This course will help you improve as a writer and a reader as it focuses on the theme of education. For example, we will explore what it means to enter into the culture of college, what have been the historical purposes of education for different populations in the US, and what you want to do with your education to fulfill your own personal and career goals. As we explore this theme, you will also learn the basic building blocks of effective writing which include such things as brainstorming topics, developing ideas, organizing ideas, revision, and editing/ grammar. This course will also help you become a more critical reader by having you read, summarize, and respond to various types of texts. This Learning Community combines ENGL 081 Fundamentals of Written Communication and READ 094 Reading Improvement for 10 credits.
