hoopla Announces Graphic Novels

1000 Books Before Kindergarten

GHPLD is excited to announce that hoopla will be launching a variety of different eBooks, comics, and graphic novels! Cardholders will have instant access to our complete catalog of eBooks, comics, and graphic novels that can be borrowed with no holds or waiting! Comic books and graphic novels can now be enjoyed digitally, with the new Action View panel viewer feature of the hoopla eReader. Readers can go from a full-page view to a panel-by-panel view, for an immersive comic book experience. Also, readers will continue to experience the same ease of use when borrowing eBooks, comics, and graphic novels as they currently enjoy with videos, audiobooks, and music albums on hoopla. This service is free to GHPLD cardholders! To get started, go to the Library’s website at greenhillslibrary.org.

We challenge you to read 1000 books to your child before he or she enters kindergarten, because we believe that sharing books early in a child’s life is vital to developing a strong vocabulary and increasing school readiness. But more importantly, we believe that sharing books every day creates positive reading experiences and fosters a love for reading. Take on the challenge and sign up your 0–5 year old child at the Youth Services Desk at the Green Hills Public Library District. You will receive a reading log. Read together and mark off every book that’s read to your child, whether it’s read by you, by an older sibling, or even at Story Time! Every time you complete a 100 book reading log, return it to the Library. Your child will get a sticker, and you’ll get a new reading log. When your child reaches 1000 books, she or he will receive a certificate of completion and a choice of a book to keep.

What’s Our Staff Reading? Off to Be the Wizard “After discovering reality is a computer simulation and that he has the ability to manipulate time and space, Martin Banks travels back to medieval England and poses as a wizard. A little bit Matrix and a little bit Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court. With enjoyable characters and a good sense of geeky humor, Off to Be the Wizard by Scott Meyer is a fun and whimsical comedic sci-fi/fantasy.”
