Business Matters Mission: The mission of the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce is to promote business that adds value to our community.

Vision: The vision of the Grapevine Chamber is a progressive business organization that brings relevant and essential opportunities for our investors and community to grow and prosper.

Values: Excellence Innovation Integrity & Community

Our Community is Full of Caring First off, hope everyone is staying safe….and six feet apart....for the time being. Wanted to share something my sweet mother (Thank you, Susie Q) sent to me that spoke to my heart:

“Storms do not define you. They reveal who you are.”

families during their time of grief in this unprecedented time in history. This is the first event since the advent of WWII that has affected every single person in our country. I thank God every day that I live in Grapevine and am a part of this community. We are a community that pulls together with love, caring and positivity.

This is what I have always thought about our wonderful City of Grapevine and what makes its businesses and PEOPLE so special. I have heard the media and some folks complaining about how discourteous and rude people are being, however, what I have witnessed here in our community are some of the following examples of caring: • The car dealership that has started a Facebook page sharing community needs and connecting them with people and businesses to help those needs. • Restaurant owners that, although sales are down, are helping to feed first responders and those needing meals

COVID-19 will dissipate, and when it does, it is with this affirmative spirit that we will all pull through this not only together, but intact. I urge you to look for the good around you with a heart full of gratitude for those on the front lines. I am proud to be your 2020 Chamber Chairman – albeit from my home office – and still assisted by

• Churches and businesses that are ordering from our local restaurants to feed our healthcare workers. • Civic organizations and citizens that are ordering or making PPE’s from and for local Grapevine businesses and residents. • Citizens that are making direct donations to our local non-profits to help keep their doors open. • Our last responders, funeral directors, that are working to creatively comfort Follow us on Twitter twitter.com/Grapevinecoc

my Second in Charge, Mr. Big. Please do not hesitate to let me or RaDonna know if we can be of service to you in any way. Yours in handwashing,

Building Excellent Schools In Grapevine-Colleyville ISD, our mission is to be the BEST and we define that as Building Excellent Schools Together. I can think of no better example of our mission in action than how our community has come together over the past few months to support our students, staff and families during this global health pandemic. While our school buildings may be closed, teaching and learning continues online through GCISD Learning@Home and we remain committed to supporting our students and staff during this time.

The support of our community started years before current circumstances, through the passage of bond programs in 2005, 2011 and 2016 as well as through our strategic design work with LEAD 2021 and now into LEAD 2.0. This support has allowed us to be well prepared for our current educational environment. We have an incredible place to live and work and we look forward to our continued efforts in Building Excellent Schools Together.

GCISD is a one-to-one District, meaning that every student has their own device, which allowed us to quickly transition to Learning@ Home. This platform provides daily learning activities for students while providing flexibility based on individual needs of our families. During this time we have also provided thousands of meals to our students who are in the most need and provided Thank you, ongoing technology support through Dr. Ryan, Superintendent GCISD curbside service.

Getting back to work after COVID-19 Every organization is being challenged and stressed by the COVID-19 Pandemic. Many are focused on “what” we should do – running lots of financial scenario planning exercises preparing for the “what if’s”. When do we furlough or fire more people? When do we start bringing back people with dates provided by the Governor for early May, or do you wait? No matter what you decide, what is needed is a comprehensive detailed plan on the “how” you will bring people back to work. A plan focused on Human Physical Safety in the workplace. When you bring your people back to work, your people will need to feel you are doing everything possible to make the workplace physically safe for them. Physical safety in this environment is necessary for people to feel psychologically safe. You have to do everything you can do to mitigate fear and anxiety about physical safety. COVID-19 raises the following questions, many based on the requirements put in place by the Governor and other officials: • How will you physically redesign your work environment to minimize the entry of and the transmission of the virus in your workplace? • What daily processes/practices will you have to put in place to operationalize that minimization? • How will you protect your employees who will be at higher risk because of their age or due to underlying conditions? You will need to bring people back to a new and different physical place to work. A workplace that is redesigned to mitigate the bringing of the virus into the workplace and to mitigate the transference of the virus in the workplace considering the fact that the virus can be transmitted asymptomatically. Here are some things to consider: • Will you test daily every person for COVID-19 symptoms as they enter the workplace— every employee’s and visitor’s temperature—and have them fill out and sign a COVID-19 symptom’s form before they enter the workplace? • Will you stagger entrances, departures, breaktimes, lunch activities, etc., to optimize social distancing along with limiting the number of people allowed at any one time in meetings, work areas, elevators, bathrooms, etc.?

