VISUAL ARTS June 13th, 23rd & 30th, 2012 Local and regional presenters will offer a diverse set of options in the disciplines of Dance, Drama, Music &Visual Arts. 9 dynamic, fun and educational workshops will provide training, knowledge and networking for those working in the creative sector such as practicing artists, arts educators and administrators. In addition, special sessions are planned that are suitable for students at the high school and college levels. All workshops require registration. The Art of Tai Chi Instructor : Lynn Johnson Saturday, June 16th Loggia

2 to 4 pm $5 – limited to 8 students

DANCE

Participants have the opportunity to experience the art of movement guided by the flow of their unique energy. The class is a place to begin a journey of self-awareness through graceful, timeless movement. This workshop is open to Adults 18+.

Ballet Choreography Instructor : Rachel Gustafson Saturday, June 30th Dance Studio

12 to 2 pm $15 – limited to 20 students

This workshop is for aspiring choreographers. The focus will be the steps and elements required to design a performance piece in the ballet style. This workshop assumes participants are familiar with an intermediate level of contemporary ballet. This workshop is open to Adults 18+.

Performing Arts for Educators working with Special Needs Students Instructor : Deborah Skinner Academy of Performing Arts/Children’s Dance Theatre Saturday, June 30th ETK Grand Theatre

10 am to 2 pm $10 – limited to 12 students

Ms. Skinner is a acclaimed dance professional and arts education specialist. This special workshop is provided by the Academy of Performing Arts and offered in conjunction with a special needs youth camp. Designed for educators, this workshop will provide valuable information and real experience on the final day of the youth camp. Please note that interaction during the scheduled hours may vary. This workshop is open to Adult Educators 18+.

Playwriting Instructor : Vanessa Espino Saturday, June 23rd Children’s Studio

10 am to 2 pm $10 – limited to 25 students

DRAMA

This workshop will focus on the creative process using journaling, automatic writing, list-making and project-mapping. There will be in-class exercises designed to explore character, tone, voice, structure, memory, place and time. Some students will be asked to share work for feedback. This workshop is open to Adults 18+.

Make-up Techniques for Performance Instructor :Vanessa Espino Saturday, June 30th Theatre Dressing Rooms

10 am to 2 pm $30 – limited to 14 students

Learn the basic techniques for the design and application of make-up for the stage. In the dressing rooms of the theatres, students will start with proper base application and continue with learning how to apply old age makeup, as well as scars. Students will receive, and keep, a starter make-up kit as part of the fee for this workshop. This workshop is suitable for Teens & Adults.

Voice Technique Anyone Can Sing, Really! Instructor : Dr. Magen Solomon Artist Director of San Francisco Choral Artists & Stockton Chorale

A comprehensive workshop for beginning singers. Dr. Solomon will present an introduction to basic, healthy singing technique,warm-up exercises, breathing, tone production, projection, expression and more! Exercises and musical materials will be provided. Participants may opt to bring a prepared song and receive suggestions for improving their performance. This workshop is open for Teens & Adults.

Fused Glass – Strip Construction Instructor : Johnathan Schmuck Saturday, June 16th Ceramics Studio

1 to 4 pm $35 – limited to 12 students

This workshop presents the methods for uniform strip cutting using a variety of tools and processes that ensure success. This technique, where designs are built up by placing narrow glass strips on edge, is an amazing process for arranging designs in an even and orderly manner and of building large color fields with a lot of subtlety and nuance. We will discuss block patterns,“window” making, working with stripes, geometrics, and how to take this process even further. This workshop is open to Adults 18+.

Legal Issues & Rights for Californian Artists Instructor : Attorney Stephen Davis Davis & Leonard, LLP – California Lawyers for the Arts Saturday, June 23rd Visual Arts 01

12 to 2 pm FREE – limited to 25 students

This workshop is designed to provide emerging and established artists with a variety of practical knowledge. Mr. Davis will offer a presentation on important legal issues including moral rights,Visual Artists Rights Act, California Resale Royalties and disclosure agreements. This workshop is open to Adults 18+.

Ceramics: Sculpting the Human Head Instructor : Mark Knize Saturday, June 30th Ceramics Studio & Loggia

10 am to 4 pm (includes 12 – 12:45 pm lunch break) $20 – limited to 12 students

Mr. Knize is a celebrated sculptor and woodturner from Tracy, CA. In this workshop, Mark will lead the class through the anatomical sculpting of the human head. Clay and tools will be provided. This workshop is open to Teens 16+ and Adults.
