THE GROUP

MEST GROUP comprises three shipyards and a factory producing equipment in stainless steel for the shing industry.

Founded in 1936 the shipyard has grown over the years to become a major player in the Faroese business community - today under the name MEST. Beside the principal shipyard business of newbuilding, conversion and repair, MEST is engaged in a number of landbased activities. Our diverse workforce of 250 employees are specialized in mechanics, steel, electricity, timber and paint. Other parts of MEST’s activities include a comprehensive spares department, a number of general agencies as well as rental of tugboats and cranes. In preparation for future petroleum exploration on the Faroe Shelf, MEST has established a subsidiary, PAM Offshore Service. The company employes personnel with extensive offshore related experience as electricians, certified welders, as well as engineers . This diversity gives MEST a headstart when meeting the demands of its customers.

YOUR PARTNER IN THE NORTH ATLANTIC

The highly skilled workforce of the technical department is responsible for the planning and execution of the daily work. The department employs a wide range of special equipment, such as tools for overhauling engines, laser repair tools and equipment for measuring the bollard pull of ships. Other tasks cover stability and tonnage calculations and noise measurements. The technical department also provides consulting services in connection with conversions and purchase of vessles abroad. The department holds an extensive database of all vessels which have been serviced at MEST, providing easy access to information regarding any previous work and equipment installed on each individual vessel.

RISING TO NEW CHALLENGES

A reliable and professional business partner now and in the future.

MEST has time and time again demonstrated its ability to meet new challenges by continuously adapting to change. Between them the yards have delivered 100 vessels both to the local and the international markets. Vessels have been built for customers in Denmark, the Shetland Islands, Greenland and even Thailand. The Faroe Islands have in recent years seen a decrease in ship building. Repair, conversions, maintenance and landbased activities currently dominate the majority of the work. Landbased activities include the construction of ferry berths, fish farming equipment and tanks.