• Will you integrate virtual meetings in the workplace during the day to limit human face-to-face work? • Will you enforce social distancing in parking lots, company transportation, hallways, bathrooms, and throughout the workplace? • Will you put in place procedures for reporting and dealing with viral symptoms noticed by employees at work? • Will you allow visitors to enter the workplace and under what pre-testing and conditions? • Will you allow employees to visit clients or third parties physically and if so, under what conditions? • Will coming into the workplace be mandatory or will it be on a voluntary basis since some companies have workforces now working remotely and are able to do that without much disruption to their business? • Will you put in place protocols regarding: daily application of disinfectants; hand washings; onsite individual medical screening; use of protective equipment (gloves, masks, etc.); mandatory delineated social distancing; limiting hallway traffic at any one time; limiting the number of employees in break rooms, lunch rooms, etc.? • How will you handle non-compliance issues and a worst-case scenario? What will you do if an employee reports symptoms or is running a slight temperature when tested at the company entrance? If your daughter, son, spouse or significant other wanted to come work in your organization, what would you do to make it physically safe for her or him? Is that the mindset you need to adopt as you consider the “when” and the “how” you will bring your employees back to work? Physical safety at work will be a big issue for every organization. It is a complex and a serious issue that will require you to prioritize values and to put in place a comprehensive set of processes designed to substantially mitigate the entrance of and the transmission of COVID-19 in their workplace. Now is the time to start thinking about, planning for an begin implementing your new business models as we start to see the opportunity to re-open Texas!

How is Grapevine’s Count Going? The U.S. Census Bureau has invited households across the country to participate in the 2020 Census. At the end of April, Grapevine had a response rate of 59.9% while the state of Texas had a response rate of 48.9%. Be sure you and your family are counted today! We are in this together for the future of Grapevine & Texas. Check out the Response Rates Map at: 2020CENSUS.GOV/ RESPONSERATES to get daily updates. The 2020 Census counts every person living in the United States, as of April 1. The count is mandated by the Constitution every 10 years, and the results help to Shape Your Future in a variety of ways – from determining the number of seats each state gets in the House of Representatives to informing decisions about how hundreds of billions of dollars are allocated each year to local communities for vital services like schools, healthcare, and emergency response. Think of your morning commute: Census results influence highway planning and construction, as well as grants for buses, subways, and other public transit systems. During the 2020 Census, the Census Bureau will never ask you for: your social security number, money or donations, anything on behalf of a political party, or your bank or credit card account numbers. Make sure you and your family are counted!

Our May 12th Luncheon & More! It’s been one month since COVID-19 became a household word. Sadly, since that time, we’ve all borne witness to how this insidious virus is impacting our families, our community and our very way of life. What we’re facing is daunting, but I am heartened by the moments of triumph in everyday acts of courage, humanity and love. Although these are trying times for us all, I remain positive that our community will thrive once again. We are very optimistic that “The 25th Anniversary of The Great Taste of Grapevine” will be an event where we can gather again with our friends and enjoy the finest feast in Grapevine. The new date is Thursday July 23rd – 5:30-8:30P at the Hilton DFW Lakes Conference Center – near Grapevine Mills Mall. If you haven’t been before then put it on your calendar if you love to eat fabulous food and enjoy a glass of wine or beer! This event is one of our money makers to give back to the community. As a non-profit we raise money to give free school supplies to the under privileged children in GCISD. We want them to start school with the basic supplies and not feel left out. Main Street Fest is another FUN event we participate in. The new dates are June 26-28. We will man the beer booths on Friday June 26th so members please sign up online to work 2-3 hours during the day at one of the 4 booths. This is another one of the fundraisers for the Women’s Division. May Luncheon – Tuesday May 12th from 11:45AM – 1:00 PM. We will be holding a ZOOM meeting courtesy of Spectrum. All women are encouraged to buy a “take-out” lunch from a local restaurant to help them out during this difficult hardship. Be ready to have a chat with your friends from 11:45AM – 12:00PM. The meeting will begin at Noon with our wonderful sponsors – Stephens Painting and Judy Pie telling us about their fabulous businesses. Our speaker will be Sarah Bell – Breakthrough Coaching – Wellbeing Coach for Women for 15 minutes and wrap it up with chat time from 12:3012:45PM. We will have a prize for #70 who joins the meeting! Along with some other door prizes. Check your email from Sharon for the link and further information. We miss seeing all of your smiling faces so show up for ZOOM! The Women’s Division made a $500 donation to GRACE so they can purchase food on Amazon to be delivered to their warehouse. They have additional people signing up during COVID19 who need their help and food is very scare from their vendors.

CYBERSECURITY TIPS FOR WORKING REMOTELY

DO use a secure connection to ensure end-to-end encryption of data in transit. This can be a VPN to the office or from home to a security filtering company that will verify web connection links for safety. DON’T use the computer in an accessible place in the house where others may see what is on the screen. If you have to use your kitchen table turn everything so your family can’t see your screen. DON’T access critical medical or business systems from computers that your family shares and may already be compromised. If a hacker has installed a key-logging system on your unsecure family computer, they can get the password to your most sensitive business systems. Use a business system or have your IT department or vendor inspect your home computer before use. DON’T print documents unless you can immediately secure them from unauthorized viewers. Remember, if you didn’t print it you wouldn’t have to worry about it.

5 6

7

8

DON’T throw away sensitive or regulated printed business documents. Shred them. DON’T have business phone calls to discuss patients, clients, or workforce members where anyone else can hear the confidential information. DON’T fall for email scams asking for money transfers, sensitive information, gift card purchases, or payroll direct deposit redirections without TALKING to the person making the request to verify it. DO log off if you have to walk away, even for a minute, which may turn into 10 or 20.

Visit our COVID-19 Forum for more information on working through the coronavirus pandemic.
