The Spirit of Local Adult Kick Ball

With names like to “Kickalob Ultra” and “Mama said knock you out”, the kickball leagues are full of colorful teams. Some of the teams are self sponsored, some of the teams have corporate sponsors like Subway or Sandy Sansing. No matter how they get there the name of the game is fun. Kickball is kind of a combination between coed softball with elements of dodgeball since a player can be thrown out by being hit with a ball. The players range in age from 18 well into their 50s and their backgrounds are as diverse as students

Community Maritime Park Welcomes Debt Free Maritime YMCA

With a great deal of community support as well as the very likely fulfillment of a debt free facility, it seems as though the new $10 Million Maritime YMCA, to be placed at the waterfront of the Community Maritime Park, will be in place as well

in use in the near future. According to information provided by the YMCA of Northwest Florida, “During the spring of 2012 we spoke to a number of community leaders who unanimously confirmed what we know: a new YMCA is needed to

continue our communitybuilding work for generations to come and to revitalize downtown. “We are committed to being part of the successful future of Pensacola and its surrounding communities. It’s our vision that a Y located

at the Community Maritime Park will continue our legacy of service.” Teri Levin, Finance Chair for the Maritime Y confirms that saying the support is overwhelming and this will be a debt free complex. “We will raise $10 million

will be private funds.” Levin continues, “The investors are excited and are awaiting lease approval by the city. We also currently have a gift of $5 Million from Quint and Rishy Studer.” With the funding and com-

munity support coming together as it is, no financing of this project will be needed. For more information regarding the coming Maritime YMCA please visit their website found at http:// MaritimeY.org.

Imagine the Possibilities

of a Maritime Y Imagine a new YMCA right on the waterfront. Imagine what it would look like and the programs it would offer. Imagine a Community Maritime Park that is busy with activity. Imagine a safer and healthier community!

The images below were taken at YMCAs around the country. They illustrate that a YMCA is more than a gym. They show the variety of programs and amenities we could include in a new Maritime Y.

What does your dream YMCA look like?

We encourage everyone to visit MaritimeY.org to see more YMCA examples and consider the possibilities of a new Maritime Y. Tell us what you would like to see built, what amenities you would like to enjoy.

WEST FLORIDA WOMEN’S GOLF CRACKS TOP 20 IN LATEST POLL

Argonauts improve five spots overall to No. 17 NEW YORK, N.Y. – A strong start to the spring season has been recognized by head coaches around the nation as the West Florida women’s golf team jumped five spots in the first Golf World/WGCA Division II College Women’s Coaches Poll of the spring Wednesday. The Argonauts improved to No. 17 in the nation, up from No. 22 at the end of the fall season. UWF is fresh off a fourth place finish at the Lady Moc Golf Classic yester-

day where it outplayed most of the 17 team field and finished ahead of six ranked programs, including five that remain among the top 15 in the nation. The result followed a third place showing by the Argonauts during the first week of February at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate, where they similarly finished ahead of five teams ranked higher than them at the time. The Argonauts leapfrogged five spots in the poll despite only having one tournament under their belt when the

voting period ended on Feb. 22. Their finish at the Lady Moc Golf Classic will not be considered until the next poll. Leading West Florida through the first two tournaments of the spring is freshman Elin Olsson (Mantorp, Sweden/Bildningscentrum Facetten), who notched the first two top 10 finishes of her career. She tied for eighth at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate before tying for seventh at the Lady Moc Golf Classic to pace UWF at both events.

Through five tournaments in both the fall and spring that does not include the Lady Moc Golf Classic, (Camila Sevillano Cali, Colombia/La Arboleda) leads West Florida in scoring average with 77.30 strokes per round. Olsson is exactly a stroke behind her, averaging 78.30. West Florida resumes play next week at the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational in Winter Springs, Fla. Hunter’s Corner

By Jim Taylor

Hello, friends! Well, our deer seasons have come and gone, and I hope all of you have had a great year. Now, for some of us we will start going through withdrawals until the fall, but for others we will start now preparing for next year. Now is a good time to do some after-the-season scout-

ing for those big bucks we didn’t get this year and to cut out shooting ranges and look for places to put new stands for next year. With that said, some of us just finished our late muzzleloaders’ season and even with the bad, windy weather some nice bucks and quite a few hogs were taken. One buck in particular, a nice 10-pointer, was

taken on Eglin near Eglin Roads 213 and 212. This buck was taken at 5:00 p.m. one afternoon and also quite a few hogs were taken. Now, speaking of hogs, their numbers have really exploded recently, both on public and private land. In Florida, you can hunt feral hogs all year long in many places. These hogs can do a lot of damage

to food plots and deer feeders. They can also tear up gardens and terrorize family pets, along with running off most of the deer and turkeys in an area. Some of these hogs make excellent table meat. I recommend a young shoat or sow. I do not suggest the old boars or sows with pigs. If you happen to get a barr – a boar that has been cut – then you

will have excellent eating. If hunting these animals interests you, be very careful. They can be extremely aggressive, but it will help you pass the time until spring turkey season. Good luck to all of you and may God bless.

National Guard Retirees are invited to breakfast April 27 at the Ellyson Field National Guard Armory located at 8790 Grow Drive, Pensacola, FL 32514. Coffee and breakfast will begin at 8 am. For more information please contact Logan Fink at 850-516-7687.
