they deserve.

Hopefully we will see the return of the postbag in future editions. Let's talk!

50 Years of 41 Club In Leicester A superb evening was had by all at Cosby Golf Club to celebrate 50 Years of 41 Club in Leicester. Chairman of Leicester St Martins, Mick McQuade, had some expectations of the night but what happened surpassed all that he anticipated. He says "It was great to share the good company with a few members who have not been able to join us at 41 Club for some time, they were most welcome and I hope that they too will wish to share the 41 Club fellowship again soon.

The evening would not have been anywhere near as good as it was without the tenacious support of Stuart Rowland, good events do not happen on their own and it was down to Stuart that ours was such a success." The members were reminded of the verses published in the Club Bulletin at about the time that the 39 and 702 41 Clubs merged:

That's just how it hits you, when all is said and done It's a whole load of memories - of years and years of fun It's connection to that old Chairman, many years before Who set up trips to Neustadt; to Binche, to Troyes and more. It's a 'friends united website' without the cursing and the swearing No program crashes monthly - just interpersonal timesharing It's a load of brilliant friendships; it's a link to laughs - now cold Or perhaps a mental album of simply growing old. It retains some Joy of Table; recalls happiness of yore Inter-generational connection - an opportunity to jaw And now as friendships falter, and the good guys die away It keeps the ties still knotted in a sort of mates soiree. So, Leicester former Tablers seize the chance to keep the Best Retain the badinage and laughter, the teasing and the zest You’ve viewed the link with others: 39's merge with 702 And keep on being happy that 41 Club still wants to drink with you.

Remembrance Sunday - National Arboretum David Smith, National IPP, 41 Club lead the party of National representatives from the various strands of the “Round Table family” and clubs in Lichfield at the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, Staffordshire on Sunday 10th November as we paid our respects to those who have given their lives in support of our country and our way of life. Afterwards we repaired to nearby Lullington where Lichfield 41 Club and Lichfield Tangent jointly hosted and organised a private luncheon. David Smith kindly thanked the Ladies for their hard work. David and his wife Kay were most welcome and gracious guests as were VP Jim Smith and his wife Chris, Tangent IPP Sue Marlow and husband Derek, Round Table IPP Jason Thompson with Kim and Circle IPP Marjorie Aird and her husband.

Jennie Tipper. Welcome guests from other clubs in Lichfield were Simon Trevelyan from Spires 41, Helen Macdonald from Lichfield Ladies Circle, Stuart Clark from RT 250 and Beverleigh Thompson from Tangles Tangent. We enjoyed a three course lunch with unlimited wines and soft drinks for just a “tenner” a head The club owes its thanks to the hard work of Jean Cummings and the team for the food and indeed to the many members of 41 and Tangent who worked before the event, during the lunch and afterwards washing up and generally swabbing the decks! That is what 41 and Tangent is all about.............and although not our prime reason for the event our modest profit will be shared between the 41 and Tangent National charitable appeals.

Lichfield 41 and Tangent were represented by Chairman Rob Horton and Kate Horton who stood in for Tangent Chairman
