Crumbs... ! YOUR MACMILLAN FUNDRAISING TEAM:

Partnership Manager: Stella Krajewski  : 07976 424127 skrajewski@macmillan.org.uk

The National Council meeting held in Oxford in July saw National Council members decorate cakes in a fun team building event hosted by Macmillan Cancer Support and dedicated to Macmillan’s largest fundraiser, “The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning”, Area Fundraising Manager, Stella Krajewski designed an afternoon of coffee and cake based fun to inspire national council members and their partners to take part and encourage other 41Club members to take part in coffee morning to raise funds for National President, Martin Green’s chosen charity. “Getting involved is easy and you still have time to register and take part”, says Stella. “Whilst the official day is Friday 27th September, you can run a coffee morning anytime for Macmillan and it’s a very simple and fun way to raise funds whilst enjoying spending time with family and friends”. To register and receive a coffee morning pack full of fabulous merchandise, get in touch and go to coffee.macmillan.org.uk

41Club Donations

£4996 received so far!

If every 41 Club were to raise £100 then we would raise enough money to: operate the financial element of our phone service for a month. In this time, our cancer support specialists could, on average, deal with 825 cases and help secure £1,705,145 in unclaimed benefits. Plus: pay for a Macmillan social worker or family support worker for six months. They work with community and social services agencies to help people manage the social and practical problems of living with cancer.

Get involved in Macmillan’s newest fundraiser. Taking a month off the booze is going to be quite a challenge but it can have many potential benefits. By signing up to the challenge and making even small improvements to your diet and exercise, participants could expect to experience a range of health benefits and you’ll also be raising funds for a great cause. Join 41Club members Phil Ellis and Ray Hill and track the entire success of other 41Club GoSober participants by joining Team 41Club.You can track their success and who is involved by clicking here: www.gosober.org.uk/team/41club If you are feeling brave, why don’t you challenge an opponent in the GoSober head to head challenge where you can spice up the challenge by having an opponent or team to vie against – how about those boys in the Roundtable for instance! If you are not man enough to GoSober, then why don’t you donate the price of a pint or two in support of other 41Club members or put a ‘jar on the bar’ and see if you can help get team 41Club to the top of the league table. To find out more or to sign up go to: gosober.org.uk

Update on... Barry Durman, (41Club National Fellowship Officer) has completed his cycle ride as part of a group of Round Tablers called ‘The Red Windmills’, (raising money for Macmillan and a couple of other charities). After a 420mile cycle challenge from Birmingham to Paris as part of the six-man ‘Moulin Rouge Cycle Challenge’ over four days, Barry then returned to get married just a few days later – Congratulations to you and your wife Barry and hope your sore bits improved in time for your honeymoon!

Mario’s Story Mario was running an Italian restaurant when he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. He became too ill to run his business and that’s when the financial impact of cancer hit him. 'I lost my income. The insurance company said that because cancer was an illness not an accident, I wasn’t covered, so basically I lost everything. 'I couldn't carry on paying the rent so I ended up losing my home. 'It's very scary, especially when going through chemotherapy.' It’s the fear of the unknown – you don’t know what’s going to happen. I was falling from a great height and there was no bottom.’ To see more of Mario’s story go to our video clip on YouTube here

What can you do? Macmillan believes no one should face financial worries alone. We’re calling on governments, businesses and the NHS to act urgently to ensure the right support is offered at the right time to people like Mario.
