Opera for Over 50s: experience of a lifetime Opera Queensland, through its Moving Opera! program and the generous support of The Arts Centre Gold Coast, recently held its second successful
Opera for Over 50s workshop and showcase finale. Tutored by Opera Queensland professionals from Brisbane under the expert direction of
Sean Dennehy, 35 aspiring local talents over the age of 50 enjoyed the experience of a lifetime. Five days of rehearsals were followed by an hourlong Saturday night extravaganza before an audience of 400 people. The Arts Centre Gold Coast creative producer Brad Rush himself took to the stage at evening’s end to enthusiastically congratulate participants while emphasising
the importance of bringing the unique Opera for Over 50s to many who, in the past, could only dream about such an event. Pictured is the star cast, including Opera Queensland singers, in full costume just before curtain fall on the second Opera for Over 50s. No doubt many are waiting in the wings for news of the next such opportunity.
