Trailing 71-70 with 3.5 seconds remaining, Pitt’s Ashton Gibbs received an in-bounds pass, dribbled up the court, pulled up for a 30-foot 3-pointer and swished the shot at the buzzer to give Pitt a 73-71 win...Providence led 61-56 with less than seven minutes to go but Pitt battled back into the game...Pitt took the lead at 70-68 on two Jermaine Dixon free throws with 40 seconds left, PC’s Sharaud Curry answered with two free throws and PC’s Brian McKenzie put the Friars ahead 71-70 by making 1-2 free throws with 3.5 seconds to go...Pitt used a 15-1 run that included three baskets by Dixon and was finished by Brad Wanamaker 3-pointer to take a 32-23 lead after trailing by as many as six points in the first half...Pitt led 44-37 with 16:11 left but PC came charging back...Gibbs tied career-highs for points, 3-point field goals made and field goals, Dixon registered his first career double-double with career-highs of 24 points and 12 rebounds and Wanamaker finished with a career-high 13 assists...Pitt improved to 6-0 vs. PC at the PEC and claimed its ninth win in the last 10 matchups against PC...The victory clinched a two-day bye for Pitt upon entering the Big East Tournament.
