THE STORYLINE
CAREER
As one of the nation’s top players, Ashton Gibbs returns for his final year at Pitt with the opportunity to etch his name among the school’s all-time best players. A tremendous representative of the university, Gibbs is a two-time All-Big East selection, two-time AllRegion selection, three-time Big East Academic pick and is a candidate for Academic All-America honors. He also earned the 2009-10 Big East Most Improved Player award following a breakout sophomore season. Gibbs returns as a starting guard, top shooter and go-to scorer. As one of the nation’s most underrated offensive players, he has led Pitt in scoring in each of the last two seasons, scored over 20 points 23 times in his career and reached double figures in 54 of his last 65 games played. In addition, he converted several memorable clutch shots including a game-winning 3pointer at the buzzer to defeat Providence and a game-tying 3-pointer during a dramatic comeback against West Virginia. Already, Gibbs has proved to be one of the best shooters in school history as he will enter his senior year primed to set numerous records for both free throws and 3pointers. A proven winner and competitor, Gibbs has showed versatility in contributing at both the point and off guard positions. Cool under pressure and a steady all-around player, he has the ability to change the game with his shooting skills.
