Stories on Stage:

1st grade through 5th grade - Full Days - Runs Week 1, Week 2 & Week 3 and each week is a different adventure with a new show to learn!

Do you have lots of energy or love performing for friends and family? Then Stories on Stage is the summer class for you! Participants will begin each class by playing ensemble building theater games like Zip, Zap, Zop and Strike a Pose. Each week students will read new short stories and work together to bring the stories to life on stage. Class will end with a final production for friends and family to see. Stories on Stage is a fun way to help young students improve their reading fluency, writing, listening, and social skills. (No acting experience required.)

Summer Cabaret:

1st grade through 5th grade - Full Days - Runs Week 1 only

Summer Cabaret is a one week musical theatre workshop, involving fundamental theatrical skills which include: scene work, character development and projection, Broadway genre music, simple staging and choreography, and ensemble music with solo and duo opportunities. There will be performances at the end of the week to share our work in progress with friends and family. This program offers opportunities to strengthen community, operative learning, presentation, and public speaking skills. Performers will explore music and scenes from Broadway shows Seussical, Cinderella, Wicked, Matilda, Les Miserables, Lion King, The King and I, and more.

3-Week Intensive classes

*Only students enrolled for all three sessions will be cast. Students doing one or two sessions will have non-performing responsibilities.

5th grade through 9th grade - AM course (9:00 - 11:35 am) - Runs Week 1 through Week 3 - Can be paired with A Wrinkle in Time or other weeklong courses

On day one, we’ll have a blank page. By the end of our time together, we’ll have a show! Join us for an immersive theater experience: devising, writing, and performing a show…all in just three weeks! If you love to perform, or write, or do all the stuff backstage that makes a play work—or even if you've just had an idea for a play—this is the class for you. Together, we’ll learn about the art of playwriting, we’ll read and get inspired by some great short plays, and then we’ll write, stage, and put up one of our own!

Summer '23 Production - A Wrinkle in Time!

5th grade through 9th grade - PM course (12:25 - 3:00 pm) - Runs Week 1 through Week 3 - Can be paired with Page to Stage or other week long courses.

Our 2023 summer production will be A Wrinkle In Time, adaptation by Morgan Gould. Develop your character-building skills, work backstage on props and set design, and learn and grow as a community through acting and understanding.

"One of literature's most enduring young heroines, Meg Murry, is back — braces, stubbornness, and all. Once again, she's joining forces with Mrs. Whatsit, Charles Wallace, Calvin O'Keefe, and more to battle the forces of evil so she can rescue her father, save humanity and find herself. In the end, we know two things for sure: 1. Love CAN overcome evil and 2. There IS such a thing as a tesseract."

Week Long Courses

Check the full schedule to see when each class is running.

Art of the Monologue

“To be or not to be…” In Art of the Monologue, students will work on character building, reading between the lines, acting techniques, and memorization, just to name a few components. Through workshopping and exercises, students will gain access to their inner actor. By working with others and having important discussions, these student actors will uncover why Monologues are truly works of art.

Improve Fun

Students will learn the foundations of improvisational theater through a variety of drama games and exercises. They will practice techniques used by professional comedians, improv troupes, actors, and public speakers of all kinds. Build confidence in your art as well as your social presence. So bring your imaginations and your funny bones for a fantastic chance to listen, learn and laugh!

Technical Theater

Ever wonder how the magic is made? This tech theater course introduces students to the many components that make up the beautiful productions put up on stage. From lighting, sound, sets, props, and costumes, students will learn the fundamentals of all things technical while also getting hands-on experience creating aspects of the productions happening at camp.

Acting the Song

Discover your voice! This camp will work with students on their ability to break down a song, how to pick appropriate songs, and how to make a song their own. We will work on how to apply the fundamentals of acting and song analysis to the real time performance both on stage and in an audition. The class will culminate with kids performing a Master Class for each other and each will leave with a set of audition songs they can be confident in and proud of.

Performance Art & Tech Composition

Are you an innovator? Bring your creativity and build a performance piece of your own design using the mini circuit board, the Makey Makey. We will utilize movement and acting skills while writing a story to be performed at the end of the week. We can control the sounds and lights in real-time by making closed circuits while we move on stage!

Schedule Budding Artists

Class starts at 9:00 am and ends at 3:00 pm.

Campers will have short breaks throughout the day and will have a full lunch break from 11:35 am to 12:25 pm. They should bring a bagged lunch and drink each day. We will also be eating outside when possible, so your child may wish to bring a towel to sit on. Refrigeration will not be available, so pack lunches accordingly. Greenwich Academy is a nut-free school, so please do not pack any items that contain nuts. Glass bottles are discouraged.
