Let’s Celebrate this Fall Can you believe we are in the last quarter of the year already? Thank God for living in North Texas — and Grapevine in particular! I was visiting a good friend last month in an extraordinarily beautiful, but challenged area of our country — and was struck by how blessed I felt upon arrival back home to friends and family. As I mentioned, our normal moneymakers have been cancelled up until now — so we are excited to host our first ‘in person’ fundraiser for 2020 — our 41st Annual Golf Tournament, on Monday, October 5 at the Grapevine Municipal Golf Course. I want to thank those that have stepped up to be a part of this event: sponsors, players, volunteers alike — particularly, our title sponsor, Sewell BMW and Sewell Cadillac.

The 2021 Spirit of Grapevine Wine Calendar — which will be ready for purchase in October! (See page 3 of this newsletter for all the details.) This is a great way to celebrate and support our chamber and community, but also to have the chance to win wine from all over the world for the 52 weeks of 2021. Limited calendars will be sold - so you won’t want to miss out! Calendars drawings will be held each week during 2021. Many thanks to our Chamber Board for their ‘can do’ think outside the box mentality in a challenging environment but also to Off the Vine and the CVB Staff in helping us source wines as well as photography depicting scenes from around our beautiful city. As always, it is my honor to serve —

GET YOUR CALENDAR NOW!

If the Board of Directors of the Grapevine Chamber told you that we wanted you to buy the "Spirit of Grapevine" calendar for a mere $100, would you do it? Before you answer that, what if we told you that every person who bought the calendar would then have an opportunity every single week (52 in all) to win a case of wine, with a minimum value of $260? Would that change your mind? How about if several of the cases of wine were valued at over $500, $600 or more? To make up for the loss from the cancellation of most of our fundraising events, your Grapevine Chamber Board of Directors have put together a very unique, fun and beautiful “Spirit of Grapevine” calendar to not only help us keep your membership investment low, but to have 52 weeks of fun along the way! And how might the opportunity happen? Every calendar will have a unique set of three numbers on the back (132, 004, 529, etc. – from 000 up to 999). Every Monday night the Texas Lottery has a pick three drawing at 6:00 p.m. If your calendar has the number drawn on a Monday night, you win the wine that is displayed on that day! If you don’t watch the pick three, don’t worry, the Chamber staff will give you a call Tuesday morning to tell you how to pick up your wine! The wine selections were made very carefully to celebrate the various wine seasons from all over the world. There are wines from France to New

Zealand, South Africa to Texas, Australia to Italy. Throw in some from Washington, Spain, Mexico and Oregon – plus many more and you have 52 different wines that will make you a winner! Another great thought is – Christmas is Coming! What a great gift to buy for your in-laws, neighbors, family and friends. They will think of you for 52 weeks in 2021, especially if they win a case of wine (of course you will have to negotiate if they have to share the wine with you!) The calendars will be delivered this week and are available for sale from the Chamber Board, Staff, some Ambassadors and several other chamber members who have stepped up to lend a hand in supporting the Chamber. If you want to have your friends buy their own, they can call the Chamber Office at 817-481-1522. Special thanks go to the Grapevine CVB, PW McCallum, Ana Erwin, Community Impact News, Kelly Schwartz, Trudy Cresswell, Kevin McNamara, LeAnn Brown and Holly Donnelly with Off the Vine for putting this together! Call or come by the Chamber Office today to purchase your “Spirit of Grapevine” calendar before they are all sold out! First drawing is Monday, January 4th and we look forward to a much bigger, better and brighter 2021! Call us at 817-481-1522, 200 Vine Street, Grapevine, TX 76051 www.GrapevineChamber.org www.grapevinechamber.org OCTOBER 2020 l 3

In Grapevine-Colleyville ISD, our mission is to be the BEST, and we define that as Building Excellent Schools Together. I can think of no better example of our mission in action than how the community came together in March 2020 to support our students and staff while we held school in a whole new way in response to the global health pandemic. Similar to how local businesses had to modify operations, we had to change from teaching students in classrooms, picking up students on the school bus and feeding them a nutritious meal in the cafeteria to learning through a virtual platform and curbside and mobile meal deliveries.

I am so incredibly proud of the work of our students, staff and community during these unprecedented times. Here are a few highlights: -Teachers and counselors reached out to students on an individual basis to maintain those connections and relationships that are necessary to support student progress. -From March to August we served more than 364,790 meals to GCISD families. -Thanks to generous donations from our community, we were able to provide 6,000 free books to students so they would have access to reading materials at home. -We honored our Seniors, Top 20 graduates and retirees with parades, yard signs delivered to their home and in-person socially distant graduations. Now we are underway with the 2020-2021 school year and are supporting students both in-person and remotely. We are getting better each and every day and are committed to our purpose of serving students and providing them with an elite education. We know that none of it would be possible without the outpouring of support from our community. We are so thankful for your continued partnership as we Build Excellent Schools Together.

WOMEN’S DIVISION: Ready, Set, Let’s Go! Tuesday Oct. 13th we are having a FUN Women’s Division – Chili Cook-Off dinner at the Blankenship Business Center from 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM in place of our monthly luncheon. The evening will include our annual Chili Cook-Off and Judy Pie Bingo! Who wouldn’t be excited for pie and Bingo? Judy Balunda from Judy Pies will be our sponsor this month and we thank her for her support. Our Christmas Spirit Program is the next focus for the Women’s Division. We partner with GRACE to identify senior citizens and disabled members of the Grapevine community who need help and support during the holidays. Those identified are interviewed by the Women’s Division members and wish trees for Christmas are created. The Women’s Division, as well as other Grapevine Chamber members are asked to pick up an ornament (or two), and go out and purchase the items listed, wrap them and return them to either the Chamber or REC. Those gifts are then distributed to those in need along with other necessities before Christmas (with those gifts being items of necessity and that provide basic dignity to our neighbors in need such as stamps, batteries, deodorant, etc.). This program was established in 1973 and is at the heart of the Women’s Division’s mission. Thousands of gifts have been delivered to participants since this program’s inception. Due to COVID19 we will not be visiting the senior citizens, but we will be making phone calls to see what they would like for Christmas Wish List this year. But now, more than ever, we hope you plan to ADOPT AN ANGEL this year. This is a wonderful way for families and co-workers to team up with one another by adopting a senior this year. Christmas “wish list” trees are located at both the Grapevine REC, and the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce office. Come early, as Christmas ornaments are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, and are usually “adopted” before the end of the allotted time. Choose an ornament, shop from the wish list, and return the new wrapped gifts to either the Grapevine REC or the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce. Trees will be set out at the REC and Chamber Office on November 20th, 2020. Elves on the Run had to be cancelled due to COVID19. This was another means of raising the funds to help us give back to our elderly population who have limited incomes and do not receive presents at Christmas time. So, keep an eye out for our other fundraising opportunities in the Chamber Newsletter for donations to help our Christmas Spirit Campaign. We appreciate your support during these difficult times.
