WELCOME GreenHill comes out of the gates in 2020 with exciting new initiatives. For the first time in nearly 30 years, GreenHill shines a light exclusively on women in our North Carolina Abstract Women Painters exhibition. We’re thrilled to show the contributions of five outstanding women and excited to offer high-level professional exposure through our programming. Susan Fisher Sterling, Director of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC, lectures at GreenHill in March, and Valerie Hillings, North Carolina Museum of Art’s Director, visits us in April. New partners are also enabling us to grow our impact as champions for the artists in our state, notably, the Founding Members of GreenHill’s Women’s Gateway Circle, led by Sue W. Cole and Jackie Wieland, iHeartRadio, and Kara Cox Interiors. PRESENCE – A Figurative Art Survey, sponsored by Lincoln Financial Group, presents over twenty statewide artists of two- and threedimensional figurative works. Witness how these artists address the human condition and hear their perspectives in a series of talks. You might also try your own hand in a figure-drawing session, designed for all skill levels. Care to enjoy a special art getaway weekend? Exclusive workshop packages are available now as part of a new collaboration with O’Henry Hotel and Green Valley Grill. Always a favorite with young families, GreenHill’s summer camps are open for registration. Masterpiece Fridays and the Young Artist Kollective await our youngest creators, and wide-ranging workshops, from jewelry-making to tapestry loom weaving, are offered for adults. Talk to us about creating a unique art-making experience for you! Speaking of unique, we love our artist residencies. Stop by the Blue Nook Studio during our dynamic, 10-day, pop-ups with Raman Bhardwaj or Allen Walker. You might also come for the music and stay for the art on First Fridays, which feature free live performances and a cash bar in our gallery. However you choose to engage with us, we welcome your perspectives at GreenHill. If you’re able, reserve May 14 for our most important fundraiser, which we’re introducing as “Gates and Windows”, together with NC Chefs, Joe and Katy Kindred, Nancy and Dennis Quaintance, Print Works Bistro and Proximity Hotel. See our website for further details, and see you soon at GreenHill! Barbara D. Richter | Executive Director + CEO

EXHIBITIONS GreenHill exhibitions advance creative and inclusive thinking by connecting today’s contemporary artists with individuals and communities in unexpected and stimulating ways. Encouraging diversity of thought and approach, GreenHill’s exhibitions range from retrospectives to small and large group shows focused on a theme or medium. GreenHill’s exhibition gallery is a world-class, light-filled space that welcomes all viewers to take time to contemplate, engage, or just be inspired.

ARTISTS All artists exhibited at GreenHill are significantly involved in the North Carolina arts community. Some of the artists we work with are born and raised in North Carolina, while others chose to live, work, or study in our state. Supporting these artists is the core of our mission. We exist to strengthen their careers creatively and financially. We recognize the interdisciplinary nature of contemporary art and advocate to expand support of all artists—dancers, musicians, poets, and more—because we are committed to the idea that a thriving arts community is essential to the well-being of North Carolina’s culture and economy.

POP-UP RESIDENCY GreenHill’s Pop-Up Residency is a 10-day program in which selected North Carolina artists create and showcase their works in the studios. A Pop-Up Residency is perfect for the artist who enjoys interaction with visitors and likes to engage in active conversations about creative practices. Applications are accepted on an on-going basis. A materials stipend of $200 is provided for each selected artist as well as access to some of the resources of the studios.

RAMAN BHARDWAJ FEBRUARY 26 – MARCH 6 In an investigation of the process of losing and finding identity through the American immigrant experience, Bhardwaj will create a large canvas of footprints created by the public as a celebration of the way we all add our footprints to this multicultural country.

ALLEN WALKER MAY 27 – JUNE 5 Allen Walker is fascinated by objects that one would consider trash or useless and turning those items into something that is now viewed as art. Incorporating found object and fabrics, Walker will create an interactive plane in collaboration with the public, allowing for conversations that bear many perspectives.
