Fees, Financial Support and Information How can I find out more about the course and venue? Visit our website at www.aspiresussex.org.uk or ring 0345 6 01 01 61 for information and advice, to request course information and/or venue information. What do the costs shown in the brochure include? The costs shown include tuition fees, exam entry fees and some additional costs. Students will be expected to provide books or materials where appropriate. What will I receive when I enrol? A receipt, Welcome Handbook, venue map (if requested) and course information will be posted or emailed to you when you enrol. The Welcome Handbook contains terms and conditions and useful information and is also available from any of our administrative centres or on the website. Do I have to pay all the fees at once? Students must agree to pay the full costs of the course but, for courses longer than 10 weeks and costing more than £100, it is possible that payments can be spread over a fixed period of time by direct debit instalments. Please ask for details. Can I get a refund? As many enrolments are made by phone, post or online, our refund policy meets the requirements of the Consumer Contracts Regulations. Students have the right to cancel their enrolment within fourteen working days of receiving confirmation, in which case a full refund will be made. If the course starts within that fourteen day period, the right to cancel applies up to the day the course starts. Refunds can also be issued outside the fourteen day period if a written request is received more than four weeks before the start of the course. An administrative charge of £12 will be deducted from the refund. After that time, only requests for refunds as a result of your ill health will be considered. These refunds will be calculated from the date your request is received by the finance team. This must be supported by a certificate from your doctor and an administrative charge of £12 will be deducted from the refund. Cancellation and refund requests must be made by email to enquiries@aspiresussex.org.uk or letter to The Finance Team, Bognor Regis Adult Education Centre, Westloats Lane, Bognor Regis PO21 5LH. What happens if there are changes to my course? Although courses usually run as advertised, we reserve the right to change or cancel courses as necessary. If occasional sessions have to be postponed due to circumstances beyond our control, alternative dates will be arranged and no refunds granted. We do not grant refunds on the grounds of a change of tutor or venue. If it becomes necessary for us to close or cancel a course, refunds will be made with no administrative fee deducted. Will I be accepted on to any course I choose? We reserve the right not to accept an application for enrolment. Students must be 19 years of age or over to enrol. Enrolment on some courses is by assessment only. You will be advised if this applies to your course. 4

Don’t forget to ask us about fees and financial support

What do I do if I need extra support to access a course? Talk to us about your needs when you enrol or at any stage during the course and we will do our best to help. Learner Support funding may be available to help some students who may be discouraged from joining a course for financial reasons. Please ring 0345 6 01 01 61 or ask for details. What types of courses are there and what will I have to pay? Different types of courses are subsidised by government funding in various ways and by different amounts. Acceptance on to any course is subject to an individual being eligible for government funding. Aspire Sussex reserves the right to increase fees in the future in line with the government’s funding authorities’ guidance. Community Learning Courses: For your enjoyment and personal development (including leisure courses). Students on a means tested benefit will be entitled to a 70% discount on tuition fees on production of proof of benefit entitlement. Students over 65 and not on a means tested benefit will be entitled to a 10% discount on tuition fees. Means tested benefits are Jobseeker’s Allowance/Council Tax Benefit/Housing Benefit/Pension Guarantee Credit/Income Support/Working Tax Credits (if household income on the award notice is below £25,000)/Employment and Support Allowance (work related activity group/Support Group – income related) or Universal Credit.

CP

Community Plus courses: these courses are planned to meet the needs of particular groups and individuals within the the community and as they are subsidised at a higher rate fee levels are lower. There are no further discounts on these courses.

Free English and Maths English and Maths courses (including GCSEs, for those who do not already hold a GCSE A*-C) are free to most students aged 16+ subject to meeting funding eligibility. Some additional course costs may be applicable.

At Aspire Sussex we try to ensure that finance isn’t a barrier to participating in our Adult Education courses. If you are unemployed or are looking to gain a qualification please contact our Student Support team on 0345 6 01 01 61 who will be happy to provide details on the funding support available.

LOAN

Are you looking to study a Level 3 and above qualification and are aged 19 or over? If the answer is yes you may be entitled to a loan for your learning. This means that you will no longer have to pay for your course up front and will not need to pay anything until you are earning £21,000 and over per year. These loans will give financial support for tuition fees charged for these courses and are administered through the Student Loan Company. For more information, please contact us on 01444 810710 or visit www.nationalcareerservice.direct.gov.uk/advancedlearningloans

Arts and Crafts “Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.” Andy Warhol Everyone enjoys creating something that’s interesting and pleasing to the eye, but not everyone believes they can produce art or follow in the footsteps of traditional crafts. If you want to find your inner artist, our Arts and Crafts courses are taught by expert and enthusiastic tutors who will help you achieve your individual goal. We believe anyone can learn to draw and paint or create a beautiful artefact or design.

WHY NOT TRY... • Watercolour • Woodcarving • Mixed Media • Mosaics • Dressmaking • Patchwork • Plus lots more

The work produced by our arts and crafts students reflects the quality of teaching, enthusiasm and skill students develop on these courses. We’ve supported students to exhibit work in Burgess Hill and Worthing over the past year with some great results.

WOULD YOU LIKE MORE INFORMATION ON THE COURSES THAT INTEREST YOU? Making a decision about what course is best for you is an important one and one we want to support you to make so you get the most from your learning experience with us. All courses have a course information sheet with detailed information on the courses that interest you. To view this information, please visit www.aspiresussex.org.uk and search for any course or contact our Student Support team on 0345 6 01 01 61. 6

“It’s important to keep your mind active as you get older and woodcarving really helps me with this. It stops me feeling isolated and it’s great to have a tutor who is so experienced and willing to share that experience with other people. CHANGE YOUR STORY LIKE LILY “I started on an ECDL course on advice from a Job Centre Plus advisor as a way of retraining, as I am disabled and claim Employment Support Allowance. My previous jobs were physical which I am not able to do anymore. When I started the course I knew very little about computers and had never done any courses before. In fact I didn’t have any formal qualifications or certificates. That is until; with the help and patience of my tutor Kimberley and encouragement from Aspire staff members I passed level 1 and 2 ECDL. This has given me confidence to now start doing other courses, I have enrolled for functional skills Maths and I am also thinking about Psychology and Counselling.”

Beginners Our beginners’ courses are suitable for those students with no or very little knowledge. Our expert tutors will be on hand to help you learn and build confidence to complete a range of basic computer tasks such as using a mouse and keyboard, finding information on the internet, saving documents properly plus lots more! After leaving school I took time to try and find the right career and ended up in a IT position that just paid the bills but brought me no enjoyment. I had been nervous about approaching a new career at 43 but the Aspire team have made me feel more than welcome and I am able to say that being on this course, learning and sharing my experience, has provided me with the skills to become a better Teaching Assistant, opening up a new career that has now become a matter of heart from which I get great joy.”
