The Red Windmills Keep On Turning! Congratulations to the small intrepid band of Tablers and our own Barry Durman who successfully completed their cycle ride from Marchesi House to The Moulin Rouge in Paris. The team covered the 420 miles in just 6 days with only a few incidents along the way. The full story will be in the Novemeber Club Magazine.

How Can We Help Macmillan? To those who have so far donated money to my Presidential Appeal for Macmillan – many thanks. Every penny will be put to good use. These have included sizeable donations of £500 from one club to one anonymous donation of a ten pound note in a hand written envelope. At the time of writing we have banked just over £4,000.

Whilst being Vice-President my elderly Mother was diagnosed with cancer. I remember vividly the conversation with the Consultant. It was very ‘matter of fact’ and lacked passion. However immediately after a Macmillan nurse moved my Mum and my wife and I to Martin Green another room and tried to explain things in a very calm and caring National President

OK so why would YOU want to be a National Councillor for 41 Club? Why would YOU want the "best Fellowship" role the Association has to offer? Why would YOU want to belong to another 41 Club full of committed members for no extra membership fee? Why would YOU want to visit other 41 Clubs, make new friends, attend their social functions and have a great time? Why would YOU want to serve on an interesting Committee like Internationa where you get to meet 41 Club members from other countries? Or Conference where you get to attend Parties and Balls? Or Membership where your input makes a real difference to the Association you joined as a Tabler? Why would YOU like to feel valued now you're retired or need something as a relaxation if you're still working even consider doing anything like the being a National Councillor for 41 Club. If the answer to the above questions is I can see NO reason why I would want to do any one of those things then the answer you gave is correct for YOU of course. However for some of us, me included, the answer to all of the above questions was YES! I would like to do that! I gave my answer 12

years ago and since then I have been a National Councillor, served on a Conference Committee, been National Conference Officer and now I am the National Councillors Liaison Officer. The GOOD NEWS is I have enjoyed ever minute of my time in any role undertaken in my time on Council, all have been fun to do and, given my time over again, I would not hesitate to give the same answer! I started as we all do as a National Councillor and I truly believe that this really is the "best fellowship" role in our Association and you don't have to go any further that that as it gives you all of the above benefits and more. If you would like to know more about what being a 41 Club National Councillor is really all about pick up the phone and call me on 01275 341464 or, if you prefer, email me at councillorliaison@41club.org for a chat. I promise you, like me, you won't regret saying YES. Yours in Fellowship

New Honorary Webmaster Required Our excellent and long serving webmaster, David Hewitt, has let us know that he will be standing down from the post in April 2014. David has served the Association and the National Council well for the past 10 years and we will undoubtedly miss his experience and the humour and fellowship he brings. We are aware that the web site needs some updating but we also want to link it more closely with social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn which are used extensively by our target market Round Tablers who have recently left or will leave Round Table shortly. The National Council believe the web site and other related items such as Apps and use of social media will form a key role in the development of our Communications and Membership strategy. The National Board are looking to appoint a new honorary webmaster and feel it would be beneficial to link the appointment with the development of the updated web site. We are therefore

looking for a fully paid up member of 41 Club who could possibly undertake both the role of developer and on-going webmaster. If you are skilled in web site development, have a good knowledge of the interface with social media and would be interested in the role of honorary webmaster we would like to hear from you. The webmaster is an honorary member of the National Council and whilst it is not compulsory it is expected that the person appointed would attend most National Council meetings. This is a great opportunity for a member of 41 Club to get more involved with the Association, make a difference to our communications and membership strategy and extend their fellowship with other committed members of National Council. The responsibility for the appointment will be led by the Forward Planning Committee so please contact Jim Smith, National VicePresident and chair of Forward Planning either on vicepresident@41club.org or on 07958 610183 to register an interest by 30 September 2014.

Jim Smith National Vice President

41 Club Classic Car Meeting 2014 A lot of members have expressed interest in bringing their cars to a 41 Club classic car meeting in 2014. Initial plans are therefore being made to hold a rally on the weekend of June 21-22, 2014 at a venue near Coventry. Please contact me (comms@41club.org) if you are interested in attending. Also would you prefer a one or two day event with a fellowship meal on the Saturday evening. I have lots of ideas for the content of the event but suggestions are always welcome. Ray Hill, comms@41club.org

41 Club Twinning Relations Questionaire? From Frank Venables, International Committee Member As you will all have become aware, Club 41 Français has withdrawn from 41 Club International, mainly over its acceptance of non ex-Tablers as members. Over this club year I aim to establish the effects of this (if any) on international exchanges at club level. To this end I am asking you to contact me with any relevant experiences, or thoughts, you have on this subject. Questions the answers to which would interest me include: ♣ Has a French club withdrawn from your twinning/number club? ♣ Has your club considered or actioned a break with a French club? ♣ Have clubs from other Ex-Table overseas associations asked for a French club to be excluded from your number club. Other thoughts will no doubt spring to mind. For my part, several of my club visits recently have seen discussion of the last visit, current hosting, or planning for the next get together with the French twin club. In addition, I think that if the answers to my questions are 'yes' club life will be much duller. Please be my eyes and ears on this and report back.

Frank. If you wish to communicate your own experiences on any aspect of interclub twinning, or to look for a twin club abroad, please get in touch. Region20@41club.org or 01793 783803.

25 October 2013

** NEWSFLASH** It was over 2 years ago that Pendragon 41 Club agreed to host this years White Rose Dinner. We very quickly realised that securing a suitable venue for the event was of paramount importance. After visiting all the potential sites we settled on Berties Banqueting Suite. You may be aware that during the last few months, there have been rumours circulating around the area to the effect that Berties was in some difficulty and that if a buyer was not found by a certain date, the suite could close. The initial date passed and a new ‘final date’ was released. At this time, the organising committee decided to act to safeguard the event by booking a different venue to ensure the 52nd White Rose Dinner proceeded as advertised. So the venue for this years dinner has been changed to:

The Cedar Court Hotel, Ainley Top, Huddersfield. This is a very popular hotel to be found just off junction 24 of the M62 motorway. The Cedar Court has superb facilities to accommodate us in a magnificent banqueting suite as well as a private reception room with a full bar. And there is more good news..... There are 113 rooms available to book onsite, so you have no worries if you decide to stay over! And even better we have negotiated Double Rooms at £50 and Single Rooms at £40! To book a room either call 01422 375431 or book online at www.cedarcourthotels.co.uk/cedarcourt/huddersfield-halifax/ And quote reference: HU-WHIT And finally....more good news....real ale will still only cost you £2 a pint!
