Grampari, an initiative of IofC India (in.iofc.org), was established to serve and empower rural communities in India.

WHAT WE DO Grampari's mission is to build capacity of rural society through thoughtful, community-led programmes in livelihoods, empowerment, health & environment, and local governance. Programme Highlight HOW WE WORK We work in a participatory manner with our rural constituents. In other words, we facilitate programmes which are designed, implemented and maintained by the community. In this way project ownership is created at the grassroots level and thus programmes are more sustainable in the long term due to the vested interest of the community. Our focus is on development – not charity. WHO WE ARE We are people from all segments of society, including engineers, entrepreneurs, scientists and farmers. But it is not about who we are – it is about what we believe. We endeavor to 'be the change we want to see in the world' and to inspire others to become agents of change in this same spirit. WHY WE DO IT We envision a just and sustainable society for everyone. To us, that means that everyone has a voice and a place in the India of the 21st century. We think that economic growth must be inclusive and that everyone should have access to opportunity.

Our School Hand Washing Programme promotes hand washing with soap - a simple act that saves lives. We teach germ transfer through games, proper hand washing techniques and construction of simple devices like the tippy-tap, a low cost device that saves water and is hands free to prevent transmission of disease.

OUR PROGRAMMES Highlights from our Livelihoods Programme include our solar lantern assembly and sewing courses. In partnership with the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC), the solar lantern course provides self-employment opportunities for village youth by teaching both technical and entrepreneurship skills. The sewing certification class for women qualifies them for a government subsidized sewing machine upon completion. The class promotes both income generation as well as village unity – community building efforts by Grampari have resulted in high caste and low caste women overcoming their differences and attending the classes together. Our Health & Sarpanch Training Environment Programme includes a school campaign that promotes hand washing with soap- a low cost, high impact intervention that has the potential to save over 40% of child deaths. Our environment programmes also include provision of rural drinking water, such as development and protection of natural springs as sources of safe water, and ground water recharge demonstrations. Our Local Governance programme promotes one of the most sustainable forms of development- self-governance. Grampari facilitates leadership development through trainings in Panchayat Raj institutions, values trainings and community building. At our last training, sarpanches from over 35 villages attended and pledged to developing their village through committed, ethical leadership. HOW WE ARE FUNDED Most of our funding comes from individuals like you who believe in our work and make personal contributions. We also receive limited support from foundations and corporates. Newly elected women sarpanchs attending a meeting at Grampari. This programme strengthens Panchayati Raj institutions and supports our women leaders in their journeys of service.
