In the late 1800’s and early 1900's the conditions in Eastern Europe led to a massive influx of predominantly Jewish immigrants from Europe's eastern fringe. The Jewish refugees entered the U.S. through Ellis Island and tended to settle in large, crowded cities like New York. The Jewish immigrants had to make drastic adjustments to their centuries old cultural values. Through this presentation, we will gain insight into both the shared European immigrant experience and the specific Jewish experience, and their challenges of transition into the American mainstream.
