110,000 reasons to celebrate Medicare’s online claiming A YEAR after the Department of Human Services introduced Claim your Medicare Benefit Online, Australians are discovering the advantages of claiming via the internet. More than 110,000 medical services have been claimed since it was introduced to Medicare’s Online Services at the end of February last year. Online claiming allows customers to securely lodge a Medicare claim for five of the most common GP consultations. Customers can submit a claim using their computer anywhere there’s an internet connection. Department of Human Services General Manager Hank Jongen said online claiming provided convenience for customers. “Customers can use online claiming to lodge a claim 24 hours a day, seven days a week,� Mr Jongen said. “Claims are processed instantly and payments are
generally paid the next business day. “It is a great option for customers who are unable to have their claim lodged at their doctor’s practice and find it difficult to travel to a service centre.� “We’re always striving to find ways to improve our customer service and make dealing with Government easier for people.� To take advantage of online claiming, customers need to be registered for online services and have provided their bank account details to Medicare. Online services also allows customers to update their personal details, view their claims history for the past 12 months, check their child’s immunisation history and view their Medicare benefit tax statement.
